This 11.8 mile loop is not long but takes you off into the woods on old, wet, rough
twotrack and includes some steep climbing; allow 3 or 4 hours to cover the loop.
Begin at the Park and Ride lot across the street from Martha’s Diner on Rt 5 in
Coventry.
START/END
Martha’s Diner 585 Route 5, COVENTRY VT
1. Turn left onto Main St and follow it into the center of town.
2. At a monument bear right and right again on Heermanville Rd.
3. Climb steeply out of the village. Crest the hill and drop steeply down
to a bridge over the Black River.
4. Continue on to a right turn onto Linton Hill Road. Climb steeply
again and soon bear left onto Reservoir Road, a small twotrack, where
Linton Hill Rd turns sharply right.
5. Follow Reservoir road until it enters deep woods as a snowmobile
trail just beyond a camp driveway on your left. This is rough twotrack
and wet at times as it climbs steeply to a summit in a clearing where the
snowmobile trail branches to the right.
6. Stay straight and follow the wet track through the woods to the
northwest. At a tee, stay right even though the left looks wider. Continue
northwest until the track becomes a town road again and comes to a tee
with Poginy Hill Rd.
7. Turn left and follow Poginy Hill Rd for a mile until it dwindles to a
twotrack again at a small farm. Continue up through pastureland and
into the woods. The twotrack continues south through wet, level forest
and eventually emerges on the other side as Clark Mountain Rd.
8. Drop down into a hollow on Clark Mountain Rd and climb up the
other side to a tee where Clark Mountain goes right. Take the left fork
into a sugarbush onto the much smaller and sometimes rough Collins
Rd which becomes Poutre Rd.
9. Turn left on Currier Hill Rd, drop steeply down to another left onto
Back Coventry Rd. Continue northwest for several miles through a
recently built covered bridge and back into Coventry village.
This 15.8 mile loop begins in Greensboro village and takes you around Caspian
Lake, north on a small road through the home of Circus Smirkus and into East
Craftsbury village before looping around through the hill country and back to
Greensboro. Begin in the center of Greensboro village. There is parking at the town
beach on Beach Road, almost across the street from Willey’s store.
START/END
Willey’s Store 7 Breezy Avenue, GREENSBORO VT
1. Head south on the paved Breezy Ave. until at a ballfield take a right
turn onto Lakeshore Rd.
2. Follow this along the west shore of Caspian Lake until you reach a
four corners at Campbell’s Corner.
3. Pass straight through the intersection, going north on Richardson Rd.
which is a narrow and little travelled gravel road. Soon you will come
to an intersection with Circus Rd, summer base of Circus Smirkus.
4. Continue north, straight across Circus road onto tiny Whetstone
Brook Rd, little more than a twotrack. This will bring you out to the
pavement in the middle of the small viilage of East Craftsbury.
5. Turn right on the pavement and go southeast on the Craftsbury Rd
until you see Shadow Lake Rd on your left.
6. Turn east and follow Shadow Lake Rd up a hill past Cate Hill
Orchard.

Rocking Rock Rd. This will lead you east again, uphill and then south
through open fields,
8. At a fork stay left on Town Hwy 8 and follow this south for several
miles, staying right until you merge with Baker Hill Rd and descend into
Greensboro village.
