WHO ARE THEY? - BIOGRAPHY
Santo Machango is a project that
started in Barcelona a few years
after the two former singers of
Area 62 moved from The Canary
Islands to the Catalan city. Not
long after that, they form The
Bares Band, the band’s preceding
embryonic project to perform in
small local clubs. During their
first years they alternate the
electric show with the unplugged
format with which they receive
several prizes in specialized
contests.
After a few changes in the
lineup, in 2012 they decide to
rename the band to Santo Machango
and record their first album
“Dopamina” produced by Tomy Perez
at Marc Parrot’s studios.
The album helps the band expand their
popularity around Spain and abroad.
After numerous successful shows they
gain greater visibility in the media
and a reputation for carrying out an
explosive, wild live act full of
smiles and sweat. Adding to the
particularity of having two singers,
the band also incorporates a
saxophonist. At their last concert in
Barcelona, the press starts talking
about the long queues in the street
for seeing a band that until then had
been considered underground. The live
show gets stronger and stronger.
The band sets up their own company
MotherFunky Events and joins the
catalog of international booking
agencies Let the Music play, and La
Vida Loca (France) which give the
band greater international momentum.
After over 100 shows for
Dopamina Santo Machango go into
the studio again to record their
second album MOJO published by
Kasba Music in 2015 which
consolidates the band as one of
the most well renown acts in the
funk-rock scene. Major Spanish
funk artists like LA FUNDACION
TONY MANERO and O’FUNK’ILLO
collaborate with the recording.
At the beginning of the MOJO
tour the band land in Germany
for the first time to perform
successfully at several
festivals. It is then when the
term STREET FUNK starts to be
used to define the band’s
musical style.

The band has also participated in
various events like El Disconcert
addressed at disabled people.
They have also been frequently
invited to FESTIVAL ESPERANZAH in
Barcelona and Belgium which is one of
the most significant European
references for Global Sustainability
and Solidarity Economy.
The project Rockola, run by Leo,
singer from the band Che Sudaka,
also included Santo Machango in its
yearly cd compilation which seeks to
unite and promote different cultures
around the world.

get together to start up an explosive
live act with a fresh, urban sound.
A stream of energy and groove capable
of awakening hidden feelings and
unleashing strong hip shakes.
The music makes its way through stories
talking about near protagonists, and
personal experiences with a positive
and enthusiastic touch.
