A Message from the President and Principal
Anne O’Malley ‘75 and Mary Kay Nickels
Dear Alumnae, Parents and Friends of Peace,
Thanks to your generosity Queen of Peace High School
promotes the pursuit of the highest academic achievement by our students. We are pleased to report the
outstanding accomplishments of the Class of 2010. The
Class of 2010 garnered over 7.2 million dollars in scholarships towards the college education.
Queen of Peace High School relies on the economic
support for financial aid, scholarships and operating
expenses for the high school. Currently, the tuition amount sustains only 70
percent of the cost of educating a student. The commitment of the Board and
the Administration is to provide sound fiscal stewardship while enhancing the
academic programs of the school.
Through the 1:1 laptop program, our students have equal access to the world
of technology. While leveling the playing field for all students, the access and
technology literacy give our graduates a measurable edge for college success.
We as a new administration of Queen of Peace High School strive to embrace
the traditions and culture of the school in the Dominican of Sinsinawa heritage.
This year we are celebrating 48 years of excellence and mission. Thank you for
your support of the mission and generosity of time, talent and treasure.
Peace,
Anne O’Malley ‘75

supporting all-girls education and our programs.

$QQXDO5HSRUW A Message from the Congregation Representative
Sr. Elizabeth Dunn, O.P.
Dear Members of the Queen of Peace Community,
Since September 1962 Queen of Peace High School has been blessed for 48 years by
dedicated men and women who intentionally and selflessly promote Queen of Peace’s identity
as a Catholic school. A vibrant faith community rooted in prayer and guided by the Dominican
values of Truth, Justice, Compassion, Partnership and Community affirm the efforts of all who
are dedicated and committed to the school. Of the first year of the school’s existence it was
written: “Generous expressions of school spirit united the first group of students and faculty. “
What a tribute to all who have generously given of their gifts through the years to keep this Spirit alive!
This year we warmly welcomed new leadership at Queen of Peace - President, Anne O’Malley, and Principal,
Mary Kay Nickels. Faculty, staff, students, parents, alumnae, friends, benefactors, and members of the Board of
Directors work with leadership to continue the glorious legacy and rich heritage of preserving an education
which inspires academic excellence. “The vision still has its time, presses on to fulfillment, and will not disappoint
(Habakkuk 2:3).”
Queen of Peace challenges each of us to be authentic peacemakers. We work side by side in a school committed
to creating right relationships with one another and with all of creation. How significant it is to be partners in
a Catholic high school in which the school environment speaks of peace and justice in a world so burdened by
violence.
Mission Statement of Queen of Peace
Queen of Peace, a Catholic Dominican of Sinsinawa college preparatory high school, educates and empowers
diverse young women in an environment that inspires academic excellence. The Queen of Peace community
promotes collaboration, moral and ethical leadership, service and a passion for peace and justice.
The Dominican Sisters of Sinsinawa assure you of their prayers, gratitude and admiration for all of the great work
you have done and continue to do for Queen of Peace. We know that through your generous efforts, “Providence
Can Provide. Providence Did Provide. Providence Will Provide (Prayer of the Dominican Sisters of Sinsinawa).” We
pray that this year, and into the future, all of us will be united in discovering new ways to live faithfully into the
mystery of NOW with hope, love and peace - a peace that is based on our faithfulness to God and our commitment to living the beatitudes each and every day of our lives. A Catholic education for our young women of
Peace will forever transform their lives into peacebuilders, truth seekers and joyful preachers of the gospel.
With deepest gratitude,

$QQXDO5HSRUW From the Queen of Peace Board of Directors
Donna Gailus ‘77, Chairwoman
Dear Members of the Queen of Peace Community,
On behalf of the Board of Directors, I thank each of you for your loyalty to Queen of Peace. Through
Peace’s strong college-preparatory curriculum, values-driven community and dynamic cuttingedge technology, our students are empowered to believe they can accomplish anything. This is
a tribute to the dedicated faculty and staff, but also to you for selflessly ensuring that these girls
have the best education possible as they set the standard in the classroom, on the field and in their
communities. With your continued support, the Board of Directors is diligently working to keep
our tuition rates within reach for all of the young women who wish to experience Queen of Peace.
The Peace Community has so much to celebrate because of your generosity. This year, in addition to the funds raised
for Peace’s robust programs, we awarded 199 students financial aid and scholarships in the amount of $365,884. In
order for Peace’s tradition to thrive, it is imperative that we continue to help our families with financial assistance during this downturn in the economy.
To assist with the need for increased scholarship dollars, the Class Challenge Appeal was instituted in fall 2009. More
than 400 alumnae donated to this special appeal after receiving a letter from a former classmate. The message was
simple – assist students financially so they, too, could join the ranks as proud Peace graduates. Our community is
honored that so many alum answered this call to continue our legacy for future generations.
As a Peace alum, I believe that our young Women of Peace are an investment worth supporting. Together, as a community, we can ensure an even brighter future for Queen of Peace.
Gratefully,
Donna Gailus
“When I shadowed here, I felt like I belonged at Peace. Everybody is equal and you can be yourself without being judged.
The academics, atmosphere and excellent facilities make Peace
a great school.”
- Kathleen Miller, sophomore, Incarnation
“The way we use technology here has enhanced how I organize
my time and made me more efficient in gathering information
from resource materials. This has been a great advantage, and I
am so appreciative.”

Giving Back to the Community
In the tradition of the Dominicans of Sinsinawa, faith, service and
justice are integrated into daily life at Peace. Each young woman’s
desire to be an agent of transformation is evident in her commitment
to serve the call to “teach as Jesus”. Peace students are devoted to
community service and put their faith into action during the 2009-10
school year in the following ways:
• Early each fall, Queen of Peace holds a Service Fair and invites representatives from various local service agencies to explain to students
the opportunities and needs of each of their organizations.
• Queen of Peace partnered with Alexian Brothers AIDS Ministry
(ABAM) for the AIDS Walk sponsored by the AIDS Foundation of Chicago. Peace raised $1,700 for the organization.
• Peace students, faculty, staff and parents “adopted” 29 families from
St. James Parish in Chicago and worked together, in the true spirit of
community, to gift the items necessary to make the families’ Christmas
a bit merrier.
• Law and Politics classes participated in “How to Make the World a Better Place” by visiting retirement homes, making desserts for residents
of the Ronald McDonald House, bowling with the Garden Center and
sponsoring a Read-a-Thon with St. Mary Star of the Sea.
• The Hunger and Poverty Task Force held Hunger Awareness Week
activities, including collecting money for Oxfam and Catholic Relief
Services and participating in a fast and soup sale.
• Participating in a Blood Drive
• The entire student body completed more than 14,500 hours of
community service and volunteered their time at places such as the
Chicago Food Depository, the supper kitchen at St. Blasé Parish and
the Chicago Portage National Historic Site.
• Through the Volley for the Cure game with Mother McAuley, Queen of
Peace raised money for Breast Cancer research.
• Planting trees on Earth Day
• Walking in the Beverly Breast Cancer Walk

Commemoratives
Peace’s Commemorative Program offers an opportunity to honor family members and friends while making
a gift to Queen of Peace High School. Commemorative cards are used for many occasions - birthdays,
anniversaries, retirements, congratulations, graduations, get well wishes or memorial remembrances.
We are grateful to those individuals who participate in Peace’s Commemorative Program.
