AERONAUTICA MILITARE E FRECCE TRICOLORI
Memphis Belle srl is the only official licensed worldwide
of Aeronautica Militare and Frecce Tricolori brands to the
watchmaking industry. The production and distribution of
watches bearing these marks are allowed only to licensees.
The history of watchmaking writes one of his most exciting chapters
when the flight pioneers start to plow the skies and immediately reveals
the need to provide instrumentation for the measurement of time
capable of ensuring accuracy and maximum visibility even in extreme
conditions of use: from early last century to present, the evolution
of aviation sector technology has been accompanied by a gradual
improvement of technical characteristics of watch intended for use in
flight, especially for engagement in military missions.
The watch of aviator has, since its inception, special features:
its task is to support pilots during long distance flights and for night
patrols, it must, therefore, meet the requirements of navigational and
observation watch, first of all precision.
The dial has the obligation to be perfectly legible in the narrow
cockpit, therefore, the large dial size and the realization of large hands
and large luminescent numerals to connoted the dial design; the
mechanism inside must be protected against vibrations and magnetic
fields, the need led to the creation of special protection cages; its strap
should ensure an optimal fit and maximum resistance, from which the
material strength and the presence of reinforced stitching.
Even the design of the aviator’s watch follows a path parallel to the
track traced in the sky by the most sophisticated aircraft, recovering,
at the same time, the technologicy and sophisticated style of the flight
instrumentation on the cockpit: a wonderful blend of functionality and
clean lines, in the sign of elegance that comes from tradition and is
enriched with progress.
And it is in the track of this tradition that ranks the Aeronautica Militare
collection created by Memphis Belle, which faithfully reproduces the
classic forms of the watch of the aviator: a large range of models
characterized by a mechanical hand-wound, automatic and quartz
movement, forming a single reference to classicism, with a large cahs
equiped by dials that stand high visibility large hands and numbered
indices.
A memory to the glorious history of Aeronautica Militare, a tribute to
the values represented through watches that express precisely these
qualities, from the care the technology contents to precision, from the
respect for its noble past with to its excellent performances, that have
always distinguished our Aeronautica MiIitare department.

WATCH CHARATERISTICS Standard ISO 6425 *
A dive watch must, by definition, allow an immersion to a depth of at
least 100 meters (330 feet). In addition, it must fully comfort to the
NIHS 92-11 standard (ISO 6425) criteria, relatively to luminosity, shock
resistance, anti-magnetism and strength of the strap.
The requirements are:
- The presence of a time control device
- Impact resistance, to magnetic fields, to the external pressure, and
to seawater
- The presence of a time preselection device
- Night brightness (time indication must be readable in the dark at a
distance of 25 cm)
- The placing of a mark indicating membership in the category of diving
watches
The validation of the ISO standard requires the overcoming of the
following compliance tests:
- Tests of reliability: the watch must be adapted to dive to a depth of
30 cm or to an immersion of the period of 50 consecutive hours
- Stress tests: the watch should bear 125% of the nominal pressure,
and it must be able to endure a perpendicular pressure on the
buttons and the crown.
- Condensation tests: the watch, previously heated until the
temperature of 45 degrees, should not have traces of condensation
due to the application on the surface of a drop of super-cold water.
- Thermal shock test: the watch, immersed alternately for periods of
10 minutes before in hot water (40 ° C) then in cold water (5 ° C),
and again in hot water, must not lose the tight, must not show traces
of condensation
- Leakage test: the watch must withstand a rating pressure of 125%
for a period of 2 hours
ERGAL 7075 **
7075 aircraft aluminum, trade name, “ERGAL”, is an alloy of aluminum

The AERONAUTICA MILITARE is one of the four armed forces of the Italian State; with the ESERCITO ITALIANO, the
MARINA MILITARE and the CARABINIERI is the defence instrument of the Country, which is the device that provides a
security framework in Italy and abroad, it is essential for the peaceful development of the life of every day, in accordance
with the principles of freedom, democracy, the absolute protection of the rights and dignity of the individual, which are the
connotative foundations of our national identity.
The AERONAUTICA MILITARE has as main task to defend the Italian airspace violations through prevention and neutralization
of possible hazards from the sky; but not only: it also has the task of providing support to peace missions abroad, in
humanitarian missions and provide for the rescue in the air. As you can readily guess, this mandate is difficult, especially
in a period of instability like the current one, in which terrorism has dramatically shown that it can strike with varied and
imaginative tragically tecniques of attack. Our air defense system has, however, adapted to the times, becoming in recent
years, more effective and flexible even with the advanced technology assistance and a good organization, indeed the artthecnology of which AERONAUTICA MILITARE is not only a spectator but it is always vital and challenging supplier.
On the other hand, in the aeronautical and military flight, Italy has always occupied an important place in the world since the
early twentieth century the flight, by a heavier-than-air vehicle, has been touted, offering all man the opportunity of a new
challenge. The first and essential flight attempt from Wright brothers, December 17, 1903, the progress in aviation and in
airplain military use is inextricably linked to the genius and inventiveness of Italians.
For example, it is italian the first use of the aircraft for combat: in 1911 during the war in Libya; the first major solo and in
flock transflights were also Italian.
The values of chivalry of aerial hunting was found in Italy a wide distribution: during World War I, the aviation was already
able to field a team of airmen enviable for the skills of audacity and bravery.
We can not forget Francesco Baracca, Silvio Scaroni, Pier Piccio, Ruffo di Calabria, to name only the most famous,
at the time so famous as the today’s television stars. Are names that, along with others, formed the 91 ° Squadriglia,
appropriately named “Squadriglia D’ASSI”.

political choices, which in these pages is neither possible and desirable to explain, our records were shining and beautiful
in reality connoted to our environment, but they were unable to translate into the necessary and possible impulse for the
development of aviation technology applied to “every day” transportation.
In any case, in this adventurous and controversial time laid the foundations of Italian aviation tradition and culture that has
become the heritage of the Country and every citizen.
For over ninety years, the AERONAUTICA MILITARE planes flying overhead throughout the world.
Aircraft of each specialty with features and advanced technology solutions, piloted by men who have brought their
contribution in strong color, sometimes tragic, in the exciting plot of the story and the aeronautical progress, woven day
after day with large companies but also with everyday actions, only apparently “negligible”.
What to keep in mind is that the today’s tasks, organization, personnel and aircraft of AERONAUTICA MILITARE are the
result of a defence tool evolution that has adapted to the time, that followed step by step the evolution of Italy, that since
the postwar period to date, has won a place in the concert of the most developed and advanced nations in the world.
The AERONAUTICA MILITARE is now an organization that expresses with other armed forces and other government
institutions the level of international ambition of Italy, said that the will of a civilized, democratic, peaceful to defend against
every possible infringement the values of freedom and of civil progress, the ideas and people free flows.
