JUBILEE OF MERCY
Love and sin. These two seem an odd pairing, a doubtful duo. Yet love and sin are bound together in the
Bible readings today. Great love leads to forgiveness. And forgiveness leads to greater love. Look to King
David who had a husband killed so he could take the wife. Look to the Apostle Paul who was drawn away
from persecuting others by the love of the Son. Look to the unnamed weeping woman who bathed and
anointed feet. Because of sorrow. Because of forgiveness. Because of great love.
• Who has forgiven me? What happened next?
• Who needs my forgiveness?
• And how does my forgiveness mirror God’s forgiveness – of me, of others, and of all?
Text acknowledgement: Eliot Kapitan, Diocese of Springfield in Illinois
A LETTER FROM THE PASTOR
My dear brothers and sisters in our Lord Jesus Christ,
Our annual parish festival is this weekend! Thanks to the Festival Committee for all their advanced planning and hard
work… and thanks also to all the volunteers without whom our festival could not happen! I hope to see everyone there
enjoying the food, the fun and the fellowship! And let’s continue to pray for good weather throughout the weekend.
At the end of today’s gospel is a very telling statement. After describing Jesus’ ministry and journeys, the women disciples,
Mary Magdalene in particular, are portrayed as “many…who provided for them out of their resources.” This is an indication
that Jesus and those accompanying Him (one of whom I believe would have been His mother, Mary) were reliant upon
others for support and sustenance. Some may not think of that – Jesus and His followers as itinerants, depending on the
generosity of others “along the way” for food and shelter. Jesus chose to need others to survive and to accomplish what He
needed to accomplish. Sometimes we may feel independent, and we may even suffer from the desire to not be dependent
upon anyone. We need other people and other people need us! We need their prayers and their love and others need our
prayers and our love. First and foremost, we are dependent upon the Lord. We need His love, His support, and His strength.
We also need others. That is an integral part of what authentic stewardship is all about. We share our gifts, and when they
are combined with the shared gifts of others, our community, our Church, our parish – all are so much more effective!
Today, June 12, at our 12 Noon Mass Fr. Thomas Reagan, ordained just last weekend for the Fathers of Mercy, will
celebrate a Mass of Thanksgiving. To the best of my knowledge (and others whom I have asked who have been here longer
than me!) Fr. Thomas is the first son of our parish to be ordained to the priesthood. Congratulations to him and his family!
Ad multos annos!
Fr. Marc will celebrate a Mass of Thanksgiving next weekend at 12 Noon. Please keep him in your prayers as he discerns
possible entrance into religious life. And as she retires, we will honor Carol Heuser at the weekend Masses on June 25-26,
with a special gathering after the Saturday evening Mass.
Thanks to everyone for your generous response to the Together We Grow campaign. As volunteers continue to reach out to
families, please take the time to respond to their invitations – a friendly voice on the other side of a phone or timely response
to an email means so very much to our dedicated volunteers. This capital campaign is a great opportunity for us to not only
address some current needs but also poise ourselves for a vibrant future as Together We Grow!
And finally, as we approach the fifth annual Fortnight for Freedom, be attentive to all that will be happening here to
commemorate this time of prayer and awareness. Of particular note, we will start the Fortnight for Freedom with Mass next
Tuesday night at 7:30 PM following by all-night Eucharistic adoration. And we are looking forward to our two Thursday
Holy Hours during that time on June 23 and June 30 when we will welcome guest speakers. Plan to join us!
That’s it for now – God bless one and all!

LEARNING ABOUT THE LITURGY: THE ENTRANCE CHANT
Throughout the coming months of Ordinary Time, this column will include some reflections upon the parts of Mass, from
beginning to end.
While many may see this as simply “what we sing while Father walks to the altar”, accompanying the procession is only one
of the functions of this important musical element of the liturgy. The Church teaches: “The purpose of this chant (hymn, or
song) is to open the celebration, foster the unity of those who have been gathered, introduce their thoughts to the mystery of
the liturgical season or festivity, and accompany the procession of the priest and ministers….it helps put the assembly in the
proper frame of mind for listening to the Word of God.” In fact, the Church goes on: “The progression of text and music
must be allowed to play out its course and achieve its purpose musically and poetically. In other words, the hymn should
not be ended indiscriminately at the end of the procession.”
OUTREACH
PREPARING TO SERVE
Learn, Grow, and Serve by Becoming a Stephen Minister
Do you have gifts for caring, encouragement, and listening? If so, please prayerfully consider
becoming a Stephen Minister. St. Maximilian Kolbe Parish will be training another class of
Stephen Ministers in the future. Stephen Ministers provide emotional and spiritual support
and care to people who are going through a difficult time, such as divorce, grief,
hospitalization, unemployment, terminal illness, relocation, chronic illness, or loneliness. To
find out more about becoming a Stephen Minister or how you or someone you know could be
matched with a Stephen Minister, talk with one of our Stephen Ministry Leaders
confidentially: Please contact Holly Moran through our Parish office 513-777-4322 or email
at StephenMinistry@saint-max.org.
“ As each one has received a gift, use it to serve one another as good stewards of God’s varied grace.” 1 Peter 4:10
COMPANIONS ON A JOURNEY GRIEF SUPPORT
We call ourselves Companions on a Journey grief support (COJ), because that is what we are. Each of us
has endured the death of someone we love very dearly. Our crosses in life have been heavy, yet it has
been through our faith in God that we have found each other. Until one experiences the death of a loved
one, a person cannot truly understand our grief world. It's as though we have entered into a different
existence from the one we once knew.
This week please join us for :
COJ Open Grief Support Group - is designed to assist those who have suffered the death of a parent, sibling, close friend or
spouse. This group meets on Tuesday, June 14 in the hospitality room from 7:00-9:00 PM.
Remembrance Mass- Bereaved Families are invited to join us on Saturday, June 18 at 8:30 AM as we remember those
whom have died during the month, light refreshments will be served in the gathering space following Mass. If you or your
family experiences the death of a loved one please contact our parish office so we may remember your loved one at the
Remembrance mass and so that we can keep your family in our prayers.
Please visit www.saint-max.org or www.companionsonajourney.org websites for a complete listing of our adult support
groups. For more information or to register for a specific group call Sheila Munafo-Kanoza at 513-870-9108.
ROSARY FOR LIFE IN SHARONVILLE
Join parishioners from St. Max and other parishes in praying the rosary in front of the abortion clinic in Sharonville at
11250 Lebanon Road, Sharonville OH. St. Max leads the rosary the third Saturday of every month at 9:15 AM. Bring your
families. The abortion clinic is closed on Saturdays and this is a good opportunity to be a witness to the Gospel of Life and
pray for the unborn and the closing of the abortion clinic. For more information, contact Mary Jo Suer at respectlife@saintmax.org.
ST. MAX IS COLLECTING PULL TABS
St. Max is collecting pull tabs to donate to Cincinnati’s Ronald
McDonald House. We’re helping keep families together when it
matters most!! Our goal is to become a member of the Thanks a
Million Club by collecting 1,000 pounds of tabs!! Your support of this
program and the families of critically ill children is greatly appreciated!
There is a marked container behind the desk in the gathering space to
place your tabs. Feel free to take a little tab house for collecting or
stickers to put on your own container at home, they are available
behind the desk as well.

June 12, 2016
EVANGELIZATION & CATECHESIS
THE GOSPEL FOR ALL AGES
In Jesus’ culture, it was very important to practice hospitality. Cultures today have practices of hospitality such as offering a
cup of tea, giving a light kiss on the cheek, or presenting a lei made of fresh flowers. Your family can create its own way to
welcome guests. Include elements of greeting, making the person comfortable, and offering something to eat or drink.
Make sure that each family member has an important part in the method. It will be your special way of showing great love
for others, just like the woman showed great love and hospitality towards Jesus in today’s gospel story.

do you usually handle forgiveness in your relationship? Is one of you the usual initiator? Why? You may need forgiveness

“Thank you very much for your generous contribution to the St. Francis - St. Joseph Catholic Worker House. We house only
sixteen men at a time and operate frugally on a small budget so be assured that your kindness carries much impact and the
donation will be wisely deployed. You have contributed to an operation that really works. Our success rate exceeds 30%
while comparable rehabilitation facilities average less than 10%. We attribute this to our excellent staff of eight, all of whom
were formerly homeless.”
~Sincerely, John Clark, House Manager
