Follow these step-by-step techniques: 1 Shampoo hair and massage scalp with SeaExtend® Silkening Shampoo to restore hair to its healthiest condition while protecting against thermal damage. 2 Follow with SeaExtend Silkening Power Infusion. This 60-second rinse-out treatment repairs hair with cationic lipids that fortify the hair for added strength and flexibility. Spray evenly on damp hair and comb through from roots to ends with a fine-tooth comb. Leave on hair for 60 seconds, then rinse out for instant results. 3 Emulsify one pump of SeaExtend Silkening Oil Treatment in palms and between fingers. Apply to towel-dried hair by running fingers through the hair. Apply additional Silkening Oil as needed to sections throughout the hair, making sure to comb through with a fine-tooth comb to achieve even product distribution from roots to ends. 4 Blow dry hair in sections using the Aquage Smoothing Brush to smooth and polish hair’s surface. Always direct the flow of air toward the ends to help align strands and further polish the surface. 5 After the hair has been thoroughly dried, emulsify a pearlsized amount of Aquage Detailing Creme in the palms and between the fingers. Run fingers through hair to distribute, paying special attention to any dry-looking areas at the ends. This ultralight grooming cream adds definition and separation as it calms flyaways and gives hair natural-looking sheen. the formula: + + + = visit aquage.com and click on SeaExtend silkening shampoo, SeaExtend silkening power infusion, SeaExtend silkening oil treatment and aquage detailing creme for product details, tips and step-by-steps cover: photography luis alvarez | hair eric fisher | haircolor trish gonzales | makeup wanda alvarez dear salon partner, The salon industry has championed many different charities over the years. Most recently, Susan G. Komen has been an industry-wide focus. But did you know that Aquage was the first professional haircare company to support Susan G. Komen for the Cure? Thanks to support from salons like yours, our industry has raised millions of dollars to help find a cure for breast cancer. We plan on continuing the fight against breast cancer this fall, but we wanted to pioneer another important initiative for the Spring. We searched for a special cause that has potential to garner industry-wide support like Komen, and we found one in our own backyard! We are proud to announce our partnership with Wigs for Kids, a non-profit organization committed to helping children suffering from hair loss. Wigs For Kids was founded over 33 years ago, by hairdresser Jeffrey Paul and his wife Zina, in an effort to help their 15-year old niece who was undergoing chemotherapy treatments for leukemia. She had always dreamed of competing as a gymnast for the school’s team but her hair would be falling out from treatment when it was time for tryouts. Jeffrey promised her that if she focused on gymnastics he would find a solution for her hair. To fulfill his promise, he searched for a natural-looking wig that would withstand the rigors of typical kids’ activities like gymnastics and swimming. Unfortunately, he could not find a suitable solution, so he decided to make a wig for his niece himself! That incredible journey not only allowed Jeffrey to fulfill his promise but set the foundation for Wigs for Kids, an organization that has grown to help thousands of kids look like themselves and live their lives. Together we can make a difference! Here are 3 ways: • Stock up on our 3 Wigs for Kids box sets. We’ll donate 15% of the purchase price for each one sold, with a minimum donation of $30,000. • Become a Wigs for Kids “Ambassador” Salon and help us “harvest” ponytails the proper way (improperly cut and bound ponytails are not usable)! Here are the facts about WFK: • Over 2 million children are affected by hair loss from chemotherapy, alopecia, trichotillomania and other medical conditions. • Wigs for Kids has provided hair replacement systems to thousands of children at no cost to the families, and they adjust or replace them at no charge until they are 18 years old. • Each wig takes 20 – 30 ponytails of human hair; they are all hand-tied with a natural growth pattern. The cost of each wig is $1,800 or more. • This is a national charity that’s all about hair and hairdressing. Almost all of the donations go to fund making more wigs. • Sponsor a child’s total hair system or help create awareness by hosting cut-a-thons and other fundraising events in your salon. For more information on Wigs For Kids, visit Wigsforkids.org Imagine how tough it must be for kids suffering from hair loss. We did, and we want to do something about it. We hope you’ll join us. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of so many young people! Best Regards, Dennis Lubin President & Co-founder Aquage/SalonQuest, LLC. It affects how your employees feel about their job, which translates into how they connect with clients, who determine the success of your business. stylist Ufriendly Usmiles Ureliable Uteam player Finding a good fit Salon and school owner Eric Fisher says to hire for attitude then train for talent. Look for someone who will fit in with the culture you want and the rest of your team. Finding someone who has similar values and visions as you is worth much more than killer skills with a bad attitude. Lifetime of learning Encourage your stylists to keep learning and growing. Set aside days that are devoted to learning a new technique or start an education fund to help stylists attend education events. They will feel your support and the new skills they develop will make them more confident in themselves. Giving back together One of the best ways to develop team building is to volunteer for a cause together. And why not use the skills you already have? For example, become a Wigs for Kids Ambassador Salon by harvesting ponytails, holding fundraisers and telling the organization’s story to your clients. Visit www.wigsforkids.org to learn more. Aside from enjoying work, the benefits of creating a great workplace culture have a long-term impact, too. By working on a cause together, employees identity with each other and feel engaged in their workplace. When employees feel engaged, their loyalty is stronger. So come on, who wants to have some fun? Her presence will live on in the work of the Aquage team.” Luis Alvarez, Aquage Co-founder “Heaven was like an angel from above. She illuminated the Aquage stage with rays of brilliance, beauty and style that captivated audiences everywhere. This shining star will surely be missed.” Sydell Miller, Aquage Chairman “Heaven brought love and light to the Aquage team. She was always searching for something new to create. Heaven had a warm, brilliant smile that brought everyone in.” Dennis Lubin, Aquage Co-founder “When I think of Heaven I think of her kindness and warmth. When she turned that smile upon you, you instantly felt love and the room brightened, as if she had turned on the sun!” Ann Bray, Aquage Artist “Heaven was truly an inspiration and a ray of light. It was of great honor to share a stage and friendship with a woman who gave all she had to every life she touched.” Tausha Ostrander, Aquage Artist “Heaven was an amazing educator and through the years became a good friend. I will miss her smile, the knowing look we would exchange on stage, the laughs, and the drinks we shared resting our tired feet from the shows. Rest in peace my friend.” Shawna Parvin, Aquage Artist “Heaven was like a talented musician playing beautiful music. She was always happy, positive and effervescent. Elevating any gathering she attended – be it hair shows or just having dinner with the Aquage team. She will be truly missed.” Eric Fisher, Aquage Artist “She was a ‘firecracker’ who at the same time was our calm in the midst of the hustle and bustle of many Aquage events. We won’t be the same without her.” Wanda Alvarez, Aquage Academy Coordinator “At my very first show, I was very nervous and Heaven was the first to place her hand gently on my shoulder and say, “You can do this, I got your back.” From that day on, we shared a wonderful sense of confidence and support.” Nicole Gary, Aquage Show Manager “Heaven’s love of hairdressing was intoxicating and you could not help but to be drawn into her excitement when she taught. Heaven made everyone feel like a star. It was an honor to work with a true lady who I loved and respected deeply.” Don Wismer, Aquage Show & Education Director “All that glitters is gold! ....That’s Heaven through and through.... Enjoy the journey....” Shelly Devlin, Aquage Artist “Our industry was blessed by her and she will be greatly missed. We all benefitted from her immense talent and passion for her craft. Her legacy will live on!” Theresa Elmore, Aquage Artist “Heaven could light up a room. She generated such an amazing spirit around her. Her smile was contagious; as soon as you saw her you just felt that the world was a better place.” Donna Hamilton, Aquage Artist “Her laugh, her smile, her love and kindness – these I will hold in my heart always. I miss you, my dear friend.” Thomas Smalley, Aquage Artist “Heaven was a strong inspiration for me to become an Aquage educator. Being able to share the stage with her these past few years was a dream. With every head of perfect curls, I will see her smiling face.” Nogodar Martinez, Aquage Artist POWER b4 “the most important product we sell is change” Nothing changes a look more drAmatically than A heavy fringe. Introducing a strong fringe to a style frames the eyes adding drama and focus. What makes it fresh and modern is keeping the rest of the hair around the face shattered and diffused. The contrast between the strong, clean cut of the fringe and the softness of the hair that frames the sides of the face gives this style a cool, edgy vibe. Another key element to successfully adding bangs is LENGTH. Aquage Master Haircutter, Eric Fisher, recommends keeping bangs just below the eyebrow for an updated, sexy, sultry effect. You can even offer customers free bang trims, rather than cut them too short initially. This also keeps ‘em coming back into your salon, where they could pick up an additional product or two to keep their style looking great between visits. Jus sayin’... :) Aquage team artist and colorist, Trish Gonzales, made the call and took our makeover model’s color from multi-dimensional highlights to rich, solid color to compliment her new fringe-forward style. And it paid off...beautifully! products used: SeaExtend Silkening Shampoo, Silkening Power Infusion, Silkening Oil Treatment and Detailing Creme CLICK HERE pinterest makeover board straight tedge the aquage masterclass academy an incredible hands-on experience. passion. education. inspiration. “I would recommend this academy to anyone: new professionals, seasoned professionals, anyone looking to tweak their skills or re-energize.” – Darlene Garretson “Everything about it was great. Everything about the educators was great. I learned more in 2 days than I did in beauty school!” – Frank Tarr “While fast-paced and packed with information, the course never felt overwhelming or intimidating. The cohesive family structure of the Aquage artists and staff makes you feel more like part of the team and less like a student. A return to the mastering of basic technique with in-depth instruction and analogy makes it easy to find new inspiration in everyday salon situations and clientele. Absolutely commercially viable!” – Derrick Driver “I have been doing hair for 30 years and still love learning. I learned many helpful techniques and was inspired by the Aquage Team. ” – Jennifer Malacuso “Great, friendly, inviting staff makes you feel comfortable and is happy to assist.
