The Mambo set another record for race registration in 2016 with 1,531 10k runners, over 800 15k participants and 260 1 mile fun runners! The event was staged from the North Boulevard Town Square and Galvez Plaza in downtown Baton Rouge. 17 states were represented at the Mambo this year, including California, Michigan and Massachusetts. Baton Rouge runners claimed the first three spots on both the male and female side in the Mambo 10k. The 2016 male champion was Pablo Rivero (35:40) followed by Joshua Andrews (36:55) and Eric Powers (37:09). The Mambo 10k female champion was Kara Marlatt (40:17) followed by Andrea Linck (41:40) and Stephanie Crews (43:20). The third annual Mambo 15k was won by William Fell of Baton Rouge (54:49) with Ondrej Blaha of New Orleans in second (57:20) and Lenny Samuel of Prairieville in third (57:43). Baton Rouge resident Linn Fink (1:02:39) was the male masters champion and Patrick Riggins (1:06:46) of Morgan City was the male grand¬masters champion. On the ladies side, 51 year old Simonetta Piergintili of Wilmington, MA took the 15k crown (1:01:26) with Rebecca Tucker (1:03:51) finishing second. Tucker also finished second in the 2015 Mambo 15k. Erin Oswalt (1:04:12), the 2015 Mambo 15k female winner, finished third. Pamela Gaillard of Moreauville, LA repeated as the 15k female masters champion (1:09:34, 6th overall) with Laura Yeager of Broussard taking the female grandmasters (1:15:09). As of June 1, below are the 11 tournaments that have been hosted at Oak Villa in 2015, bringing a total of 480 teams to the complex.
