PARENT NEWSLETTER Chinese International School Manila November 11, 2011 Volume 5, Issue Number 14 Message from the Headmaster: Keith P. Jones Dear Parents We have some very busy weeks ahead. In less than 5 weeks the students will perform this year’s Christmas production – The Wiz. Most of the seats in the spectacular ResortsWorld theater have already been sold, so if you don’t yet have yours booked, you will need to do so soon. At the beginning of next week photos of the cast for the show’s souvenir program will be taken. These will be in full costume and this is sure to generate lots of excitement. Coming up next week is this month’s Counselor Coffee morning. This is a great opportunity for you to share in a free-flowing discussion about the development of children and what their futures might hold after they leave school. Please note this in your diaries. At the end of this month, Tuesday, 29th November, will be an early release day. Preschool will be dismissed at 11.40pm and the rest of the school will be able to leave school at midday. The following day, Wednesday, 30th November, is Bonifacio Day and this is a national holiday. On Thursday, 1st December, the children will return to school. For the Upper School this will be the first day of their end of semester examinations. Examinations will finish on Tuesday, 6th December. 灰 Huī Ashes; dust; lime 灰色 huī sè grey 灰心 huī xīn disheartened 灰尘 huī chén dust 29 November, Early Release Day 30 November, Bonifacio Day (No Classes) 8 December, Taguig City Day (No Classes) 16 December, Start of Christmas Break Page 2 PARENT NEWSLETTER Chinese International School Manila Date Snack (Served with Beverage) Lunch (Served with Rice and Dessert) November 14 Monday “Ramen Day” Egg Salad Sandwich Chicken Parmigiana Vegetable Polonaise Tropical Fruit Salad November 15 Tuesday “Pasta Day” Pancake with Strawberry Syrup Cajun Roast Pork with Mushroom Gravy Buttered Peas, Corn and Carrots Macaroons November 16 Wednesday “Quesadilla Day” Cheese Cake Swedish Meatballs Vegetable Sticks with Thousand Island Dressing Fruited Gelatin November 17 Thursday “Mongolian Day” Chicken Sotanghon Soup with Hard Boiled Egg Sweet and Sour Fish Chinese Noodles Brownies November 18 Friday “Street Food Day” Nachos Chicken Ala Max Lumpia Hubad Buco Pandan Concept and Artwork: Marlon James Maclean Page 3 PARENT NEWSLETTER Chinese International School Manila An invitation to visit the Australian Higher Education Showcase with the following university representatives: • • • • • • • • • Australian Catholic University Bond University Central Queensland University Deakin University Griffith University Holmesglen Institute of TAFE The University of Sydney University of Western Sydney University of Wollongong www.acu.edu.au www.bond.edu.au www.cqu.edu.au www.deakin.edu.au www.griffith.edu.au www.holmesglen.edu.au www.sydney.edu.au www.uws.edu.au www.uow.edu.au CISM Parents - We cordially invite you to the next Counselor Coffee with Ms. Meyeth Angat and Ms. Sonali Hutchison. Our Korean friends sold their country’s delicious food and delicacies during United Nations Day and the proceeds of which was given to the PTA. Thank you so much! ** Lupang Hinirang is the national anthem of the Philippines. Its music was composed in 1898 by Julian Felipe in Spanish, with lyrics adapted from the poem Filipinas, written by a young poet-soldier named Jose Palma in 1899.** Source: Wikipilipinas.org Page 6 PARENT NEWSLETTER Chinese International School Manila Panatang Makabayan Iniibig ko ang Pilipinas, aking Lupang Sinilangan Tahanan ng aking lahi, kinukupkop ako at tinutulungan Upang maging malakas, masipag, at marangal. Iaalay ko ang aking buhay, pangarap at pagsisikap sa bansang Pilipinas Source: Filipinobiz.ph Page 7 PARENT NEWSLETTER Chinese International School Manila Page 8 PARENT NEWSLETTER Chinese International School Manila Page 9 PARENT NEWSLETTER Chinese International School Manila Page 10 PARENT NEWSLETTER Chinese International School Manila Page 11 PARENT NEWSLETTER Chinese International School Manila Below anre examples of the work of our Grade 6 students who have zero knowledge in Pilipino.
