Some of our students at our Centre themselves come from dysfunctional homes and know the effects of domestic violence, unjust treatment towards women and children in the family. The chain of abuse needs to be broken and ended. An opportunity was created for students at our Centre of Learning through various forms of creative acting, song and dance. Hereisashortre, lectionwrittenbyoneof ourmalestudents: Another male student expressed through a monologue his importance of having a mother, He showed his appreciation to his mother by setting a table where they both enjoyed the food prepared and each other’s company. After dinner he played music and asked his mother for a dance. He thanked God for his mother and ended his dance with the words, “Mother dear, thank you for giving me life, I love you” She embraced him lovingly with gratitude in her heart. Mothers, sisters, we love you. We are sorry for hurting you, paining you, blaming you. You deserve to be treated with respect, care and protection. Enough is enough, I care about you, and I love you. You gave birth to me, you cared for me, and you taught me right from wrong, Wheredidwegowrong? S ongs of hope were sung by our young women as they raised their voices to the heavens asking God to heal all the women and children abused and silenced. Together with the educators all were invited to stand and make a pledge/commitment to stop abusing all women and children. All of us are created in God’s image. Someone who is not like me is also created in God’s image. All human beings will want to feel they matter. Every one of us belongs to God, male and female. God found us very good. Let us continue to be people of goodness as we rise up and say ‘enough is enough.’ Prayerforthewholeearthby:H.Hasselbalch O God let there be peace, goodness and care in every part of the world. Let billions of human beings cooperate to create a future full of hope for their children and grandchildren. Let us truly live in peace and harmony with the Earth and one another. This excellent presentation showed short vignettes ofpeopleofdifferentages, races and life situations in every daylifecircumstances.Itillustrated how every day life is where we can meet God and deepenourrelationship.Inthe discussion that followed what ismeantbya“spirituallife”becameclearer. The participants of the Day of Retreat listening to the explanation of Sr. Juliana Devoy (Standing 3rd from left) In Hong Kong it is quite common for organizations to have an annual day of retreat for staff or key personnel. However what is meant by “retreat” is generally a review ofoperatingprocedures, activities like team building, visioning, etc. When we approached our Good Shepherd Residential Services Board of Directors about having a day of retreat therewasaninterestingdiscussion that followed. Our architectsaidshehopedtherewould be something “spiritual” to nourish her spiritual life, our lawyer said, “What do you meanbyspirituallife?” Oneofthesistersontheboard tried to do the impossible and giveabriefanswertothisquestion.Ourbankmanagerandhis wife who belong to a Catholic couplesgroupandhaveexperience in making retreats supportedtherequestofthearchitect. Most but not all of our board members are Catholic andhaveofferedtheirdedicated services for a number of years. They are very familiar with our spirit and charism and provide invaluable help becauseoftheirvariedprofessional expertise. But organizingaday’sretreat,a“3irst”for usandalsoforthem, wasquite a bit of a challenge. How to strike a balance between somethingspiritualandsomething relating to theirparticularroleinouragency?Howto give them an experience they would 3ind worthwhile and that non-Catholic members couldalsorelateto? The venue chosen, a beautiful school compound that had trees and 3lowers, provided justtherightatmosphere. The school was the alma mater of the doctor on our board and he was so happy to have us theretoappreciatethehistory oftheplace.Webegantheday with an inspiring video entitled “The Seven Circles of GSN264 The next part of the program wasaPowerPointpresentation onthehistoryofourCongregationwithaspecialfocusontwo signi3icant lay persons – Count Augustin de Neuville and MadamGenevieveD’Andigne–who played such an important role as con3idantes and counselors of St. Mary Euphrasia.
