Back in 1984 husband Len Bosack and
his wife Sandy Lerner, both working for
Stanford University, wanted to email each
other from their respective offices located in
different buildings but were unable to due
to technological shortcomings. A technology
had to be invented to deal with disparate
local area protocols; and the result of solving their challenge was – the birth of the
multi-protocol router. Since then Cisco has
shaped the future of the Internet by creating
unprecedented value and opportunity for
our customers, employees, investors and
ecosystem partners and has become the
worldwide leader in networking – transforming how people connect, communicate
and collaborate.

Beer is an important part of German culture. There
are about 1,300 breweries in Germany – more than
in any other country – and German beer has an
excellent reputation for quality.
Carlsberg brands have been exported to Germany
for decades, so it was natural for the Group to gain
a foothold in the country. In 1988 Carlsberg took
over Hannen-Brauerei, which was an “Alt-Bier”
brewery in Mönchengladbach, and in 2004 we
acquired one of Germany’s leading breweries –
Holsten-Brauerei in Hamburg.
The history of Holsten-Brauerei is closely associated with that of Hamburg and Altona, where the
brewery was founded in 1879. From its early days,
the brewery has been an active player in licensed
production, both in other European countries and in
Africa and China.

of our time. Without a global strategy, appropriately implemented at local level, there
will be neither healthy social development

drivers are environmental issues and the
