Message from the Editor
I’ve lived in Stonehenge for thirty-one years and have been
on the board for 23 of those years. During that time, I’ve
been a newly-wed, young parent, and empty-nester. Since
I moved into Stonehenge, our neighborhood has expanded
to more than 1300 homes and includes people of a broad
spectrum of age levels and interests.
The purpose of our homeowners’ association is to promote
the cohesiveness of our community through personal
relationships, rather than through enforcement activities to
make all of the homes follow strict codes. In this edition of
the newsletter is information on a large number of opportunities for Stonehenge residents to get involved with neighbors. I
encourage you to consider ways that you may want to increase
your connections. Whether it be through an official neighborhood activity, or informal activities with your neighbors,
having neighborhood relationships adds joy to daily living.
One of the best ways to start is to join one or both of our
neighborhood internet share groups: stonehengehoa@yahoo.
groups.com and Nextdoor Stonehenge <stonehengehoa.nextdoor.com>. This newsletter is only published a few times per
year. To keep current on all of the great events that are happening in our neighborhood, getting an email notification is very
valuable. Also be on the lookout for the event signs that are
placed at strategic locations prior to events.

Share some coffee and plant talk with your neighbors. This
very popular Stonehenge events is being held on Sunday
rather than Saturday this year. Make a note on your calendar
to attend.
Divide those bulbs! Dig up seedlings! Root some clippings!
Bring some seeds! Bring anything you would like to swap. OR
feel free to come empty handed, there are always leftovers. We

The Stonehenge HOA will hold a very brief annual meeting for
all members on Monday, October 14th in the Carolina Wings
Restaurant located near Starbucks in the shopping center on
Creedmoor Road. Members will be given an opportunity to
ask questions, make requests, and bring ideas to board members.
Carolina Wings will be a hosting a Stonehenge Appreciation
Night for all attendees with lots of free appetizers including
an endless supply of wings. Please come out and enjoy the
fellowship of your neighbors and learn more about your homeowner’s association. All Stonehenge residents are invited to
attend, whether or not you are members of the homeowners’
association. The fun starts at 7 pm!

Clubbing: Stonehenge Style
If you’ve never gotten involved in a Stonehenge neighbor
group, the fall is the perfect time to join. Most clubs have
taken a vacation over the summer and will be starting regular
meetings again in September. The following is an overview of
club choices:
Stonehenge Women’s Network
This group is one of the longest running groups in Stonehenge.
Women of all ages are welcomed. The meetings often involve
a special program such as flower arranging, craft making,
game night, or a speaker. There is always a lot of laughing,
sharing of ideas, and fellowship. Get on our email list and get
notifications about each month’s planned activity and location.

Book Club
Members of the book club meet on the second Thursday night
of each month to discuss the book assignment for the month.
A wide range of books have been read during the more than
twelve years that this club has been active. This is a friendly
group with a diversity of opinions and opening arms to new
members. If you like to read, this is a great way to get to
know like-minded neighbors. The location of the meeting rotates among members’ homes. To find out about the book title

New!!! Stonehenge Under 45 Social Club
Stonehenge will be starting a new appetizer / cocktail club
beginning in September! The group is comprised of couples
roughly under 45 who may or may not have young kids at
home. It will be a great time to hang out and meet neighbors
- kids will have an opportunity to join throughout the year as
well. The group will meet bi-monthly on Thursday evenings
at a different house each time to enjoy appetizers, desserts

Stonehenge Bridge Club
On the first and third Tuesday afternoon of each month,
members of the bridge club meet to play cards at rotating
host homes. It is not necessary to be a bridge expert, but basic
knowledge of the rules for bidding is needed. The group is
always looking for substitutes and new members. If you are
interested in finding out more about the bridge club, please
contact Linda Waldron at lwaldron@nc.rr.com.
The Stonehenge Dinner Club
This group meets four times a year in groups of 8. There is
usually a theme which has been chosen ahead of time such as
“Italian”. The dinner group delegates cooking responsibilities
and hosting duties rotate so that each couple hosts one time
per year.
This is a great way to make neighborhood friends and enjoy a
truly superb dinner close to home for a reasonable cost. If you
are not sure you want to make a commitment, consider placing
your name on the substitute list.
A planning potluck meeting is scheduled for September 7th.
The new rotation schedule will be put together soon thereafter.

Monday Mix, Mingle, and Munch
at Margaux’s
It’s time for another Stonehenge social night at Margaux’s
restaurant. All Stonehenge residents are invited. Margaux’s
provides the food (a very generous buffet of tapas) and you
provide the pleasant conversation. The fun starts at 7 pm on
Monday, September 16th. Look for a greeter at the door and
get your name tag to get special drink pricing. Hope to see

Stonehenge youth ages 9-14 are invited to join a group run
training group. Andrew Jeffries, a professional running coach,
assisted by experienced runners Steph Jeffries and Andrea
Hartzell, are leading the program. Participants will be placed
in groups based upon the pace that they run. The group will
have weekly practices twice a week. Participation in running
competitions will be optional and based upon group interest.
The first few practices will be on September 12 at Baileywick
Park. Locations will vary to make the practices more fun and
to provide courses of different lengths.
Parent volunteers are requested to facilitate practices. This
will be a great club for kids to get fit, have fun and enjoy running this fall.
Trivia Pursuit for Stonehenge!!
Coming later this fall-Stonehenge trivia night at Carolina Wings
restaurant. Team trivia is a lot of fun and a great way to meet
neighbors and get family members of various ages working together as a team. This is a new family-friendly event sponsored
by your Homeowner’s Association with generous donations
from local merchants. There will be prizes, fun, and socializing
time. Look for more information on the date and time on the
communication networks and neighborhood signs.

Let’s Spread the Lights!
For the past three years, visitors to Corberrie Lane and Oxbow
Court have been delighted by the sight of large, outdoor, multicolored Christmas ornaments hanging from branches of tall
trees. The Phillips family who live on Corberrie Lane helped
get the tradition started in December 2010 using an idea that
was developed by friends of theirs who live in Greensboro.
The lighted balls are on display from early December through
Mid-January.
Each of the past three years, neighbors on these streets have
gathered together to create the balls which are made out of
chicken wire. The balls are then hung on reachable tree limbs
or installed via the help of a potato shooter on limbs as high as
25 feet or more off the ground. The major expense for the balls
is the extension cord required to light up the approximately
300 lights on each ball.
Last year there was a lot of interest in having similar displays in
other areas of Stonehenge. According to Susan Phillips, “This
display has brought a lot of neighbors together. It’s been fun to
watch the increasing numbers of cars that visit each year.”

Join a club, give some ideas to our board, volunteer your
time, attend a gathering at Margaux’s and Carolina Wings,
get together a trivia team, make outdoor lighted ornaments for
display in December, bring your kids to the fall party.......

our annual pool party and yard sale.
Fall Children’s Party
It’s a tradition in Stonehenge to treat neighborhood kids on
the Saturday before Halloween. This year’s event is still being
planned but the date is set to be October 26th. Please consider
volunteering to help with this event in any capacity by
contacting Derek Brandon at derekbrandon@gmail.com.

Because of the widespread interest in expanding the display
to other sections of our neighborhood, Susan Phillips has
graciously volunteered to coordinate a Christmas ball assembly workshop. The workshop will be held inside the Carolina
Wings Restaurant located across from Starbucks in the Harris
Teeter shopping center. Refreshments will be provided and
the Homeowners’ Association is donating chicken wire to
construct the balls.
The exact date and time for this event have not been finalized
as of the date of this newsletter. Be on the lookout for more
information to be distributed over the Yahoo and Nextdoor
Neighbor communication networks or email a board member.
In addition, instructions for making the displays will be posted
on our neighborhood website, www.stonehengeliving.com. If
you are not on one of our email communication networks and
would like email notification of the workshop, send a message

Host Yards Needed
Please volunteer to host a “SLOW DOWN” reminder sign in
your yard. The signs are rotated regularly to increase their
reach and effect. Darlene Miller coordinates this project and is
currently updating her information file with contact information. Please contact her at damiller_61@yahoo.com if you are
willing to be on the list for future sign placements.
