Stories from our QTC Travelers--Send us yours!
June 2007 To Be Used with the Quilters’ Travel Companion 9th Edition 2006 - 2008, Chalet Publishing June 2007 Volume 4 Issue 2 Stories from our QTC Travelers--Send us yours! Kay Marburger I started quilting 8 years ago. From my first quilt, I WAS HOOKED. I live in a small town with no quilt shop, so when I discovered QTC in a quilt shop, I latched onto one and consult it whenever I venture out of the La Grange city limits. I love to look at and feel all the new fabrics; I collect patterns and gadgets like a Grabbit collects pins. My theory is, “Buy it now, because you don’t know if or when you will see it again!” Whenever my husband and I travel for business or pleasure, I take along QTC and we allow time for me to check out the quilt shops along the routes. Often, I make route suggestions which we incorporate into our itinerary. He now asks if there are any quilt shops in destinations where he wants to go. (I think he dangles that question in front of me to encourage me to travel with him. I shamelessly fall for it every time.) I do live within 100-150 miles of a lot of quilt shops and, on good motorcycling days, we will set out on the bike for a ‘new’ or ‘old favorite shop’ culled from QTC. On our last vacation, the statistics read: 950 miles on motorcycle, 12 quilt shops, and 1 quilt show. People laugh and say, “You can’t carry much on a motorcycle.” And I laugh and say, “How much room do 4 fat quarters take up, and they stuff into any available space in my saddlebag!!” Nelda Sherv, I found ‘The Quilters’ Travel Companion’ in Mt. Vernon, Il. The owner brought it to my attention and it was mine from the second I saw it!! It took me 10 days instead of the normal 2 days to return home from relatives in Danville, IN as I explored the places off of my normal route home. Quilt shops, fabric shops (no antique shops as this is my time in life to ‘down size’ to living simply … adding anything having to do with quilts (books, magazines) is OK!) I kept calling my neighbor to say “I won’t be home until ….” she must have wondered if I would ever come home at all! I can only say my journey home was very much a God Planned Road map. I met such wonderful people along the way. Even stopped at the Raggedy Ann Museum in Arcola, IL (www.raggedyann-museum.org). The story behind the Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls was wonderful and as I went in each room with the museum guide, I fell in love with the doll I never owned. The ‘little girl’ in me that I thought was lost, came out to want to play and giggle once again after all these years. Oh how I wish I could travel the USA to visit all the fabric & quilt shops I see in the quilt magazines. Talk about a line from a very old song…. “ I want to visit those far away places I’ve been dreaming about - from a book that I took from the shelf.” I have no desire to see China or Siam mentioned in the song of old. The USA has everything to satisfy my wanderlust - it is all in the QTC. Sharon Collins, VA I have purchased two copies, one for both vehicles. We use it every time we go on vacation or short trips. It helps me remember who is courteous and who is not so I don’t go back to the store. I make notes by the shops so I will know whether to spend my money there or save it for another friendly shop! The Needlecrafters’ Travel Companion has just come back from the printer! Includes Cross-Stitch, Needlepoint, Yarn and Knitting Shops across the US and Canada 272 Pages -- 8 1/2” by 11” 1340+ featured shops Cost $13.99 (free shipping) We also have some other new products--please see page 4. Page 1 June 2007 Update your copy of QTC with the following It’s amazing how much has changed since last June. I felt that moves and closures are most important so I have highlighted those. For moves, if I don’t mention any other changes (i.e. city, phone or zip) you can assume they stayed the same. I might suggest making these changes right in your book.
