LRGHealthcare FIRST to Join NH Hospital Meat Program FARM MILES SMITH BEEF A Healthy-Living Partnership Lakes Region General Hospital and Franklin Regional Hospital are proud to partner with Miles Smith Farm and the NH Meat Hospital Program. We are the first healthcare organization in the State to participate in this program. Through this partnership, our patients, staff and visitors will be eating healthier meat, free from hormones, antibiotics, artificial additives and preservatives. To kick off the program, Miles Smith Farm will be at Franklin Regional Hospital on June 4, and Lakes Region General Hospital on June 6, where staff and visitors can sample locally raised beef. In addition to receiving recipes for healthy meat dishes, staff can learn about the Employee Meat Buyers Club that allows for the purchase of healthy USDA approved beef at a substantial discount. At Miles Smith Farm we raise and purchase animals from local farmers that are entirely grass-fed or fed a minimal amount of grain to obtain that marbling in an extra tender steak. The reasoning behind this philosophy is that we want HEALTHY cows and HEALTHY beef for our customers. Grass-fed beef is healthier to eat because it’s lower in saturated fat and higher in nutrients like beta-carotene, vitamin E and omega–3 fatty acids. Our cows are allowed to graze naturally in open pastures exercising their four legs to develop natural muscling. Cows that eat grass and other “weeds” aerate the ground, which helps produce more grass, which puts more oxygen into the atmosphere.
