Mr. Jackson, along with Lead Coordinator L'Tanya Simmons, shared with students preventative ways to make proper decisions concerning conflict resolutions in the streets especially during the upcoming warmer summer months. 3 R&B Superstar ELLE VARNER provides Music Workshop for SSICP Students THURSDAY, APRIL 2nd, 2015 PAGE 2 GRAMMY Winning Star ELLE VARNER provides Music Workshop for SSICP Honor Roll Music Students She discussed the importance of hard work & dedication needed to achieve your dreams in Music/Performing Arts + the process for obtaining a solid music manager. 4 Actress for STARZ TV Series POWER Leslie Lopez SSICP Spanish Workshop WEDNESDAY, APRIL 15th, 2015 Dear Friend/Actress from #1 Hit STARZ Series "POWER" Leslie Lopez provided a SSICP CyberBullying Prevention Workshop for SSICP Students. For Ms. Nancy Diaz's Spanish Class Ms. Lopez provided practice Q&A conversational exercises in Spanish for the Introductory Spanish Students to prep the SSICP students for their upcoming Spanish quiz. Leslie also discussed what it's like to work with Executive Producer of "POWER" Curtis “50 CENT” Jackson. 5 SSICP Roderick Hodge WINS The SSICP Senior Prom Freshest Footwear Contest TUESDAY, APRIL 14th, 2015 SSICP Roderick Hodge WINS The SSICP Senior Prom Freshest Footwear Essay Contest where he received two FREE pair of Belvedere Alligator/Suade of San Francisco based Belvedere Shoes for his upcoming Senior Prom & Senior Graduation. WAY TO GO ROD!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 6 SSICP Arts Students recognized by Water Reclamation Cook County Commissioner WEDNESDAY, APRIL 15th, 2015 Honors SSICP Art Students [Brent Stamps, Jesse Lane, Nayanna Turner, Alizha Vernon, Selah Amouku, Amari Curry, Jalisa Hemmingway, and Mia Davis] were recognized by Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago Commissioner Kari K Steele for her inaugural Rain Barrell Art Contest. The school-wide contest targeted students that showed off their artistic point of view on the environment. ALL SSICP Students will receive a FREE COMP lunch & afternoon date with the Commissioner which will include an exclusive downtown boat ride along the Chicago River during the month of June. 7 NICKI MINAJ recognizes SSICP Freshman Music Student Jovan Butler FRIDAY, APRIL 17th, 2015 SSICP FRESHMAN JOVAN BUTLER receives THE NICKI MINAJ Music MVP of Month for her outstanding leadership & dedication as a Freshman Student. In tribute to her efforts Jovan received a personally autographed CD from The Legendary Nicki Minaj. Congratulations Jovan!!!!!....Keep Up the TARNATION Hunger & Fight!!!!!!!!!!!!! 8 SSICP BIG BANG THEORY Science Student of the Month Nia Royster FRIDAY, APRIL 17th, 2015 SSICP Honors Senior Student Nia Royster receives the coveted SSICP BIG BANG THEORY Science Student of the Month Award. SSICP Legendary Science Teacher Claudette Terry anointed Ms. Royster as her TOP Science Student for the year thus far & in tribute to her efforts received a personally autographed photo from CBS BIG BANG THEORY Actress Kaley Cuoco (A.K.A Penny) & received an exclusive BIG BANG THEORY T-Shirt from CBS Way to GO NIA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 9 SSICP EA SPORTS Girls Basketball Players of the Year FRIDAY, APRIL 17th, 2015 SSICP Co- EA SPORTS Girls Basketball Players of the Year Sophomores Leah Sims & Cymone Goodrich received FREE EA Sports NBA2K15 Video Games with Portland Trail Blazers All-Star Damian Lillard on the cover. Sophomores Point Guard Leah Sims & Power Forward/Center Cymone Goodrich were the TOP Scorers for the SSICP Lady Tars Program who led the program to the sectional semi-finals this year. Way to GO Cymone & Leah!!!! The future is bright for TAR-NATION Land!!!!!! 10 SSICP EA SPORTS Boys Basketball Players of the Year Eric Johnson/Derrick Glasper FRIDAY, APRIL 17th, 2015 SSICP Co- EA SPORTS Boys Basketball Players of the Year Seniors Derrick Glasper & Eric Johnson received FREE EA Sports NBA2K15 Video Games with Portland Trail Blazers All-Star Damian Lillard on the cover. Anointed by COACH Chris Presswood the Two [Eric Johnson & Small Forward Derrick Glasper] led the SSICP Boys Basketball Team to their second consecutive winning season and provided the necessary on and off the court leadership for the program that was mostly filled with Freshman & Sophomores. Way to GO Eric & Derrick for your Senior Leadership in TAR-NATION!!!!!!!!!!! 11 SSICP Daymond John SHARK TANK Student of the Month Anthony Washington FRIDAY, APRIL 24th, 2015 SSICP Business Student of the Month (selected by SSICP Business Professor Noreen Kane) was Senior Student Anthony Washington. Mr. Washington, for his efforts, received a personally autographed entrepreneurship book from DAYMOND JOHN Co-Host of the #1 Rated Business Entrepreneurial Series ABC's SHARK TANK Way to GO Anthony!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 12 SSICP ALYSSA MILANO Softball Player of the Month Dominique Hall TUESDAY, APRIL 21st, 2015 SSICP Senior Student Dominique Hall received the ever coveted inaugural ALYSSA MILANO Softball Player of the Month Award in tribute to her leadership on and off the baseball diamond. Legendary Actress Alyssa Milano also has her own NBA/NFL & MLB women's clothing line called "TOUCH" and was a superstar softball player herself growing up in Brooklyn. Alyssa sent our CAPTAIN of our SSICP Softball Team a personally autographed baseball book authored by her as well as a personally signed photo. Way to GO Dominique for representing TARNATION the right way!!!!!!!!!! 13 Actress Murray Gray provides SSICP Performing Arts Workshop for aspiring actresses TUESDAY, APRIL 21st, 2015 Hollywood Actress Murray Gray provides SSICP Performing Arts Workshop for aspiring SSICP Theater Students. Ms. Gray, on Labor Day Weekend, will play a starring leading lady role in NFL Defensive Legend/Chicago Native Simeon Rice's Movie "UNSULLIED." 14 SSICP Girls Mentoring Workshop with 2015 Miss Black Illinois Destiny Lee WEDNESDAY, APRIL 22nd, 2015 MISS BLACK ILLINOIS 2015 Destiny Lee visits, INPERSON, to provide Girls Mentorship & CyberBullying Workshops for SSICP Ladies. Ms. Lee also received a community service award on behalf of South Shore International in tribute to being a positive inspiration to young ladies throughout the State of Illinois. 15 SSICP Girls Mentoring Workshop with VH1 Love & Hip-Hop Hollywood Co-Star Hazel-E WEDNESDAY, APRIL 22nd, 2015 VH-1 Love & Hip-Hop: Hollywood Co-Star Hazel-E provided Girls Mentorship & Cyber-Bullying Workshops for SSICP Ladies. 16 A Michigan State Political Science Legend holds court over SSICP Student Government Club WEDNESDAY, APRIL 22nd, 2015 SSICP Law Professor Legend & Honors Political Science Major from Michigan State Andrew Coleman holds court over his Student Government Club with Felicia Wright, Joshua Williams, Alexis Williams-White, Simone Merritt among others. The students in the afterschool class all aspire to run for Political Office one day. \ 17 Freshman Esperanza Gonzalez SSICP Soccer Player of the Month FRIDAY, APRIL 24th, 2015 SSICP Freshman Esperanza Gonzalez (next to Program Manager Stanley Coleman, Jr./Soccer Coach Nancy Diaz & Co-Captain Lonnise Holmes) receives the SSICP Soccer Player of the Month in tribute to scoring the first goal of the season for the SSICP Tars Soccer Team & overall leadership/work ethic she has displayed this year. Esperanza's goal also gave the Lady Tars Soccer Team their first point of the season; forging a 1 NIL Tie at home vs. their arch rival Epic Academy Legends. After that game the Tars Soccer Team went on to win 2 of their last three regular season games to push into the playoffs for the first time in school history. Ms. Gonzalez won 8 Tickets to a Chicago White Sox home game and autographed soccer ball to USA Olympic Great Landon Donovan. Thanks so much to Esperanza, Lonnise & COACH Diaz, Keep up the Great Work!!!!!!!!!!!!! 18 SSICP Girls Mentoring Workshop with ANTM Winner Lisa D'Amato FRIDAY, APRIL 24th, 2015 AMERICA'S NEXT TOP MODEL Cycle 17 All-Star Winner Lisa D'Amato provided Girls Mentorship & Cyber-Bullying Workshops for SSICP Ladies. 19 SSICP Cyber-Bullying Workshop with VH1 BASKETBALL WIVES: LA Co-Star Sundy Carter FRIDAY, APRIL 24th, 2015 VH-1 BASKETBALL WIVES: LOS ANGELES Co-Star Sundy Carter provided a CyberBullying Prevention Workshop for SSICP Students. 20 SSICP Seniors Wins Senior Prom Shopping Spree at WATER TOWERS PLACE FRIDAY, APRIL 24th, 2015 SSICP Seniors Kierra Young-Bey (pix below with Best Friend Jamese Kane) along with Marquiana Griffin & Intisar Muhammad ALL Won Senior Prom Shopping Spree at the Bebe Women's Store inside the WATER TOWERS PLACE on Michigan Avenue. They won a school-wide business entrepreneurial essay contest concerning the importance of The Bebe Women's Store Business Plan. WAY TO GO INTISAR, KIERRA & MARQUIANA for their Senior Prom Gift!!!! 21 ERIC JOHNSON receives special invite from STEVE HARVEY in JUNE THURSDAY, MAY 7th , 2015 Senior Eric Johnson recently received an exclusive invitation from "The Original King of Comedy" and has been accepted to "The Steve Harvey Mentoring Program for Young Men" in Dallas, Texas which will take place between Tuesday, June 9th through Sunday, June 14th, 2015. Earlier in January Eric Johnson was chosen to participate in the annual "Steve Harvey Mentoring Program for Young Men" conference at Chicago State University. Students throughout the weekend were mentored by Mr. Steve Harvey, himself, & his many male working corporate professionals & officers from the U.S Navy, U.S Army, U.S Air Force & U.S Marines. The conference taught the students the importance of trust, leadership, focus, accountability and discipline in order to achieve one’s life goals. Eric Johnson was the MVP of the conference in winning the following awards from the entire camp at the end of the conference - FUTURE LEADERS AWARD MOST PRESTIGIOUS AWARD & MOST LIKELY TO SUCCEED Not bad earning those accolades out of 100 Chosen High School Males selected for the annual camp. Way to go Eric Johnson representing TAR-NATION on a national level!!!!!!! 22 Principal Wells ABC 7 Chicago LIVE Golf Segment with Tracy Butler TUESDAY MAY 12th, 2015 An extra early, early morning for us but well worth it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
