Rapid Railway Network Tunis Phase I Rapid Railway Network Tunis - Phase I Project The realization of a modern network of urban rail transport in Grand Tunis, the greater metropolitan area of Tunis, is part of the strategic choice for the development of an efficient public transport system. The Contractor for the Rapid Railway Network Phase I project: a consortium of Colas Rail, Siemens and Somatra-Get; Total amount of the contract: 145 M€; Colas Rail's share: 86 M€ share of the contract includes track, electrification, power supplies, surveillance and data collection systems, depot equipment and systems integration. Project Key Information Works: First phase of Rapid Railway Network includes two lines having a common central section between Tunis City Barcelone and Saida Manuba stations. Line D: Tunis City Barcelone to Gobaa. Line E: Tunis City Barcelone to Sidi Hassine - Bougatfa. Atelier Depot at Sidi Fathallah. Outcomes Meet strong travel demand in key corridors. Improve traffic flow in order to optimize energy consumption, reduce pollution and protect public spaces. Develop a multimodal transport system through the development of multimodal interchange stations and deterrent parking to encourage drivers to use the public transport. ISAF involvement in the project Rapid Railway Network, Tunis Technical Specifications and Design for Overhead Contact Line Project data: Line D = 11,5 Km; Line E = 6,4 Km + Atelier Depot Siddi Fathallah; Total of 14 railway stations. ISAF’s Scope: Technical Specifications and Design for Overhead Contact Line; Power supply and mounting diagrams for OCL. Catenary design parameters Catenary electrified under 2x25 kV 50 Hz; Catenary-type V200 STI; V200 STI catenary allows the flow of multi pantographs trains to the speed 140 km/h up to 200 km/h; Local conditions (underpass tunnel structure or Road Bridge, bridge) imposes variation in height of contact wire on either side of compliant structures with the requirements of CCTP and EN 50119; The supports are HEA or HEB beams made by hot galvanized steel; All of the catenary supports and metal structures is connected through a cable of protection; The reliability of the V200 STI catenary keeps in time the level of quality required for this project with minimal maintenance. Catenary equipment A copper alloy carrier cable (bronze) of 65mm², with a conductivity of 60% stretched to a tension of 12kN; A contact wire in Copper 107 mm², with a conductivity of 98% stretched to a tension of 12kN; A feeder "negative" aluminum-steel cable 288mm²; Aerial protection cable made of aluminum-steel 93.3mm²; Mounting the negative feeder will be suspended with a glass suspension chain; Each bracket is constituted by a galvanized steel tube secured to an insulator. Isolators are fixed to the brackets by stainless steel brackets Rigid gantries are installed in turnout areas and in the stations where fail to establish independent mast for each track. They consist of two vertical supports on which connection is made under a self-supporting beam which are attached chairs for the equipment of the central pathways. Main Challenges The main challenges of this project were determined by the using of three types of catenary: For the main lines: Catenary-type V200 STI designed for speed until 200 km/h used; For the Depot: Simplified contact line. This solution was imposed due to the depot configuration, with a large number of lines and ramifications, but also due to the low costs of construction and maintenance. For the maintenance and repair workshop: Rigid and retractable catenary. This solution was used to ensure the parking of the trains with electric traction and by disconnecting the contact line and by retraction of it ensuring clearances required to carry out maintenance and repair works safe conditions. Retractable catenary HSL Bretagne – Pays de la Loire HSL Bretagne-Pays de la Loire The HSL Bretagne-Pays de la Loire is a highspeed rail line under construction, running between Connerré (near Le Mans) and CessonSévigné (near Rennes), in France. Colas Rail is the contractor for catenary works and ISAF is participating at this project with two teams, totalizing 14 workers, for installing works and with design works. Project Key Figures Works: 181 km new line (362 km of catenary); 44 km connections to existing lines; 7 cut-and-cover tunnels; 5 overpass; 10 viaducts. Budget: All project: 3.3 B€; Catenary Project: 76 M€. Outcomes: Commercial speed: 320 km/h; Less than 1h30 between Paris and Rennes. Key Figures – Catenary Project Main Materials: 10,000 foundations and poles; 760 km of aluminum/steel conductor; 527 km of bronze cable. Working rate: 40 poles foundation per day; 1,200 meters unwinding of cables per day. Key Figures – Catenary Project The Staff: 1 design office with ten designers; 1 team of 20 people for the supervision of project; 2 site managers; 10 team managers; about 130 workers. The work bases: 1 works base in Saint-Berthevin; 1 work base in Sablé-sur-Sarthe; 1 workshop in Vaiges. ISAF involvement in HSL Bretagne-Pays de la Loire Project Design for Overhead Contact Line Project data: V350STI overhead line type; 60 km of overhead line (analyzed sections); 30 overpasses. ISAF’s Scope: Drawing up of OHL mounting plans of interface with overpasses in compliance with input data (overpasses plans, layout plans) and characteristics of V350STI overhead line; Calculation/verification of insulating distance between cables (messenger, feeder) and overpasses components, according with requirements imposed by technical specification of overhead line type. Catenary design parameters Catenary-type V350 STI; V350 STI catenary allows the flow of trains to the speed up to 320 km/h; Catenary electrified under 2x25 kV 50 Hz; The supports are HEA or HEB beams made of hot galvanized steel. All of the catenary supports and metal structures is connected through a cable of protection; Catenary equipment A copper alloy carrier cable (bronze) of 116 mm², with a conductivity of 60% stretched to a tension of 20kN; A contact wire in Copper alloyed 150 mm², with a conductivity of 98% stretched to a tension of 26kN; A feeder "negative" aluminum-steel cable 228mm²; Aerial protection cable made of aluminum-steel 93.3mm²; Mounting the negative feeder will be suspended with a glass suspension chain. Main Challenges A real challenge for our design team was not only to design the catenary for a speed of 320 km /h but also to design the interfaces of the catenary with the other systems: civil works, power supply, signaling so that any failure of these systems to not affect the catenary.
