Striving for excellence Sports Academy Exeter College Sports Academy students participate in a comprehensive training schedule which has been designed to improve their respective sport. Our detailed training programmes will allow you to develop your technical, tactical, mental and physical attributes to give you the tools to reach your potential. We have experienced lecturers and coaches who possess a wide range of coaching qualifications as well as sport specific understanding. You will have the opportunity to benefit between 4 and 7 hours per week of training and fixtures. 1 Focus on studies Students all study a full time academic or vocational programme and have the Sports Academy programme as an additional element in their college timetable. Being successful on your chosen pathway both academically and within your chosen sport is vitally important. This is achieved through a firm ethos of attendance, punctuality and completion of all academic work whilst participating fully in the enjoyment of the sports provision. All learners receive are tutored through their programme and are encouraged to represent the college. Please be aware although there is flexibility in the Sports Academy programme some course choices may affect access to some elements of provision. 2 Focus Sports � � � � � � � � � � � � � Men’s Rugby Women’s Rugby Men’s Basketball Netball Men’s Football Women’s Football Men’s Hockey Women’s Hockey Tennis (Development and Performance) Martial Arts - all disciplines Golf Futsal ACES (Advanced conditioning for Elite Performers) Selection For our team sports Academies, applicants undertake performance trials which are held in May/June prior to commencing studies at Exeter College, where assessment is made on skills, fitness, decision-making, position specific strengths, conditioned game scenarios, overall attitude and work ethic. For ACES, Golf and MMA we hold meetings to outline the programme and ask for coach and teacher references to support applications. All students must successfully achieve the necessary entry requirements for a full-time academic or vocational course at the College and be between 16 and 19 years of age. All applying students must complete a Players Information Form which can be downloaded from the website: www.exe-coll.ac.uk/1618/Academies Sport References can come in the form of a contact number or email address. 3 4 Sports Bursary Exeter College Sport, Leisure and Tourism Faculty is very proud to be able to offer students who gain International selection a bursary of up to £250. This offer is awarded annually to students who show evidence of their respective international selection. This scheme is aimed at supporting students with any additional costs that they may experience in order to help them reach their potential. You must be competing to an international standard when studying at the college in order to be eligible. Fees There are Sports Academy fees which are paid annually and vary dependent upon which academy is selected. Central Fitness All Sports Academy students have a membership to Exeter College Central Fitness included in their academy fees. Our state of the art Fitness Centre on our Victoria House campus creates an excellent environment to support sports performers, featuring cardio and resistance machines, free weights, spinning studio, lifting platform and an array of specialist conditioning and testing apparatus.
