January – March workshop list OliVen – Patchwork and felting Introduction to free machine quilting Thu 7/1 at 10-1 PM, Tue 26/1 at 10-1 PM, Tue 2/2 at 10-1 PM, Thu 17/3 at 10-1 PM Are you frightened about free-machine quilting? This is your chance to face your fear and build your confidence with an experienced tutor. This is ongoing class, up to 4 different lessons, come to one or all four. Wednesday 6th January at 10-3 PM OR Wednesday 2nd March at 10-3 PM Do you know how to use all the functions on your machine? Does your machine have features you’re afraid to use? Come and spend full day making samples and become friend with your machine. Bringing your own sewing machine is essential. Tutor: Vendulka Battais Beginners Pri ce £30 Binding Techniques Saturday 16th January at 10-3 PM OR Friday 18th March at 10-3 PM “Should I use a single or a double binding?” Why not lift the binding with a contrast coloured piping? What if the quilt is double sided, or it has round or scalloped edges?? And most importantly: how do I do the mitred corners?? If you are confused now, by the end of this class you will know it all! Wednesday 3rd February at 10-4 PM Have you made your quilt top but now it’s sitting in a drawer because you’re afraid of the next steps? Three ways of holding the layers of quilt together, quilting using only straight stitches, and finishing the edges with neat binding – that’s what we will cover in this busy day. You will have to bring your finished quilt top. This one will teach you how to master points in a pinwheel and one of the many ways how to appliqué. One and a half day. Chevrons, Stars and Cut-up nine patch are the three designs you can choose from on this day. Tutor: Gillian Strange Beginners Price £35 Sizzix day – die cutting machine Tuesday 12th January at 10-4 PM Did you ever wondered how the die-cutting machine works to save your time? Using the Sizzix cutter you will cut out triangles or quarter circles and learn how to tackle curve piecing or points on the triangles. Each project can be turned into runner or a cot quilt. Tutor: Gillian Strange Beginners Price £35 Dahlia – table centre piece Wednesdays 24th February AND 9th March at 10-3 PM This beautiful table centre piece has lots of coloured variants and will be great decoration to any table in your garden or sitting room. Or you can use it as a centre in your next quilt. First day we design it and start quilting using machine Trapunto for raised effects. Second day we add piped binding and paint it. Paints for you to take home included in the price. Using a resist to make a seamless pocket of felt which can be shaped into a beautiful bowl or small bag of your own choosing. Tutor: Clare Kiely Confident Beginners/Intermediate Price £35 General felting session Saturday 27th February at 10:30 -3:30 PM General session where Clare will teach you the techniques you like, from basic felt pictures, to small 3D objects to bags, slippers or hats. Using a variety of different materials, you will produce samples of all these types of felt as well as explore how to use them further and create a neck warmer to take home.
