FACTS & TIPS
RAW DOG FOOD DIET BENEFITS
D
og lovers and general pet lovers alike pay close attention
to what comes into their beloved pets’ mouths. What you
feed your dog is basically the most important thing you
should be mindful of when owning one.
Dogs are naturally and biologically built to be carnivores.
Today’s domesticated dogs are direct descendants of wolves, which are
biologically designed to eat raw meat and perhaps some vegetables.
Although sled dogs and racing greyhounds have been fed raw food for
a very long time, the idea to introduce the same kind of diet for household dogs is proposed only around the past decade.
In 1993, Ian Billinghurst, an Australian veterinarian suggested that it
may be best for domesticated dogs to be reintroduced to their ancestral ways - the raw food diet. Basically, this dog diet consists of mainly
raw meat, bones, and pieces of vegetables. He also questioned the nutritional value of commercial dog foods; stating that they are unnatural
and may be harmful for dogs. Since then, his idea was called the BARF

diet which stands for either Bones and Raw Food or Biologically Appropriate Raw Food.
4. Improved weight management
5. Cleaner and healthier teeth
6. Better sleep and energy
7. Reduced allergic reactions
There are also numerous reports of the success of raw food diet in treating chronic illnesses in dogs. This may be due to the commercial food
that the dog has been eating prior to being introduced to this alternative diet.
tions. However, it poses a threat for the dog’s human owners. The bacteria from these foods will be excreted in the dog’s stools, but it can easily
be transferred to carpets and other household furniture as well.
In a nutritional comparison, commercial dog foods contain an unnecessarily high amount of carbohydrates at around 46-74% -- around four
times the amount of carbohydrates present in raw foods (14%). In the
other hand, the raw food diet contained high protein and fat value of
56% and 25-30% respectively, while commercial dog foods offered only
an average of around 18-32% and 8-22%.
With the higher percentage of essential nutrients, the alternative diet
has shown a number of substantiated benefits such as:
While the above facts are accepted by the FDA and many mainstream
veterinarians, the raw food diet for dogs does not come without its own
down sides.
While rich in protein and fat, the raw food diet does not offer a lot
when it comes to other vitamins and minerals. This is because dogs
are known to digest raw vegetables poorly. Although this problem can
be addressed by lightly cooking the vegetables to aid in digestion, the
best way to make sure your dog is getting balanced nutrition is to consult a veterinarian for advice.
1. Healthier and shinier coats and skin
2. Smaller, firmer stools
3. Better digestion
First of all, raw meats are highly susceptible to being contaminated by
certain pathogens and other bacteria. Since a dog’s digestive system
shorter and highly acidic, they are highly resistant to such contamina-
Benefits of Raw Food Diet
Although modern day dog food is a convenient way to feed pets, evidence clearly indicates the nutritional deficit of kibble as compared to
raw food.
Negative Effects of Raw Food and How to Avoid Them
Other than being expensive, time consuming, and hard to sustain,
there are still many potential risks with this approach.
Although it can be threatening for young children, the elderly, and people with weakened immune systems, being exposed to these pathogen residues can easily be easily avoided by observing overall hygienic
practices.
This article is not a substitute for professional advice. If you are in any
doubt or have any concerns about the health of your dog you may wish
to consult with a professional for diagnosis and treatment at the earliest
opportunity.

HIP HOP RECORDING ARTIST
HIP HOP BULLY’S
TAX G
What’s good Tax G? It was nice to have you come out and shoot for
us. So where are you originally from?
I’m originally from Newark, New Jersey... Essex County... Vauxhall, pretty much around that area. I currently reside in Miami, Florida. Chasing
your dreams, you can’t stay in one place. You gotta move and groove,
and let your talents take your to where you gotta go.
What’s the vibe like in Florida for an artist coming from New Jersey? Are they receptive to you out there?
They f*#k with me eveywhere. Wherever I go I’m gonna be good. Getting out the Jersey environment for a little while was good for me. In
Miami, it’s just palm trees, cool breezes, and pretty women. That kind
of environment allows me to relax, and live upscale like I want to.
Now we’ve all heard the song “Bad Guy”, that you put out accusing
Fetty Wap of not only stealing your sound and style, but your look
as well. Tell our fans the situation between you and Fetty Wap.
Well, I look at it like this. I’ve been doing music, and I had a big name
in my area. If he was in the same area, it’s impossible for him to not
know his competition, which was me Tax G. So one day, I had a bunch
of people reaching out to me saying some guy is on the radio that
sounds just like me. A lot of my fans actually thought it was me. So I
listen to it, and the music has my same adlibs and my same sound, but
I still didn’t take it to serious yet. I was just proud that someone from
Jersey made, and was creating a movement for the state. It wasn’t until
he stitched some blonde dreads in his head, that made me say hold
up, this is going too far. So I made the track “Bad Guy” because it was
time for me expose this madness, and get the shine I deserve. Nobody
else should be profiting off of my sound and style but me.
Ok. Let’s talk about some of your new projects.
Aw man, I have a lot of new sh*t goin on. I have the “REAL ONE” single
on iTunes right now. I have a new project hosted by Cypher Sounds
and Drewski called “I’M ME”. That’s on iTunes as well. I also have a new
clothing line launching in the fall called ALIEN New York. So I might be
independent right now, but everything is moving in a major way.
22
Hip Hop has changed a whole lot. It started with records, tapes,
and cd’s. Now everything is digital. How do you feel about that?
Man i’ve been doing this since you had to put a little piece of tissue in
the top of the tapes and record using a kareoke machine. I’m not with
a the digital stuff right now. I still right my raps with a pen and a pad.
Has there been a bidding war over you yet. Have any major labels
reached out to you?
They reaching out, but they aren’t on the same page with me yet. I’m
trying to get real money. I don’t get excited until my mother and my
grandmother get a house. So I’m not budging off of these first few
offers.
So I know you are all over the place perfoming. How has that been
going for you? Talk about how the fans have been accepting you
as an artist?
Man I just performed on my birthday. I swear I held that microphone
out in front of me, and I could have just held it our there all day. There
is nothing that make me feel better than when my fans support me.
When you write something that you actually lived thru, and you hear
people reciting it, it’s just an incredible feeling.
At Bully Girl we always strive to give something positive back to
the youth, as well as the up and comers, interested in following in
your footsteps. So as an artist, what postive advice can you offer
someone who might be watching, and aspires to be in your shoes
one day?
The best advice I can offer is “I’m not a role model”. What I lived, you
don’t want to go through it. I lived a hard life. So I encourage people
to listen to music and hear my story, so they can avoid going thru the
things I did.
Thanks Bully Girl, for giving me this platform. “ohyeaee”!

“Great Book for Children”
I love Barbara Freeman’s book “Super Smart
Sugar.” It definitely in a very subtle way
attacks stereotypes by showing the kind
and loving side of a pit bull. Pit Bulls are
often seen in a very bad light, but Sugar
is seen in a fun and delightful light. This
shows that dogs react to the love and
positive attention that are shown at home.
She engages children to take a look at their
dogs in a different way and actually interact
with them more. Barbara has a very kind
way of engaging children. It is a good read
for them and keeps their interest.

“Add Fun to Reading Time”
This book by Barbara Freeman is one of a
kind. I read this book with kids. I watched
and they got to pick out smart qualities
that their puppy has. This really teaches
kids to recognize those great characteristics in not only animals but in themselves
and their peers. I would recommend this
to any family looking to add some fun into
reading time!

“Best Book Ever”
Love this book; I believe that this book is
appropriate for all ages. I’ve learned so
much about my dog and about pit bulls!
5 Star Review by Ashley Sims
“What an Awesome Read”
What an awesome read!!! I was able to read
this book with my daughters as well as our
new puppy. We found it intriguing, as we
were able to identify many of the “Smart”
characteristics in our own dog.

KENNELS - VA
KAHLERS
1ST BULLY KENNEL
State your name, and where your kennel is located.
We are Gary & Shirley Kahler of Kahler’s 1st Bully Kennels, located in
Gloucester, VA.
What type of dogs do you breed, and what inspired you to get
involved with that particular breed?
We breed American Bully’s. We first fell in love with the look of the
American Bully, but once you are around them, you will fall in with
love with their loyalty and temperament.
What type of diet do you keep your dogs on throughout the year?
We feed mostly kibble ( Grain Free & High Protein Blue Buffalo Wilderness), and have recently just started them on raw and a Sure Grow 100
Vitamin everyday.
What is your favorite bloodline?
Our favorite bloodlines are Razor Edge and Gottiline.
Tell the bully community about your new champion dog Diesel,
and how that all happened for you.
Oh WOW!!! We are still over excited about our boy Ch. Diezel. That
is a day we will never forget. It was our first show ever, so to have
him become Champion was the best feeling in the world. We were
introduced to Haile Selassie of H.D Bullyz by Levar of Bully Girl Magazine, and Haile agreed to handle Diezel in the ring. Diezel and Haile
connected right off, and it showed every time they came out the ring
with all the ribbons. Haile took our boy that has never been in a ring,
and by the end of the day he came out an ABKC XL CHAMPION. There
are no words for the gratitude we have for Haile. Diezel is now working
on becoming a Grand Champion, and a Dual Registry Champion.
What advice do you have for anyone looking to participate in the
bully shows?
The best advice we can give for you and your dog is to be patient.
Don’t be afraid to ask questions. We have met so many other breeders
and judges at the shows, that are more the happy to give you advice.
Since our first show we have even a bigger Bully family now.
Who do you look up to in the bully game, and why?
We look up to a few people. First Haile Selassie of H.D Bullyz for handling Diezel in the ring, we became family that day, and if we have any
questions, Haile has been there to help. Thank you Haile. We also look
64
up to Nathan Leemon, who we also met at one of the Bully shows, and
he also has taken time to mentor us. Last but not least, the guys that
got us started in the Bully game, Steven Pryor of Pryorboys Kennels,
and Desmond Thornton of One Stop Bullies.
Looking back at 2014, tell us about one of your most memorable
moments.
One of our most memorable moments is Diezel’s first production, he
produced his clones. He has future breeding’s coming up. However,
I think Diezel becoming Champion in his first show will be the most
memorable moment of our life time.
Describe how you would want things, in the bully Commuity, to be
10 years from now.
Ten years from now, we would like to see more XL’s in the Bully Community. Most of all, for the love of the Bully Breed, let’s all come together and share our knowledge with one another. As always, DON’T
HATE JUST APPRECAITE! We are all in it for the love of our Bully’s.
What separates your kennel from the competition?
Our kennel is family oriented, starting with a husband and wife team,
and extended to other family member’s ( Brianna, Hannah, and Robert). That helps make our kennel run smooth. Our kennel is family ran,
and we raise our Bully’s as family members, to produce more family
members.
What other hobbies or interests do you take part in?
We enjoy cooking and spending time with family.
What motto do you live by?
Our motto is and always will be “Family First”, and “Treat people the
way you want to be treated”.
What do you think of Bully Girl Magazine?
We love Bully Girl Magazine for the support they give to the Bully
Community. Not only does Bully Girl Magazine have the highest quality magazine, that promotes all the beautiful Bully breeds, but they also
have the best Bully Apparel. Thanks again Bully Girl Magazine for giving Kahler’s 1st Bully Kennels this great opportunity to brag about our
boy ABKC XL Champion Diezel. Much respect to Bully Girl Magazine
for the support you give us and the entire Bully Community.
