Access to Music’s HNC/D music courses aim to develop high-level specialist,
technical knowledge and skills which are directly relevant to professional
life in the music sector. One-year HNCs lead to BTEC Level 4 qualifications,
offering progression to one-year HNDs accredited at Level 5. These courses
can be studied for a fraction of the tuition cost of a full degree.

courses content
Digital Music
Developing professional-level skills in creating, composing and arranging
music using Digital Audio Workstations and studios. Repertoire will be
generated for a variety of projects from dance music and remixes, through
to music for media applications such as adverts, film and games. Unit
content includes Sequencing and Recording, Harmony for Composition
and Arrangement, Modern Composition, Composing for Film and
Television, Orchestration and Instrumentation, Writing to Briefs etc.
Music Technology
This course develops high-level skills for anyone wanting to go into
professional sound engineering and production work in both live
and studio environments. With a buoyant live music sector, sound
engineering is a practical career choice for anyone interested in the
science of sound and its manipulation and application. Units include
Acoustics, Sound Creation and Manipulation, Sequencing and Recording,
Applied Production Techniques, Audio Mastering and Post Production,
Studio Management, Live Sound System Operations, Sound System
Maintenance etc.

entry requirements
• At least 18 years of age on 31 December on the year of entry.
• Candidates will normally be required to achieve 200 UCAS tariff points
or a Rockschool Level 3 Music Practitioner qualification, or a National
Diploma in a music-related subject.
• 4 passes (A*-C) at GCSE including Maths and English Language.
• Applicants with non-standard qualifications and/or experience are
encouraged to apply and will be considered if they can demonstrate
appropriate ability through their interview.
• You are required to submit an online application form, together with an
online link to a portfolio of work or experience in music related events.
Successful applicants will be invited for interview

next steps
HNCs can offer progression to HNDs, while HNDs can provide
access to the third year of degree courses, if admissions criteria
are met. The courses can also provide progression into the music
industry and wider creative sector.
