The rhythm of life, even for a master drummer, is at the same moment disrupted and
harmonized by the love, passion, jealousy, hate and spite of those around. Unni,
unequaled in the art of playing the Chenda, and Nalini, peerless in Mohiniyattam, are
drawn to each other by an affection that transcends the devotion to their arts and the love
for each other. The pulse of their passion cannot hold up against the tumults of Unni’s life.
A brother and a father figure, whose love sours to jealousy and hate, a wife who despises
his drumming and a mother from whom the truth about his birth is not forthcoming all
hasten the tempo of a mental imbalance rooted in Unni’s childhood to an inevitable dark
end.

Anna is a respectable person because of whose efforts Alkud is a peaceful village. He is
called for, as a witness to a survey being conducted by a Government agency. Anna’s
guessing about the survey transforms in to fear of acquisition of land, which compels him to
fence his piece of land. This simple act becomes the genesis of a rumour of a proposed
industrial zone at Alkud. Arunbhau (Sarpanch), propagates the news to MLA Waghmare. He
plans to declare the news officially. This, he thinks, will fetch him great political mileage.
The news leaks to Walzade (Minister of Industry). Soon a game of political one-upmanship,
becomes fodder for further rumour. Waghmare starts buying land in Alkud. The non-fertile
and barren land turns to gold. This wave disturbs the harmony of the village. By the time
this political game ends, the village has lost its human relationship pattern and simplicity of
being.
Director’s Biography:
Tanaji M. Ghadge was passionate about films since his school days. He
used to often bunk classes to watch movies. He then decided to turn
his passion into a career. He left for Mumbai from his village
Mundevadi. Ultimately his passion brought him to F.C. Mehra’s Eagle
Films in 1991. He has since worked as an assistant director to Umesh
Mehra and Rajeev Mehra for 5 years. Then he worked with renowned
editor Afaque Hussain till 2000. After 10 years of gaining experience
he got his first soap ‘Ghar-Kul’ as an independent director. He then
went on to work on a number of serials including ‘Pankhanchi Sawli’,
‘Natyaparv’, ‘Divasendivas’, ‘Asmita’, ‘Anupama, ‘Baap Re Baap’
amongst others. His passion for cinema grew further and soon he
directed his first feature film “Barad” a barren land of fertile dreams.

The film is about two pairs of identical twins separated at birth and how their lives go
haywire when they meet in adulthood. Raj Tilak and his wife are on a trip with their twin
sons, both of whom they call Ashok. Since they look the same, they should be called the
same, is Tilak's reasoning. As fate would have it, they adopt another set of twins, both of
whom they call Bahadur. An unfortunate accident then divides the family, leaving both
parents with one child out of each pair of twins. A few years later, Ashok is married to
Sudha and Bahadur is married to Prema. They all stay together with Sudha's younger sister
Tanu. Into their lives enter the other Ashok, a detective novel aficionado, and Bahadur, a
bhaang lover. Now there are two Ashoks and two Bahadurs in the same city. This is more
than their families, the jeweller, the taxi driver and the inspector can handle.
