NEWS + NOTES 2013 ISSUE 2 March - Time for a new Beginning? GreetingsMembers Did you know that on the Roman calendar, the month of March used to be the first month of the year – a time of new beginnings? So, if you missed your opportunity at New Year’s to make a resolution and stick to it, March is here to provide you with another chance! In March, our thoughts generally turn to Spring, but March doesn’t always bring pleasant weather. The Anglo-Saxons called this month Hlyd monath or Stormy month and Hraed monath, meaning Rugged month. Hopefully this March won’t be stormy or rugged and we’ll start to see a little more of the sun! “March winds and April showers bring May flowers.” When you think about it, these sayings are just about as accurate as any weather reports we get today! Here is some weather lore about the month of March. “When March comes in like a lion, it goes out like a lamb.” “As it rains in March so it rains in June.” Did you know? Including lean protein in your breakfast is key and it will keep you feeling full longer. Breakfast on the run? How about an Orange-Berry Smoothie. Place frozen blueberries and raspberries into your blender along with a few pieces of seedless orange – add some plain Greek yogurt for the all important protein and blend away. Craving something more savory? Try an omelet. The protein will keep you feeling full until lunch time and it’s a great way to use up left over veggies. Jazz it up a little with some feta or goat cheese. Do you know about Variety’s Membership Referral Reward Program?
