Canadian plywood production is a
value added industry, employing
four times as many people
compared to the manufacture of
substitute wood-based panels
using the same number of logs.
• Canadian Pride
-From Mill to Market our commitment
to quality is marked on every panel.
Commitment to
Sustainable Forests
Plywood manufacturing in Canada
is an environmentally responsible
industry. Trees are harvested only
from managed sustainable forests
under strict government regulations.
For each tree harvested, 3 to 4
seedlings are replanted. Natural
bio-diversity
is maintained by
planting seedlings of over 20
coniferous and deciduous species.
• CANPLY Inspectors
-Perform over 160 mill audits/year
-Ensure that domestic and
international Standards are met
• Keeping a watchful eye
The plywood industry maintains a
vigilant stance to ensure that the
forests they harvest from remain
plentiful, vibrant and healthy.

Canadian Plywood is the
Choice of Builders Worldwide
Plywood for Timber
Frame Construction
Timber frame construction is
increasingly
used
for
cost
competitive, energy efficient,
comfortable, durable and high
quality residential, commercial and
industrial
building.
High
performance CANPLY EXTERIOR
plywood panels are perfectly
suited to timber frame construction
for walls, roofs and floors.
Plywood sheathing accelerates
construction time and makes a
major contribution to the overall
strength, racking resistance and
quality of timber frame buildings.
Floor Sheathing
The proven superior all-weather
performance of CANPLY EXTERIOR
plywood make it an excellent
structural covering for suspended
timber ground floors and for upper
story platform floors. Select or
Select-Tight Face grades of DFP
or CSP can be applied directly to
floor joists to form an ideal subfloor beneath linoleum, carpet, tiles
and wood block flooring. SelectTight Face grade is particularly
suitable for use under resilient
flooring, providing a smooth
surface where knotholes and
other surface imperfections have
been filled.
Tongue and groove panels are
particularly suitable for floor
sheathing as the interlocking joints
make blocking at unsupported
edges unnecessary. (For heavy
industrial or wheel loadings,
additional blocking of T&G joints
may be required.)
EASY T&G are new innovative
T&G panels from CANPLY
engineered to slip together easily
even in wet conditions. These
patented, specially profiled panels,
manufactured in DFP and CSP, in
thicknesses of 15.5 mm, 18.5 mm
and 20.5 mm help builders
sheathe floors faster than with
ordinary T&G panels. Plywood
span tables are available from
CANPLY. (For domestic floor
loading, plywood span tables can
be found in BS8103:Part 3.)
Roof and Wall
Sheathing
Sheathing grade DFP or CSP
plywood is recommended for roof
and wall sheathing. This unsanded
plywood grade is economical and
widely used in general construction
where a sanded surface is not
needed. Sheathing grade plywood
provides a solid base for roof and
exterior wall finishes. For pitched
roof sarking and for walls, the use
of 9.5 mm plywood spanning
supports spaced up to 600 mm on
centre is typical.
EASY T&G ROOF is manufactured
in DFP and CSP at a thickness of
12.5 mm. The specially designed
edge profile makes roof sheathing
particularly fast and easy.
The panels require no H-clips for
intermediate edge supports; the
T&G joint eliminates differential
deflection between adjoining
panels and provides an immediate
weather-tight covering. (For long
spans or heavy roof loads,
requiring thicker panels, the thicker
EASY T&G floor profile should be
substituted.)
Concrete Formwork
CANPLY EXTERIOR Plywood
for Concrete Formwork
Plywood is one of the world's most
widely used materials for the
construction of concrete forms
because it lends itself to all types
of formwork from the large and
complex to the small and simple.
Formwork materials are selected
on the basis of maximum overall
operation economy consistent with
safety and the quality of finish
desired. CANPLY EXTERIOR
Douglas Fir plywood more than
meets all these requirements.
CANPLY EXTERIOR DFP for
concrete forming is available edge
sealed, treated with chemical
release agents, in sanded and
unsanded grades, with special
constructions, and with phenolic
resin cellulose fibre overlays.
Sanded grades produce a smooth,
wood-grained finish valued by
many architects. Unsanded grades
are suitable for formwork where
the appearance of the concrete is
less important such as in subsurface foundations.
Overlays produce the highest
quality concrete finish. They
also help protect the plywood
from oil and wax, simplify
form stripping and extend
the service life of the
concrete forms.
C O F I F O R M and
COFIFORM PLUS are
special constructions of
DFP panels designed
specifically for use as
concrete formwork. These
panels are significantly stiffer
than standard constructions of
DFP in wet service conditions due
to the species and ply thickness
limitations during manufacture.
COFIFORM PLUS is the strongest
concrete forming panel manufactured
by CANPLY members.
• COFI FORM SP PLUS
-Premium panels made only with
high strength Douglas Fir veneers
with strict limits on face and cross
band thicknesses.
• Reusable Time and Again
-COFI FORM panels are 20% to 40%
stronger than similar thicknesses of
standard Douglas Fir plywood of the
same thickness and are designed for
faster pour rates.
Simply because it outperforms all substitute wood-based panels on the market today.
Plywood is a highly stable panel. When exposed to moisture or
high humidity, plywood is up to seven times more resistant to
thickness swell than substitute wood-based panels. Plywood also
returns to its original dimensions when it dries.
Plywood has over 50 years of proven service as a structural panel
for homes and construction and remains, according to surveys, the
panel of choice by home buyers, contractors, architects and
engineers.
Plywood is stronger than substitute wood-based panels in the four
important engineering strength properties of bending, tension,
compression and planar shear and plywood weighs up to 40% less
than substitute wood-based panels of equivalent thickness.
Plywood is manufactured from logs averaging 25 cm (10 inches) in
diameter from managed sustainable forests. 100% of the log is
utilized for either veneer, or by-products, such as 2x4 lumber,
landscaping ties or chips for pulp and paper. Nothing is wasted.
Plywood is a highly impact-resistant panel and continues to perform
even when wet.
Plywood manufacturing, because it is a value added process,
employs four times as many people compared to the manufacture
of substitute wood-based panels - using the same volume of logs.
