It is located from the South of Montelimar (26) to the North of Orange (84), close to the network formed by motorways (A7 and A8), railways (TGV Avignon and Valence, TER Montélimar, Orange, Bollène) and airport (Valencia, Avignon, Nîmes, Montpellier, Marseille). This region is a focus of tourist migration from Northern Europe to the Mediterranean, Spain and Italy. The winter rigors are free of moisture: cold is dry and easily bearable when one practices an outdoor activity wearing a windbreaker wax. Summer is hot and dry. The mistral is a dominant powerful Northerly wind. It takes birth in depressions of the North Sea or in the Golf in Genoa. The plain of Valencia, strongly heated compared with neighboring landforms (Alps and Massif central), form a call for air. The mistral strength builds up to Orange. Then, arriving in areas of more homogeneous temperature, it decreases rapidly. 4 City of the Wind 190 days with medium/strong wind each year Days with average wind speed of more than 20 knots Nombre de jours avec vent moyen ≥ 35 km/h (Rafales ≥ 45 km/h) janv. fev. mars avr. mai juin juil. août sept. oct. nov. 2015 22 22 15 13 20 16 13 10 22 17 2014 13 17 17 20 22 15 20 14 16 13 2013 21 20 15 15 17 18 12 15 17 2012 20 28 18 18 14 14 15 15 17 2011 18 17 11 16 17 16 16 11 13 2010 19 17 18 9 18 13 17 17 14 2009 15 23 20 13 12 19 17 18 15 2008 19 6 22 20 8 15 11 18 14 Moyenne 18 19 17 16 16 16 15 15 somme 147 150 136 124 128 126 121 118 Source : Armée de l ’Air BA 115 Orange dec. At a crossroads of various sports such as skiing, surfing, windsurfing, snowboarding and kite, kitesurfing is an easy-to-learn-discipline. Within a week, students can practice properly and be quasi-autonomous. • On the seaside, Kitesurfing is only allowed at offshore (300 meters from the beach and up to a mile from the shore), as well as within areas specifically dedicated. • Its practice is prohibited within swimming areas. During summer season, practicing kitesurfing therefore appears complicated when combined with swimming activities. It is usually possible only from 6 pm. Hence its developments inland. 9 City of the Wind Situated at the heart of Provence Une heure Le Pont du Gard 1 400 000 ½ heure ¼ d’heure Montélimar 130 000 La Ferme aux Crocodiles 300 000 La Grotte Chauvet XXX Moins d’une heure Château de Grignan 160 000 Arènes de Nîmes 320 00 Le Palais des Papes Avignon 560 00 Vaison la Romaine City of the Wind Le Ventoux 1 000 000 + Arles 300 000 Théâtre Antique d’Orange 200 000 Sources : CDT / CRT ; Visiteurs/an 10 City of the Wind 7,6 millions inhabitants and 22 millions tourists/year Within 2 hours Habitants Bouches du Rhône : Vaucluse : Ardèche : Drôme : Rhône : Loire : Hérault : Gard : Tourisme en million de séjours/an 1 980 000 550 000 320 000 500 000 1 700 000 750 000 1 100 000 720 000 7 620 000 Source CDT ou CRT Bouches du Rhône : Vaucluse : 24,2 Hérault : Gard : Drôme : Ardèche : 50,6 37,2 20,0 7,8 16,1 155,9* Soit environ 22 millions de visiteurs dont 5,5 millions d’étrangers (25%) * Hors Rhône-Alpes à 93,0 hors sports hiver et Drôme 11 City of the Wind Easy access to 900 000 pupils Elèves ≤ 11 ans Elèves 11 à 18 ans 1er Cycle 2ème Cycle Total Gard Hérault Vaucluse Ardèche Drome BdR 73 105 57 31 52 202 36 52 38 27 41 177 109 157 95 58 93 379 Total 520 371 891 en Milliers Sources: Académies Aix-Marseille, Montpellier, Grenoble * Sans l’agglomération lyonnaise 12 City of the Wind Total Attendance Forecast clientèle cible Jours/an vent disponibles vacances adultes, WE, ponts, jours fériés, RTT… Jours Nb Sessions Nb Nb participants passages activité/an par jour par session par jour Nb Passages par an 150 55% 82,5 4 50 200 16500 adultes : séminaires… 2 jours/semaine * 38 semaines/an 76 55% 41,8 2 30 60 2508 individuels vacances scolaires (hors WE) 18 semaines/an * 5 jours 90 55% 49,5 4 50 200 9900 centre aéré - parascolaire 50 semaines/an * 5 jours 250 55% 137,5 1 20 20 2750 pédagogique scolaire 40 semaines/an * 3 jours 120 55% 66 1 25 25 1650 classes vertes 4 mois*4 semaines*7 jours 112 55% 61,6 2 25 50 3080 touristes étrangers 6 mois/an *7 jours/semaine 180 55% 99 4 18 25 100 9900 46288 With approximately 50 000 users per year and an average of more than 2 accompanying persons per user, The resort should see an attendance of 150 000 to 200 000 in total per year. 13 City of the Wind Eole Farm Services • • • • • • • • Restaurant (Brasserie, Regional products…) Snacks, Cafés… Ferme Eole® Boutique Kindergarden Hairdressers/ Beauty/Spa Hotels Cycling and horse riding Camping, tennis 14 City of the Wind Eole Farm Local Products • Exhibition and sale of local products • Market reserved for local producers • Specialities of aromatic plants (lavander…), black truffles, wines, olive oils… • Demonstration of Beekeeping • Gastronomic / cooking lessons • Cultivating rare local plants 15 City of the Wind Learning in a Communiversity • Exhibition of research and demonstrators of renewable energies. • Business Incubator on sport, energy, ecology… • Extra curriculum activities for school children: Ecology and renewable energies… • Children’s Interactive Museum • Conference centre, auditorium… In liaison with from Gainesville (GA) - USA 16 Eole Association • President: Roland Icard roland@ferme-eole.com + 33 4 90 37 33 38 Retired from Gendarmerie Nationale.
