See below in English a statement from our diocesan liturgy office and in the column to the right the same information in Spanish. Keep in mind the week of prayer for the coming of the Holy Spirit anew beginning with the Ascension is a good practice to continue. Fr. Jim Preskenis, csc Associate Pastor **************************** The Solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord Is celebrated on the weekend of May 7-8, 2016 In the Diocese of Saint Petersburg In the Jubilee Year 2000, the Florida Conference of Catholic Bishops voted unanimously to transfer the solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord from the traditional Thursday, forty-days (40) after Easter, to the Seventh Sunday of Easter. This in accord with an indult granted to the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) by the Holy See. Therefore, for the Latin rite Catholic Churches in the Province of the State of Florida, the Seventh Sunday of Easter is always replaced by the Solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord. The Ascension is NOT to be celebrated on the traditional Thursday. For 2016, the Ascension of the Lord is celebrated on the weekend of May 7-8. Evangelii Gauidium 5 min Wherever there is life, fervour and a desire to bring Christ to others, genuine vocations will arise. Even in parishes where priests are not particularly committed or joyful, the fraternal life and fervour of the community can awaken in the young a desire to consecrate themselves completely to God and to the preaching of the Gospel. This is particularly true if such a living community prays insistently for vocations and courageously proposes to its young people the path of special consecration.
