The official Guide - International Games Week Berlin
THE OFFICIAL GUIDE CONNECTING GAME BUSINESS, TECHNOLOGY AND CULTURE APRIL 18-24, 2016 WWW.GAMESWEEKBERLIN.COM Welcome to the 3rd edition of INTERNATIONAL GAMES WEEK BERLIN THANKS TO THE PARTNERS OF INTERNATIONAL GAMES WEEK BERLIN Main Sponsors MALL OF BERLIN Institutional Partners DEUTSCHLAND Media Partners STARTUP GERMANY Venue Sponsors Official Ticketing Partner Since we started connecting game business, technology and culture through an umbrella brand for events we continuously grew and attract more and more target groups. Berlin is our playground and we now are seriously spread out throughout the city with 12 different venues. All events are organized by individual entities which allows for the most authentic experience for the attendants. As events are run by people on both ends – the organizers as well as the attendants – I want to thank everybody involved in making this awesome experience happen! Special thanks goes to all the volunteers – without your love we would never survive! Our industry is like a roller-coaster: Fast, regular changes, ups and downs in trends and technologies make it most difficult to stay in a leading position for long. The rise of VR, enabling new forms of immersive experiences, as well as of the spectator-mode like eSports tournaments, streaming and fan-events with Live Let’s Plays or community gaming are just two examples. All 12 events each bring their own highlights – far too many to mention them all. Check out our new App (thanks to Announce!) to navigate through the week with ease. Play Heart, Party Hard! Michael Liebe, Head of INTERNATIONAL GAMES WEEK BERLIN The games industry in the capital region is booming. In terms of dynamics and diversity there is no other location in Germany that is growing as fast as Berlin-Brandenburg is. From indie game studios through to big publishers, from game events through to think tanks for new technologies and innovative formats - Berlin offers you everything. The INTERNATIONAL GAMES WEEK BERLIN reflects this diversity and connects the scene, far beyond the capital region. Its mix of business and industry insights and public events is unique in Germany as well as in Europe, what finds expression in the continuously growing number of participants through the last years. Following the motto of “Connecting Game Business, Technology and Culture” it brings together game designers, publishers, investors, politicians, players, fans, families, researchers as well as representatives from the entire media-industry. Founded in 2014 by Booster Space, the INTERNATIONAL GAMES WEEK BERLIN is the successor of the DGT - Deutsche Gamestage which were initiated by Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg in 2007 and have been supported ever since. Different to DGT, it is a platform focusing on highlighting and supporting the individual events, it is a true umbrella brand. You cannot think INTERNATIONAL GAMES WEEK BERLIN without its founding partners, the core events: Quo Vadis, A MAZE., Gamefest and Matchmaking Dinner. oint infrastructures, such as the Safe Space Policy, the press accreditation system or the collaborative design of the week‘s program establish a family of events. One of our missions is to showcase the complex diversity of the games scene. Hence J we strategically added different events to the family tree. Womenize! was born in 2015 and follows the agenda to offer attractive content for women in the tech, digital business and media industries. This year we added the VR & Games Investment Booster in order to foster financing for European game companies and researching games BarCamp in order to support game academics. PlayChamp! the amateur-mastership for multiplayer games, as well as Game <3 Cinema, the more casual get-together, add up to the offers for gamers provided by Gamefest at the Computer Games Museum and the A MAZE./Berlin festival. o, in the end, the name follows a mission: Games are popular worldwide and we aim to attract an international audience. Games are for people and the events in the second half of the week aim to attract local residents and tourists as well as attendants of the other events. Games are diverse and we need the seven days, from labour to leisure, in order to offer the full experience for gamers, industry professionals, designers, founders, investors, politics, the press and other media representatives.
