Thrice Milled Flannel
Sheep arrived in Australia with the First Fleet in 1788. Sheep farming
started in the Geelong region in 1835.The first mills started in
Geelong in 1868. For many decades Geelong was known as the wool
centre of the world.
Our thrice milled flannels are a combination of wool from the Geelong
area, in particular, merino wool from the Pyranees Park Farm.
Pyranees Park has had the finest bales in the world consistently for the
last 4 years.
With our special blend of 140’s wool we have made a flannel very wide
in loom, over 2 metres, harking back to the old ways of the Geelong
mills. The cloth is placed into milling and milled a little at a time, then
taken out, gently dried, cut back and then returned to the mill and
milled for the second time then the process is repeated again.
This is the old way, it is hard to do and it is costly to do. However, it is
the nicest result in handle and durability.
