HISTORY OF
WAVENY HOUSE
Built in 1912 as a summer home for one of the
Texaco founders, Lewis Lapham, Waveny House
consists of a Tudor style brick mansion designed
by architect William Tubby surrounded by 300
acres of woods, fields, ponds and trails. Landscape design for the original residence was by
Frederick Law Olmsted, Jr.. Waveny Park is
currently owned by the town of New Canaan and
is a popular site for cultural and social events,
weddings, and recreation.

CONSERVANCY FOCUS
The Conservancy’s focus is on restoring
and enhancing the 130 acres of open
space surrounding Waveny House.
The current areas of focus are:
•Restoration of the Pond
•Beautification of the entryway leading
from South Avenue to Waveny House
•Restoration of the formal gardens in
collaboration with the Garden Club
•Renovation of the Cornfields
•Woodlands, forests and trails
