Wallonia is a welcoming, lively region. As one of Europe’s best preserved
natural areas, it holds a lot of surprising secrets. Its green surroundings
are extremely well suited for meetings and events under the caring eye
of mother nature, and the variety of outdoor activities is abundant.
As a meeting destination, Wallonia definitely
measures up to the rest of the country.
The province of Hainaut organizes some
of Belgium’s most renowned festivals and
boasts multiple beautiful art cities, where
a lot of former industrial sites have been
transformed into first-class meeting venues.
Namur, the region’s capital, is famed for its
beautiful citadel. Its rocky river valleys offer
a wide choice of sportive and team building
activities. Liège is riddled with historical
architecture and former monasteries,
and its sport events are known the world
over. Luxembourg is home to old castles,

Finally, Walloon Brabant offers a quiet

Mons 2015, European
capital of culture
The theme of this event is: ‘Mons, where
technology meets culture.’ It is a kind of
bridge between the patrimonial and cultural
history of the city and its development in
the making in the field of art and digital
technology. Just like the transit station
designed by the architect Santiago
Calatrava which connects the two sides
of Mons, Mons 2015 connects the city’s
heritage and its future development.

UNESCO World Heritage
Since July 1st, 2012 the 4 major Walloon
mine sites have been recognized as World
Heritage by UNESCO.
The Grand-Hornu, the Bois-du-Luc, the Bois
du Cazier and the Blegny mine are now
recognized Walloon heritage along with the
ship lifts of the Canal du Centre, the Walloon
belfries, the Cathedral of Our Lady of Tournai
and the Neolithic mines of Spiennes.
But that’s not all! Brussels and Wallonia offer
numerous sites and popular traditions which
are listed by UNESCO.

department of the Belgian Tourist Office. The
mission of the convention bureau doesn’t exist
of promoting Wallonia and Brussels on the
national and international market of business
tourism (MICE) alone, but it also makes
organising professional events in Wallonia and
Brussels easier and more accessible.

hat is a DMC?
A DMC (Destination Management
Company) or incoming agent offers a
wide range of products and services, to
meet the expectations and requirements
of your representatives. Most of these
services are logistical services: reception,
transportation, visits to the area,
excursions, hotel reservations, rental of the
meeting rooms, catering services, concept
of individual programs, organization of
thematic meetings and relaxation. The
Belgian legislation requires the DMC’s that
they have a license A, which is the same
license travel agents own.

hat is a PCO?
Een PCO (Professional Conference
Organiser) is a professional organizer
of congresses. He is both coordinator
and consultant. He is responsible for the
Iogistical, technical, administrative and
financial issues related to the organization
and preparation of business meetings.

in a diverse museum site!
Le Bois du Cazier
Many people still associate Hainaut with the coal mining industry. Le Bois du Cazier
is housed in the old colliery of Marcinelle and functions as a museum of Wallonia’s
industrial history. Guided tours, workshops and seminars take you on an educative and
playful tour through the many facets of Hainaut’s industry. In 2012 the Bois du Cazier
mining site was even listed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The most important
discovery to make in Le Bois du Cazier are the large rooms available for seminars,
conferences or banquets. There’s an auditorium for up to 150 people, a former machine
room for up to 600, forge rooms for up to 250 people and a meeting room for up to 50.
The Industrial Museum can be used for events for up to 200 people.
