1. Introduction
This manual is intended for users of the PhotoCam LCD. No specific prior knowledge
is needed to install and use this product.
If you have any questions after reading this manual, please contact one of the
Trust service centres. You will find information on the service centre nearest to
you at the back of this manual. You can also visit the Trust website
(www.trust.com) for support, comprehensive product information, drivers, and
FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions).
The following conventions have been used in this manual to indicate instructions:

Turn off the computer before connecting the product.
The example assumes that the letter “D” has been assigned to your CD-ROM station.

2. Safety
2.1
General
1.
Do not use this equipment in damp environments such as bathrooms, damp
basements, swimming pools, etc.
2.
Never insert objects into the openings on the outside of the device as you can
come into contact with live electrical components. This can cause fire or give
strong electrical shocks.
3.
Do not try to repair the equipment yourself.
4.
You should disconnect the power supply and have the equipment repaired by
qualified personnel if:
a) the cable or the plug is damaged or worn.
b) the equipment has come into contact with fluids.
c) the equipment has been dropped and/or the casing has been damaged.
5.
Do not connect or disconnect equipment while the computer is switched on, as
this can damage the equipment.
6.
Position the device so that its cables cannot be damaged.
2.2
Adapters
1.
Insert the adapter into a suitable outlet.
2.
The adapter is intended for use in Europe.
3.
Use the adapter only with the equipment it was supplied with. Never use a
different adapter with this equipment. Other uses, such as providing power for a
Walkman, can cause fire.
2.3
Batteries
1.
The batteries cannot be charged. Attempts to charge them are dangerous
because they can result in explosion.
2.
Do not throw the batteries into an open fire as the batteries can explode.
3.
Never pierce the batteries.
4.
Keep the batteries away from small children.
5.
Once the batteries are empty, inquire with your local authorities as to where you
can best dispose of them.

3. Installing TWAIN and Applications
In order to be able to use the camera, the software supplied in the package must be
installed. This is a once-only operation.
The camera is TWAIN compatible. You can use the camera in combination with
image processing programmes that support the TWAIN standard, e.g. Photo
Express.
1.
Insert the CD-ROM into your CD-ROM player.
2.
Click on ‘Run’ in the Start menu.
3.
Enter [D:\START.EXE] and click on ‘OK’. See figure 1.

Select the language you wish to use during installation. See figure 2.

Click on 'Next'. See figure 3.

Select the necessary applications in the window that pops up. Deactivate the
'Read Manual' option and click on 'Next'. See figure 5.

Click on 'Next'. The TWAIN driver and applications will now be installed. See

10. After the TWAIN driver has been installed, the window shown in figure 8 will pop
up. Click on 'OK' to complete the installation of the TWAIN driver.

You have now finished installing the TWAIN drive and applications. If you have a
modem you can register electronically following the installation of Ulead Photo
Express 2.0. To do so, see the manual accompanying the software (supplied on CDROM).

4. Camera Power Supply
4.1
Inserting the batteries
Insert the batteries into your camera as shown.

1.
Open the battery cover.
2.
Insert the batteries into the compartment as shown in Figure 23. You can also
read on the inside of the battery cover how to insert the batteries.
3.
Close the battery cover.
Note:
Inserting the batteries the wrong way round can cause damage to the
camera.
Note:
Always replace the batteries with an equivalent type (4x type AA).

4.2
Connecting to external power supply
In order to save the batteries you can also use the adapter supplied with the camera.
To connect the adapter, follow the instructions below.
Note:
The camera can become damaged if you use a different adapter than the
one supplied with the camera.

1.
Open the cover on the side of the camera. See figure 24.
2.
Connect the power supply adapter (E) connector (F) to connection (A) on the
camera. See figure 24.
3.
Insert the power supply adapter (E) into the wall socket.
Note:
The power supply adapter supplied with the camera may differ from the
one shown in figure 24.

5.1
Shooting pictures
Follow the instructions below. Also see figure 25.
1.
Press the on / off switch (I) to switch the camera on. You will hear 2 beeps and
the LED indicator (F) will first light up orange and then green after a few
seconds in order to indicate that the camera is ready for use.
2.
Locate the subject you wish to photograph in the viewfinder (M) or press button
(A) to view the subject via the LCD display (E).
3.
Press the shutter release (G) to record the subject. You will hear a beep. The
flash will go off automatically if necessary.
4.
The LED indicator (F) will start flashing once the picture has been placed in the
memory. If the LCD display (E) is on, you will see a blue image with the text
'Processing…'.
5.
You must wait at least 3 seconds before taking a new picture. If the memory is
full, you will hear 3 beeps when pressing the shutter release (G). See section
5.2 for more information.
6.
Press the MODE button (H) to view the last recorded picture in the LCD display
(E). The LED indicator (F) will turn orange. You can now view all pictures in the
memory using the selection buttons (C).
7.
When viewing the pictures in the memory, the total number of images in the
memory will be shown on the upper left-hand side of the LCD display (E). See
section 5.2 for more information.
8.
If you wish to take more pictures, press the MODE button (H) once again until
the LED indicator (F) turns green.
9.
You can take pictures at economic resolution (ECON), normal resolution (STD)
and fine resolution (HIGH). See section 5.2 on how to set this.
10. The camera will switch off automatically after 90 seconds if not used.
Note:
Keep the lens clean.
In order to take a good quality picture, the subject should be viewed through the
viewfinder for a number of seconds before taking the picture.

5.2
Menu Options
The PhotoCam LCD has numerous options that you can set. Follow the instructions
below for setting these options. Also see figure 25.
1.
Press the on / off switch (I) to switch the camera on.
2.
Press the LCD ON / OFF button (A) to switch on the LCD display (E).
3.
Press the MENU button (B). You will now see the function menu for the camera
mode. See the table below for the various options in this function menu.
4.
Use the selection buttons (C) to select the option you wish to change.
5.
Press the ENTER button (D) to set the option.

Press the MENU button (B) once again to switch off the function menu.

Press the MODE button (H) to set the camera to the playback mode. The LED
indicator (F) is now orange.
8.
Press the MENU button (B). You will now see the function menu for the
playback mode. See the table below for the various options in this function
menu.
9.
Use the selection buttons (C) to select the option you wish to change.
10. Press the ENTER button (D) to set the option.

5.3
Using a CF Memory Card
The PhotoCam LCD memory can be enlarged by using a 'Compact Flash' memory
card. To insert this card, follow the instructions below.
Note:
Do not use a CF card with a memory capacity of more than 32MB.

1.
Switch off the camera.
2.
Open the cover on the right-hand side of the camera. See figure 26.
3.
Insert the CF memory card into the slot.
The CF memory card is now ready for use.

6. Connecting to the Computer
The PhotoCam LCD can be connected to the computer in 2 ways: you can connect
the camera to your computer's serial port or the USB port. Follow the installation
instructions below.
Note:
Do not connect the camera to the serial port and USB port of the
computer simultaneously.
Tip:
Connect the camera to the adapter it was supplied with in order to save
the batteries.
6.1
Connecting to the serial port
1.
Switch off your system.
2.
Switch off the camera.
3.
Connect the serial cable (RS232) to connector D on the camera. See figure 24.
4.
Connect the other end of the serial cable to a free serial port on the computer.
5.
Start Windows.
6.
Switch on the camera and set the 'Auto-off' option in the function menu to 'No'.
See section 5.2.
The camera is now ready for use. See chapter 7 for using the camera in the
applications.
6.2
Connecting to the USB port
Note:
The USB connection on this camera only works with Windows 98 and
with Windows 95 OSR 2 with installed USB supplements.
1.
Start Windows.
2.
Switch off the camera.
3.
Connect the USB cable to connector B on the camera. See figure 24.
4.
Connect the other end of the USB cable to a free USB port on the computer.
5.
Insert the CD-ROM with drivers into your CD-ROM player.
6.
Switch on the camera and set the 'Auto-off' option in the function menu to 'No'.
See section 5.2.

An 'Unknown Device' will now be detected. Click on 'Next'. See figure 27.

8.
Have Windows carry out a search in a specific location. In Windows 94 indicate
[D:\Win95] as the path and [D:\Win98] in Windows 98. Press <Enter>.
9.
The driver for the ‘Trust PhotoCam LCD’ will be found. Click on 'Next'. See
figure 28. The driver will now be installed.

10.
Click on 'Finish' to complete the installation.
The camera is now ready for use. See chapter 7 for using the camera in the
applications.

7. Using the Applications
7.1
Ulead Photo Express 2.0
Ulead Photo Express 2.0 is a drawing and editing program with a wide range of
options. You can use this program to edit photographed images.
To set and use Photo Express, follow the instructions below.
Note:
The manual can be found on the CD-ROM supplied with the camera.
1.
Connect the camera to the computer. See chapter 6.
2.
Start Photo Express 2.0. The display shown in figure 29 will appear one time
only.
3.
Select ‘Digital camera’. You will see ‘Trust PhotoCam LCD’ in the window.
4.
Click on ‘OK’. See figure 29.

5.
Select ‘Get’ (A) and then ‘Camera’ (B) in the Photo Express main menu. See
figure 30.

6.
For ‘data source’ (C) select ‘Trust PhotoCam LCD’. See figure 30.
7.
Select ‘Open to workspace’ (D) to send the images to the application. See figure
30.
8.
Enter the type (JPEG for example) and name of the file in (E). See figure 30.
9.
Click on ‘Acquire’ (F). See figure 30. The TWAIN dialog box of the ‘Trust
PhotoCam LCD’ will pop up. The window shown in figure 31 will also pop up.

10. Click on ‘OK’. The window shown in figure 32 will pop up.

11. Tick the ‘Preview Thumbnail’ if you wish to view the pictures. See figure 32.
12. Click on the icon on the left if you wish to load the pictures into your camera's
internal memory. Click on the middle icon if you wish to load pictures from a CF
memory card. See figure 32.
13. The pictures from the selected memory will be displayed in the TWAIN dialog
box. Double-click on the pictures you wish to load. See figure 33.

14. Close the TWAIN dialog box once the picture has been loaded. The picture may
now be edited. For more information, see the Photo Express manual supplied
with the camera.

15. Click on the ‘Share’ button (A) if you wish to save the picture. See figure 35.

16. Click on the ‘Save’ button (B) to save the picture on a diskette or hard disk. See
figure 35.
17. Indicate the location (C) where you wish to save the picture. See figure 35.
18. Enter the name and type of the file (D) to indicate how the picture should be
saved in the selected location (C). See figure 35.
19. Select ‘Save to album’ (E) if you wish to add the picture to the Photo Express
photo album. See figure 35.
20. Click on ‘Save’ (F). The picture will now be saved in the selected location. See
figure 35.

ViewFun
Note:
ViewFun only works with Windows 98 with USB connection.
To use ViewFun, follow the instructions below.
1.
Start Windows 98.
2.
Connect the camera to your computer's USB port. See section 6.2.
3.
Start ViewFun. The window shown in figure 36 will pop up.

4.
Aim the camera at the desired object. The object can now be viewed in the
display window. See figure 36.
5.
Click on the R button if you wish to take a picture. A numbered miniature image
of the picture (L) will appear automatically in the photo album (M). See figure
36.
6.
Click on the N button to open the photo album (M).
7.
Double-click on the miniature image of the picture (L) to display it in the
application.
Note:
If you do not see an image in the display window, check whether the
camera is switched on and connected to the USB properly.
8.
Click on the Q button if you wish to make a video recording.
9.
Click on the T button if you wish to stop the video recording. A numbered
miniature image of the recording (C) will appear automatically in the video
album (B). See figure 36.
10. Click on the A button to open the video album (B).
11. Double-click on the miniature image of the video (C) to view it using
Mediaplayer, an application for displaying video images.

12. Click on the I button if you wish to use the advanced settings. You have a
choice between 4 different folders:
•

Sending e-mail (Email). You can set the compression level of the video or
picture you wish to send in this folder. See figure 39. This window must be set
before sending an image by e-mail.

Changing the language (Language). You can select the language in which you
want to display ViewFun in this folder. You have a choice between English,
German, French, Italian, Spanish and Dutch. See figure 40.

8. Viewing the Images on TV
You can view 'real-time' video images and pictures directly on your television with the
PhotoCam LCD. The camera can also be connected to a video cassette recorder so
that filmed images can be recorded immediately.
Follow the instructions below to connect the PhotoCam LCD.
8.1
Connecting to the TV / video cassette recorder
1.
Switch off the camera.
2.
Connect one end of the video cable supplied with the camera to connection C
on the camera. See figure 24.
3.
Connect the other end of the cable to the 'Video in' connection on your TV /
video cassette recorder.
4.
Turn on the TV / video cassette recorder and select the video channel.
5.
Switch on the camera. The camera allows you to watch 'real-time' video
automatically.
8.2
Viewing pictures on the TV
1.
Connect the camera to the TV. See section 8.1.
2.
Press the MODE button (see figure 25) to activate the playback mode. You may
now view the pictures from the memory on the TV.
3.
Press the selection buttons (see figure 25) to select the picture you wish to view.

The settings for your computer's serial port.
•
The exact error message, or a detailed description of what goes wrong and when.
