SEASON 2015
REFLECTIONS
EXHIBITIONS
REFLECTIONS FROM THE FIRE
Longboat Key Center for the Arts will be collaborating with
the esteemed Habatat Galleries(MI) to present “Reflections
from the Fire” two extraordinary contemporary glass events.
In the Durante Gallery we will be presenting two dozen artists
representing 13 countries from North America, Europe,
Australia and Asia. Each artist has distinguished themselves
not only in their respective countries but throughout the
world. Every technique in glass will be represented, each
created with the unique vision coupled with consummate
skill. The exhibition provides an instant education into the
world of studio glass and a visual experience that will last
a life time!
Accompanying the Durante Gallery exhibition of international
glass art, we will be hosting the first Contemporary Glass
Auction to occur in Florida! This body of work was again
assembled by Habatat Galleries (MI) and has examples of
earlier work by many of the masters. This too is an international
event and will present historic works in the careers of many
of these noted artists. There will also be many surprises,
famous works that have just recently come on the market,
and special works revealing unique approaches to making
art! A catalogue for this event is available.
From its humble beginnings, in a garage in Toledo in
1962, Studio Glass has become a medium of astounding
versatility. In our Durante Gallery, you will see everything
from large castings to intricate work created over a torch.
Today there are an estimated 15,000 artists working
with glass. This exhibit is juried to reveal the innovators,
visionaries and historic figures in this field. Unique to
many exhibitions of this kind, most of these works will be
available for purchase.
“Vision is a beautiful image involving the introspection
of your past, reflection of your present, and connection
with the future to see things considered impossible as
possible.” –Anuj Somany.
