of Sculpture
NEW Trace the history of Western sculpture from
earliest times to the present. Check in on the religious
works of Mesopotamian and Cretan cultures. Continue
with the amazing Mayan relief artists, Greek masters,
icons of the Italian Renaissance and the Baroque and
Neoclassical champions. End with those breathtaking
moderns including Rodin, Giacometti, Calder and Moore.

the meanings of the rituals and traditions of the

Archaeology in the Footsteps
of Alexander the Great
NEW Alexander, one of the most fascinating personalities in human history, conquered most of what was
the civilized world at the time. Tutored by Aristotle, he
brought Greek ideas and culture to his vast empire,
which included Palestine, Syria, Egypt, Iran, Afghanistan
and western India. Illustrated lectures explore his
historical roots and enduring influence. Examine the
personalities reflected in archaeological sites, art and
monuments as you trace his conquests.

NEW Expressionism originated at the beginning of
the 20th century. Explore artists such as Franz Marc,
Ernst Kirchner, Emil Nolde and Max Beckmann, who
were once known as the “avant-garde.” Their objective
was to produce non-objective art, which also reflected
the outcomes of war and disaster. The influences of
the newest forms of poetry, music, literature and the
rise of printmaking, established this “ism.” Those who
left Europe to escape persecution gave rise to the
Abstract Expressionist Movement in New York City.

History Museums
NEW In illustrated lectures, focus on 14 historic
houses in Deerfield, MA featured at the annual
Philadelphia Antiques Show (PA Convention Center,
4/26-4/29). See how household items like furniture,
ceramics, needlework and silver (on loan from this
fascinating village) give a compelling picture of 18th
and 19th century rural life. Purchase tickets (~$20)
from instructor for early admission, docent-guided tour,

Biking: Group Rides & Safety Tips
If you know how to ride a bike and would like the
experience of riding in a group, this class is for you.
We’ll combine Thursday evening classroom sessions
(5/1 & 5/8) with Saturday rides (5/3 & 5/10) on low
traffic roads and paved trails. In classroom sessions
learn how to fix a flat, adjust your brakes and gears
plus other basic maintenance tips for safe cycling.
Handling and maneuvering exercises practiced in a
parking lot will help improve your skills in negotiating
traffic and other obstacles. Functioning bike and
helmet required.

Directions: On Lancaster Ave. going west from Villanova, pass on-ramp
to Rt. 476 North. Take the next right onto King of Prussia Rd. Cross
Matsonford Rd. At the bottom of hill, turn right onto Gulph Creek Rd.

District and/or Lower Merion School District are
closed, all MLSN classes are cancelled.
Policies
Registration Fee
Pay one $5 per person per term registration fee and
enroll in as many classes as you wish. This non-refun
dable fee helps cover administrative expenses.
Withdrawals
To qualify for a credit voucher, you must call MLSN
(610-687-8201) during office hours. No email
withdrawals will be accepted.

You will receive MLSN credit (less a $10 processing
charge), ONLY if we are notified 24 hours before the
starting date of your course.

You will receive MLSN credit based on the price
of the course and the date of notification.
A per-session withdrawal fee of $15 or more
will apply. NOTE: No credit will be issued for
one-session courses.
MLSN Credit is transferable and is valid for one year.
It may be used toward any of our courses.
Trips You will receive MLSN credit (less a $10
processing charge) ONLY if we are notified at least
three weeks in advance.
Textbooks and Supplies Textbooks and supply
purchases are non-refundable.
Students
MLSN welcomes students 18 years or older, unless
otherwise indicated.
Course Cancellations
MLSN reserves the right to cancel courses as necessary.
If a course is cancelled, a refund will be issued.
Make-up Classes
Every effort will be made to reschedule classes
cancelled because of weather or other emergencies.
Guest Passes
Guest passes ($15) are available for courses of
4 sessions or more at Creutzburg Center and Lower
Merion High School. They must be purchased on-site
the evening/day of the course, subject to space
availability. The guest pass fee will be credited
toward the tuition if you register for that course.

Enjoy Expanded Programming at
the Creutzburg Center for Adult Education
Founded in 1938 with 11 classes, Main Line School Night now offers close to 500 day, evening and
weekend classes each term, spanning over 23 subject areas. Our 2013, 75th Anniversary theme,
Embracing Our Past…Envisioning Our Future, paid tribute to this rich history. What began as an
“experiment in adult education” has become an iconic institution, inspiring thousands of people to
make lifelong learning an integral part of their lives.
As we look to the future, we have reason to celebrate. Radnor Township has granted Main Line School
Night a long-term lease to the Creutzburg Center. We now have full use of the first and second floors for
classrooms and administrative offices. We are excited about this opportunity to centralize and expand
our operations within this historic building.
We are also incredibly grateful to Arlene Olson and Anne Iskrant for their generous Challenge Grant
in honor of our 75th Anniversary. Thanks to a supportive Board of Directors, a dedicated staff, faculty,
students and many others, the goal was exceeded. These Challenge Grant gifts will be used to benefit
Creutzburg Center restoration projects and the educational programs of Main Line School Night.
In support of this fund-raising effort, please consider including a gift with your enrollment to help
continue Main Line School Night’s legacy of “Learning for Life” in the 21st century and beyond.
