On a beautiful Hawaii day, HAMS held its 34th annual golf tournament on 19 June 2015. Once again the Tawani Foundation of Chicago was our Title Sponsor and Island Palms Communities, LLC was our Dinner Sponsor. With the support of these two generous organizations, we are always poised for another successful event. In addition to our volunteers, the Leilehua Golf Course staff provide superb support and expertise. A huge mahalo to Lynn Wakui, Lou Merkle, David Higa and their staff! Another group that deserves recognition is Ramon Pegues’ Leilehua Grill staff. We look forward to the 35th annual tournament on June 17, 2016! In September of 2014, HAMS began an education program for youth. Education Chair, Les Bise, approached Hawaii’s JROTC programs across the state and the response has been terrific. From September through June, HAMS hosted six high school JROTC programs (Aiea, Kapolei, Konawaena, Leilehua, Mililani, and Waianae) and three groups from the Youth Challenge Academy for a tour of the museum and a film titled “Unknown Warriors” about the Nisei soldiers during WWII. When time permitted, the students were challenged by the history scavenger hunt. HAMS also pays for the transportation and hosts the students for lunch. We are looking forward to our second year of hosting school visits. Please note that the hours of operation for the museum and store have been curtailed due to recent personnel transfers at the U.S. Army Museum of Hawaii. The Museum is now open Tuesday through Saturday from 9 AM until 4:15 PM. The Museum Store is open from 9 AM until 4:00 PM. If you are in Waikiki, please visit the store and see all the wonderful changes that have been made by Ginny and Eric in the look and merchandise. HAMS’ next big event will be the presentation of the Ihe Award at the Ala Moana Hotel’s Hibiscus Ballroom on Friday, November 13, 2015, from 7 AM until 9 AM. This year’s honoree is Senator Daniel Kahikina Akaka. Please mark your calendars and make your plans to join us! Aloha, Vicki Olson Yours truly with my husband Rick, Store Manager Ginny Clarke, and super volunteer Tosh Nakano at our recent Golf Tournament HAWAII ARMY MUSEUM SOCIETY Page 2 Hawaii Army Museum Society 2015 Golf Tournament W e held our 34rd Annual General Herbert E.
