Invest Achaia Introduction Achaia is located at the heart ofWestem Greece and links our country to the Western Europe. Patras is a with a population of 210,000, the overall population in Achaia is 340,000. The region a rich historical and cultural going back to Greek mythology. Many ofthe Mycenaean and Roman periods have been discovered and are exhibited at various locations, including the Archaeological Museum of Patras. It is the crossroad between significant archaeological sites, as it is approximately J ~ 1.5 hour drive away fi:om Olympia, Delphi and Epidaurus. At the same time the region is also a significant religious destination, especially for visiting the cathedral of St. /\ndrew's, who was Jesus' first student Inside the church is the tomb ofSt Andrew and his head and pat1 of the cross on which he was crucified are exhibited. Today, several activities are activated in Achaia, including ng, logistics, services and tourism. The Industrial Region (VIPE), the Industrial Park (VIOP A) and the modern port of the city, which also serves as a gate to our country, play a prominent role. The University, together with the Technological Institute and the research institutes form the base for the development of innovation and know ledge transfer centres. The area's geographical layout and the magnificent natural environment make it ideal for several significant investments, as there is a perfect combination of mountains and seaside areas. Achaia still falls sh01i in terms of GDP and financial activities, hut at the same time it displays significant development opportunities. Moreover, the region is a category l target for support, the framework of attempting to promote convergence of the EU regions, in the upcoming programming period. The Aehaia Chamber has taken the initiative to put together investment opportunities and initiatives in the regions, already studied by several institutions and which await interest for utilization. These proposals will he constantly updated~ aiming to a fruitful outcome. Platon Marlafekas President of Chamber of A<.~haia Commerce Invest in Achaia INVESTMEN'T OPPORTUNITIES IN AC:HAlA 1. BENE.FITS OF ESTABLISHING A C.T.l.E. IN WESTERN GREECE The wider Western Greece Region has overcome the intense symptoms from the period de-industrialisation and has started to develop a "new industrial base'· and activities through knowledge intensive enterprise. 1. Patras University, Patras Technical Colleges and the Research Institutes in the region (4 in total) have developed, especially over the ]ast ten (1 0) years, Excellence teams that are constantly developing new Knowledge and Technology. 2. All of these institutions have displayed a recognised and prominent international image with significant research results and very good human resources. 3. Despite all thisl there is no platfonn no one organization Centre which provides the capacity to immediately and effectively use these results. 4. The area requires a Centre that deals with the transfer of knowledge from abroad to the wider region of Western Greece. THE GOALS OF THE \VESTERN GREECE C.T.I.E. 1. To establish and Develop Innovative-Technology companies and enterprises. 2. To develop a mechanism that rapidly converts "promised" results tl·om Research and Technological Development into "business activities". 3. To attract foreign investment for "smarf' high-tech sectors. To create Training Skills Centre for business executives. To participate in funded projects for the period 2014-20 under HORIZON 2020. It is estimated that more than 80 billion Euros will be allocated to innovation. 6. To establish structures for investing education and lifelong learning. 7. To establish Action groups for assessing and promoting Patents. 8. To develop and sell Instrumentation of Innovation and personality skills methods. After one ( 1) year the C.T.l.E. would be in a position to attract development programmes that would exceed one ( 1) million Euros with a direct profit for C.T.I.E. that exceeds 150,000 Euros. Invest in Achaia PROJECT DESCRIPTION The aim is to develop a Recreation and Entertainment Theme Park based upon the Carnival which \Vill also showcase and present institution and history the Patras Carnival. At the same time it is a destination for visitors and an occasion to increase tourism in the Patras Municipality. park will appeal to every age group by providing many choices for activities, entertainment, games, creative activities and training that is tailored to each age group. CONTENT The Patras Carnival Theme Park must satisfy the following conditions: The establishment of museum and exhibition areas that will present the history, aspects, dynamics and activities the Patras Carnival (exhibitions, screenings, interactive presentations, etc.). The transformation of areas with constructions that showcase the style of the Patras Carnival as reflected in the chariots and the other Carnival elements, which will be exhibits, as well as elements for decoration, games and activities. The establishment of an annual program of activities and events corresponding to the content of the carnival season, where visitors will also be able to participate in some of these activities (small parades, concerts, parties, performances, creative workshops for constmcting carnival ek~ments, masks, caps, gowns etc.) The establishment of recreational and playing areas (theatre, cinema, playgrounds, carousel, Luna parks, etc.) Hosting events agencies that are operating in the region in order to enhance the overall local culture and social status of the region. Provide recreational services to visitors, by operating restaurants, coffee shops, souvenirs and local product stores, info kiosks, commercial stores, hotels, etc. Achaia Chamber Commerce and Industry Invest in Achaia AREA The ideal development of the theme park requires the use of an area of many hectares. The area at the former Ladopoulos factory premises (suggested as the most likely scenario) is over 5 hectares and already belongs to the Patras Municipality. IN'FRASTRUCTURE- EXPERIENCE JVIANPO\VER The Patras Municipality possesses the services and manpower that is very experienced with the knowhow and specialization in organising the Patras CarnivaL The demands by such a large organization over a period of time, in terms of people participation and visitation have greatly increased and are successfully implemented every year. The prominent role in planning and implementing belongs to the Patras Carnival Public Benefit Municipal Enterprise and the Patras Municipality Carnival \Vorkshop; while a supporting role in organising the Electrical Lighting, Cleanliness, Landscaping & City Image and Public \Vorks Departmental services is played by the Cultural Organisation, Municipal Regional Theatre and other organisations. There are also other associations, professionals, individuals and volunteers that are actively pat1icipating in the region. All of the above resources with the unique knowledge, experience and determination are the platforn1 upon which the Patras Carnival is based and is the basis upon which the greater pat1 of the Theme Park's implementation and operation will be built and operated INVESTMENT BUDGET The maturity of the project requires a specific study that sets the standards for the creation of a Theme Carnival Park. The study will examine the potential sites and assess the estimated cost. This work is a prerequisite for fut1her exploring the financial tools for the project's construction.
