working position for any physique.
– The driver is protected from vibrations which could damage
his health by the
– resiliently mounted drive unit
– rubber mounting for driver’s compartment
– damped seat, adjustable to the driver’s weight.
Electrics.
The modern electrical system works digitally. The exchange
of information between electrical assemblies, e.g. between
the drive controller and the cockpit, is achieved using the
CAN bus system already used successfully in road vehicles.
The number of cables and plug connectors is reduced in
comparison with the previous system and the reliability
increased. In addition to this, the ease with which additional
electrical equipment can be fitted is greatly enhanced.
Driver’s compartment.
Constant research and development have decisively improved
the driver’s compartment in the R 70:
– The cockpit has an LCD display plus a pre-selection facility
for the drive characteristics. The driver can select the most
suitable acceleration or braking and travel speeds from five
pre-set options. Simple changes to the software allow the
drive parameters to be adjusted to suit the application
conditions and the turnover of goods.
– Foot pedals arranged as they are in a car.* No familiarisation
needed.
– The driving characteristics of the R 70 allow the truck to be
held on a gradient or on uneven roadways without touching
the hand or foot brakes. This means, for example, less
damage when loading or unloading lorries.
– Roomy foot well with inclined floor plate and non-slip rubber
matting.
– Automotive style hand brake is fitted to the right of the
driver’s seat.
– Operation is made simpler and easier for the driver because
driving and braking are regulated with just the drive pedal.
– Adjustable steering column plus longitudinal and rake
adjustment of the seat provide an extremely comfortable
Mast.
STILL clear view masts in Telescopic, HiLo and Triplex designs
for every application:
– Telescopic: The mast suitable for most applications.
Economical mast design. The hoist chains are run in
protective guide rails. This prevents noise and increases
chain life.
– HiLo: For high stacking under low ceilings. Utilises the
space right up to the roof.
– Triplex: For applications with low doorways and greater
stacking heights. Utilises the space right up to the roof.
– Fork carriage: Completely redesigned for this truck, gives a
clear view onto the load being picked up, thanks to its
optimised profiles. The hydraulic hoses for attachments are
run in the dead visibility area of the mast sections – with no
hose reels – for wear-free operation.
Steering.
The free moving, fully hydraulic power steering provides great
manoeuvrability and thus a high turn round of goods.
Overhead guard.
The overhead guard is available in different designs so that
the R 70 is adaptable to the widest variety of applications and
driver requirements. A cab can be easily retro-fitted to the
version of the R 70 with a roof cover.
Safety.
The STILL clear view mast and good all round visibility give
the driver the best security against running into objects.
The new R 70 complies with all applicable EC safety
requirements and regulations. It thus carries the “CE” symbol.
Quality.
All forklift trucks from STILL comply with the ISO 9001 quality
standard. They are carefully constructed and manufactured.
The materials used are checked to stringent standards.
* available with twin pedal control if required.

R 70 16 20 c 11 e 05/05 TD Subject to technical modifications.
– The service brake is a maintenance-free, multiple disc brake
which runs in an oil bath and is thus free of wear. The truck
is silent in operation and will never need new brake linings.
– The multiple disc brake is encapsulated to protect it from
dirt and water.
– Re-adjustment is a thing of the past.
– Thanks to the maintenance-free, silent, multiple disc brake,
the normal servicing costs for brakes are done away with.
This means that overall maintenance costs on the R 70-20
compact are reduced by up to 30%.

Drive.
The engine powers a generator which in turn provides current
to the drive motor via an electronic speed and power regulator.
This electric drive has the following advantages:
– The truck holds the speed set by the foot pedal. It makes
no difference whether it is travelling up hill or down. This
makes for safe driving and simplifies operation.
– Because the travel speed is controlled independently of the
lift speed, fast hoisting and slow driving (inching) can take
place at the same time without special equipment. This is
completely free of wear, saves on operating costs and
simplifies operation.
– Wear free braking down to a standstill and holding the truck
in position when at rest is achieved through the drive. Even
when the floor is far from level, the R 70 will remain
stationary until the drive pedal is depressed. Holding the
truck with the brake pedal is not necessary. This simplicity
of operation reduces strain on the driver, who can
concentrate fully on positioning the fork tips or the load.
– A higher turn round of goods and greater safety are benefits
of the STILL drive unit with electronic speed and
capacity in kg
In accordance with VDI guidelines 2198, this specification applies to the standard model only.
Alternative tyres, mast types, ancillary equipment, etc. could result in different values.

acceleration control. At any time the driver can adjust the
driving characteristics to suit changing load or application
conditions, or to satisfy safety requirements, e.g. for the
transport of pallets of drinks.
– Resilient engine mountings mean that no vibrations are
transmitted to the truck.
– The inherent qualities of electric drive: high reliability, long
life and low maintenance costs.

– resiliently mounted drive unit

R 70 20 30 I 11 e 05/05 TD Subject to technical modifications.
– Diesel-electric drives with ASM technology have a very high
level of availability and are suitable for severe applications
by virtue of the enclosed drive unit and a greatly reduced
number of moving mechanical parts. There is no hydraulic
or mechanical transmission present.
– The benefit of this type of drive lies in completely smooth
and efficient acceleration regardless of the load or external
temperature.
– Using one of 5 drive programs the driver can sensitively
adjust the driving characteristics to different transport
requirements at any time whilst travelling. This increases
both throughput and safety.
– The driver can accelerate and brake with the drive pedal, in
addition to which the R 70 will hold the speed set by the
drive pedal. This means that operation is simplified.
– Fast hoisting and slow driving (inching) can take place at

Drive.
The R 70 features STILL’s ASM diesel-electric drive technology
– comprising an encapsulated 3-phase asynchronous traction
motor, which gives the customer many benefits:
– Diesel-electric drives are particularly economical for
many reasons
– The fuel itself is optimally utilised even when the diesel
engine is operating under partial load conditions. This
means particularly good consumption figures.
– Maintenance costs are reduced: the engine always runs at
the optimal speed to give the required torque output with
minimal wear; also, the ASM drive is torque output with
minimal wear.
– Wear free braking to a standstill is achieved through the drive,
as is holding the truck in position when at rest. Even when
the floor is sloping or uneven, the R 70 will remain stationary
as long as the driver does not depress the drive pedal.
Holding it with the brake pedal is not necessary. This
simplification of operation takes the strain off the driver and
allows him to concentrate on positioning the fork tips or the load.
– Plugging without tyre wear is possible thanks to the electric
drive controller.
– The R 70 is friendly to the environment thanks to a diesel
engine which always runs within its optimum torque range.
Emissions are reduced to a minimum.

R 70 Technical Data.
Service Brake.
The service brake is a maintenance free multiple disc brake
which runs in an oil bath and is thus free of wear. It will never
need new brake linings and is also silent in operation.
– The multiple disc brake is encapsulated to protect it from
dirt and water.
– Readjustments are a thing of the past.
– The maintenance free, silent, multiple disc brake does away
with the servicing costs common to other brakes, which
constitute up to 30% of the overall maintenance costs of
a truck.
Electrics.
The state-of-the-art electrical system works digitally. The
exchange of information between electrical assemblies, e.g.
between the drive controller and the cockpit, is achieved
using the CAN bus system already used successfully in many
roadgoing vehicles. The number of cables and plug
connectors is reduced in comparison to the previous system
and the reliability is increased. In addition to this, easier and
more effective servicing is possible using computer diagnosis.
Driver’s Compartment.
Constant research and development have decisively improved
the driver’s compartment in the R 70:
– The cockpit has an LCD display and pre-selection facility for
the drive characteristics. The driver can select the best
acceleration and braking characteristics, as well as travel
speeds, from 5 pre-set options. Other adjustments can be
made to the drive parameters to suit the application
conditions and the turn round of goods by simply altering
the software.
– Foot pedals arranged as they are in a car*. No familiarisation
needed.
– Roomy foot well with inclined foot plate and non-slip
rubber matting.
– Adjustable steering column and longitudinal and rake
adjustment of the seat provide an extremely comfortable
working position for any physique.
R 70 Technical Data.
– The driver is protected from vibrations potentially hazardous
to health by:
– the resiliently mounted drive unit
– the driver’s compartment fitted to the truck frame
with resilient rubber mounts
– the hydraulically damped seat, adjustable to the
driver’s weight.

Mast.
STILL clear view masts in Telescopic, HiLo and Triplex designs
for every application:
– Telescopic: The mast suitable for most applications.
Economical mast design. The hoist chains are run in
protective guide rails. This prevents noise and increases
chain life.
– HiLo: For high stacking under low ceilings. Utilises the
space right up to the roof.
– Triplex: For applications with low doorways and greater
stacking heights. Utilises the space right up to the roof.
– Fork carriage: Completely redesigned for this truck, gives a
clear view onto the load being picked up, thanks to its
optimised profiles. The hydraulic hoses for attachments are
run in the dead visibility area of the mast sections – with
no hose reels – for wear-free operation.
Steering.
The light, fully hydraulic power steering provides great
manoeuvrability and thus a high turn round of goods.
Overhead Guard.
So that the R 70 is adaptable to the widest variety of
applications and driver requirements, the overhead guard is
available in different designs. Retro-fitting a cab to the R 70
is possible with ease when the truck is already fitted with a
roof cover.

– Fast hoisting and slow driving (inching) can take place at
the same time without special equipment because the travel
speed is controlled independently of the lift speed. This is
completely free of wear, saves on operating costs and
simplifies operation.
– The driving characteristics of the R 70 allow the truck to be
held on a gradient or on uneven roadways without touching
the hand or foot brakes.

Drive.
The generator coupled to the engine generates current and
feeds the drive motor through an electronic speed and power
regulator.
The drive has the following advantages:
– The truck constantly holds the speed set by the foot pedal
regardless of gradient. This makes for safe driving and
implifies operation.
– The travel speed is controlled independently of the lift
speed. Therefore fast hoisting and slow driving (inching) can
take place at the same time without special equipment.
This is completely free of wear, saves on operating costs
and simplifies operation.

R 70 Technical Data.
– Wear free braking is achieved through the drive system:
both to a standstill and then holding the truck in position.
Even on a gradient, the R 70 will remain stationary until the
drive pedal is depressed – holding it with the brake pedal is
not necessary. This simplified operation takes the pressure
off the driver when positioning the forks or the load.
– The driver can electronically adjust the performance
characteristics at any time to suit the job in hand. Thus, he
can adapt his truck to all working conditions and thereby
achieve maximum productivity.
– Resilient engine mounts prevent vibrations being
transmitted through the truck to the driver.
– The R 70 enjoys the high reliability, long life and low
maintenance costs of an electric drive.
– The service brake is a maintenance-free multi-disc brake
which runs in an oil bath and is both wear free and silent in
operation. New brake linings will never be needed.
– The multi-disc brake is encapsulated to protect it from dirt
and water.
– Readjustments are a thing of the past.
– The maintenance-free, silent multi-disc brake does away
with the servicing costs common to other brakes, which
constitute up to 30% of the overall maintenance costs.
Electrics.
The digital electrical system allows simple adaptation to
altered operating conditions. The exchange of information
between electrical assemblies, e.g. between the drive
controller and the cockpit, is achieved using the CAN bus
system already used successfully in other types of vehicle.
The number of cables and plug connectors is reduced in
comparison to the previous system and thus reliability is
increased.
Driver’s compartment.
Constant research and development have decisively improved
the driver’s compartment in the R 70:
– The cockpit has an LCD display and a facility for the driver
to select from a range of pre-set drive performance levels.
He can select the most suitable acceleration or braking and
travel speeds from 5 pre-set options. Further adjustments
of the drive parameters to suit the application conditions
can be made by simply altering the software.
– Automotive style pedal arrangement*, no driver learning curve.
– Roomy footwell with inclined floor plate and non-slip rubber
matting.
– Automotive style hand brake to the right of the driver’s seat.
– Drive and braking regulated by the drive pedal position
make it simple and easy for the driver.
– Adjustable steering column plus reach and rake adjustment
for the seat provide an extremely comfortable working
position for any physique.
– The driver is protected from vibrations which could damage
his health by the
– resiliently mounted drive unit
– rubber mounting for driver’s compartment
– hydraulically damped seat, adjustable to the driver’s
weight.

Mast.
STILL clear view masts in Telescopic, HiLo and Triplex designs
for every application:
– Telescopic: the mast suitable for most applications.
Economical mast design. The hoist chains are run in
protective guide rails. This prevents noise and increases
chain life.
– HiLo: for high stacking under low ceilings. Utilises the
space right up to the roof.
– Triplex: for applications with low doorways and greater
stacking heights. Utilises the space right up to the roof.
– Fork carriage: Completely redesigned for this truck, gives a
clear view onto the load being picked up, thanks to its
optimised profiles.
Steering.
Light, fully hydraulic power steering provides great
manoeuvrability and thus a high throughput of goods. A single
hydraulic pump supplies the hoist and steering systems.
Hydraulic oil for the steering is diverted from the general
hydraulic circuit by a priority valve.
Overhead guard.
The overhead guard is available in different designs so that
the R 70 can be adapted to a wide range of applications and
driver requirements. When the roof-cover version overhead
guard is specified, a cab can be fitted with ease.
Safety.
The STILL clear view mast and good all round visibility ensure
the highest possible safety levels.
The new R 70 complies with all applicable EC safety
requirements and regulations. It thus carries the “CE”
symbol.
Quality.
All forklift trucks from STILL comply with the ISO 9001 quality
standard. They are carefully constructed and manufactured.
The materials used are checked to stringent standards.
* available with twin pedal control if required

Engine.
Water cooled four cylinder DEUTZ engine features a specially
designed low rotation fuel injection system to give high fuel
economy returns with low exhaust emissions.
As an option, particle filters offering 96% efficiency can be
fitted to prevent the emission of soot particles.
Internal or external regeneration is available, depending on
the application.
Mast.
STILL clear view masts in telescopic, HiLo and triplex designs
are available to suit every application:
– Telescopic: cost-effective design, suitable for most
applications.
– HiLo: for high stacking under low ceilings; uses space
right up to the roof.
– Triplex: for applications with low doorways and greater
stacking heights; uses space right up to the roof.
Nested I-beam mast sections with integral hoist cylinders and
in-line rear mounted lift chains give the slimmest mast
section and thus the best clear visibility. Hydraulic hoses for
attachments are run in the dead visibility area of the mast
sections – with no hose reels – for wear-free operation.
Truck Frame.
The sturdy, torsionally rigid 10 mm thick steel frame is firmly
bolted to the cast counterweight. The frame is fully enclosed
and thus prevents noise being amplified and protects the
drive unit assembly from the ingress of dirt. Additional
bracing is provided by the floor plate.

Driver’s compartment.
Constant research and development have decisively improved
the driver’s compartment in the R 70:
– Foot pedals arranged as they are in a car need no familiarisation (twin pedal control is available as an option).
– Drive, acceleration and braking regulated by just one pedal
means simpler operation and less fatigue for the driver.
– Adjustable seating column and correctly aligned seating
position provide an extremely comfortable working position
for a driver of any physique.
– Inherently superior performance enhances driver enjoyment
– The driver is protected from vibrations, which can be
damaging to health, by:
– resilient drive unit mountings
– spring-mounted isolation from the chassis for the
driver’s compartment
– hydraulically damped seat, adjustable for the driver’s
weight.
– The STILL clear view mast allied to excellent all-round
visibility gives the driver maximum security against the
likelihood of collision with people or objects.
– high levels of stability enable fast and smooth negotiation
of bends.
Steering.
– Light, fully powered hydraulic steering gives exceptional
manoeuvrability for a faster turn round of goods. A single
hydraulic pump supplies the hoist and steering systems.
Hydraulic oil for steering is diverted from the general
hydraulic circuit by a priority valve.

R 70 35 45 07 e 05/05 TD Subject to technical modifications.
The generator coupled to the engine generates current and
feeds the drive motor through an electronic speed and power
regulator. The drive has the following advantages:
– The truck holds the speed set by the foot pedal regardless
of direction of travel and gradient. This makes for safe
driving and simpler operation.
– Because travel and lift speeds are controlled independently,
fast hoisting and slow driving (inching) can be performed
simultaneously without special equipment or undue driver
skill. This operation is wear-free, saves on operating costs
and simplifies operation.
– Wear-free braking down to a standstill is achieved through
the drive, which holds the truck in position when at rest. As
long as the pedal is not depressed, the R 70 will remain
stationary. Even on a slight gradient, holding it with the
brake is not necessary. This simplicity of operation makes it
easier – and safer – for the driver, who can concentrate on
positioning the fork tips and the load.
– Driving characteristics are set by the driver by means of a
dashboard mounted control. Five positions vary the
response from fast to slow – fast acceleration and strong
braking for maximum performance can be switched down
through five settings to gentle acceleration and braking for
handling delicate or sensitive goods. Thus the R 70 is
readily adaptable to all working conditions – a benefit
exclusive to STILL’s unique drive and control system.
– Electric drive gives proven reliability, long component life
and low maintenance costs.

R 70 Technical Data.
Drive.

Drive.
The generator coupled to the engine generates current and feeds
the electric drive motor through an electronic speed and power
regulator.
The drive has the following advantages:
– The truck constantly holds the travel speed set by the foot pedal.
It makes no difference whether it’s going up hill or down, for safer
driving and simplified operation.
– The travel speed is controlled independently of the lift speed.
Therefore fast hoisting and slow driving (inching) can take place
at the same time without special equipment or undue driver skill.
This is completely free of wear, saves on operating costs and
simplifies operation.
– The driver can adjust the driving characteristics to changing load
or application conditions or to suit safety requirements at any
time, e.g. for the transport of pallets of drinks. This gives a higher
turnover of goods with greater safety.
– High reliability, long life and low maintenance costs.
Engine.
– The driver is protected from vibrations which could damage his
health, by:
– resiliently mounted drive unit,
– rubber mounting for driver’s compartment ,
– hydraulically damped seat, adjustable to the driver’s weight.
– Foot pedals arranged as they are in a car*. No driver learning
curve.
– Wear free braking is achieved through the drive system: both
to a standstill and then holding the truck in position. Even on a
gradient, the R 70 will remain stationary until the drive pedal is
depressed – holding it with the brake pedal is not necessary.
This simplified operation takes the pressure off the driver when
positioning the forks or the load.
Mast.
STILL clear view masts of Telescopic and Triplex design:
Nested I-beam mast sections with integral hoist cylinders and
in-line rear mounted lift chains give the slimmest possible mast
section for the clearest visibility. Other designs on request.
Turbocharged, water cooled, four cylinder DEUTZ engine. With a
special injection process for improved fuel consumption and lower
exhaust contaminants.
Optional particulate filters prevent the emission of nearly all soot
particles. A choice of internal and external regeneration is available
depending on the truck application.
Steering.
Electrics.
Overhead guard.
The modern electrical system works digitally. The exchange of
information between electrical assemblies e.g. between the drive
controller and the cockpit is achieved using the CAN bus system
already used successfully in road vehicles. The number of cables
and plug connectors is reduced and the reliability increased. In
addition to this it is easy to implement variants to the electrical
equipment.
The overhead guard is available in different designs so that the R
70 can be adapted to a wide range of individual applications and
driver requirements. Retro-fitting a cab to the R 70 can be done
with ease.
Driver’s compartment.
Constant research and development have benefited the driver’s
compartment in the R 70:
– Low, wide step for greater safety on entry and exit.
– The cockpit has an LCD display and a pre-selection facility for
the drive characteristics by the driver. He can select the best
acceleration or braking and travel speeds for himself from 5 preset options. Other adjustments to the drive parameters to suit the
application conditions and the turnover of goods can be made by
simple changes to the software.
– The modern driving characteristics of the R 70 allow the truck to
be held on a gradient or uneven roadway without touching the
hand or foot brakes.
– Roomy foot well with inclined floor plate and non-slip rubber
matting.
– Operation made simpler and easier for the driver because he can
drive and brake using just the drive pedal.
– Automotive style hand brake to the right of the driver’s seat.
– Adjustable steering column and longitudinal and rake adjustment
of the seat provide an extremely comfortable working position for
any physique.
Light, fully hydraulic servo-steering provides great manoeuvrability
and thus a high throughput of goods. A single hydraulic pump
supplies the hoist and steering systems. Hydraulic oil for the
steering is diverted from the general hydraulic circuit by a priority
valve. This reduces fuel consumption.
Safety.
The R 70 complies with all applicable EC safety standards and
carries the CE symbol.
*available with dual pedal control if required.
