International Summer School - IKD Edition Preface Honorary Dean George Hirtl Austria 6th - 10th July 2016 2015: “Today’s Information - Tomorrow’s Knowledge” 2016: “Knowledge, Skills and Excellence: We Meet the Challenges” The IKD principal role is to harmonize ethics and standards of competence with an aim to create a level playing field for investigators not only throughout Europe. Each country sees a variation in practice, methods, legal framework and knowledge. The IKD ideals as an umbrella body is to share and influence the very best from an evolving profession for the good work of the true professional whilst rooting out and eliminating bad practices and unprofessional if not illegal behavior. While the tasks assigned to Investigators get more comprehensive as well as specific the cases and clients tend to cross-border and internationality. Our business is information and information is power - and profit. An Investigator needs to have a broad knowledge, obtain competences, train new skills and refresh daily routines to act and a behave as a Professional Investigator. The Romanian International Summer School progressed to a remarkable event, unanimously chosen as the official 2016 IKD International Continuous Professional Development by the General Assembly in Hamburg in late May. The “IKD Summer School” gives you the opportunity to broaden your knowledge, improve your skills, exchange experience and enhance confidence in colleagues when seeking assistance. International Summer School - IKD Edition Maria Bumbaru Romania Founder & President Dear guests & colleagues, this edition opens a new chapter for professional investigators. I do know we will have good presentations, find new friends, establish relationships, hear and learn things many “Investigators” in the PI community have no idea of. But George is not only a friend for most of us. We know him for many years, appreciating his dedication to develop and enhance the quality and standard for Private Investigations in Europe. Looking back on the past 11 years of the P.I. International Sumer School I reckon his various contributions to the Summer School. He had been here, year for year, promoting and assisting our goals and all these to improve the profession A private investigator, calling himself a professional, has to take initiatives to obtain education, skills and competence and being aware of basic, advanced and the newest methods and techniques affecting our profession. The P.I. International Summer School is an affordable Continuous Professional Development Programme with a unique international scope, recommended by the IKD, valued as their 2016 CPD. So to say...ranked as a "must have" for everyone pretending to be a Professional Investigator. The awarded certificates require to pass a test of competency - so they are a strong prove for your international education, hand signed with the signature of the Dean… one of the best lectors the Summer School has ever seen. Join us to learn. And to continue our work. And to realize the vision of a harmonized standard in Europe. We do provide simultaneous translation into English. We are happy to share our hospitality, promising to give you a good time, visiting memorable places - but on top of this it is YOU we want to meet and come back for the 2017 IKD Summer School. I give you a warm welcome… and… hope you share your spirit and ideas at the Summer School! Maria Bumbaru P.I. International Summer School - IKD Edition George Hirtl Austria Honorary Dean 2016 Dear guests, dear colleagues, it is an honor for me to preside the 12th Summer School, for the first time not only connected to the IKD but acknowledged as the IKD’s official 2016 international CPD. The recent one, chaired by Lothar Mueller, headed to “Today's Knowledge - Tomorrow's Information”; this year’s strapline “Knowledge, Skills and Excellence: We Meet the Challenges” underlined by the expert speakers responds to emerging markets, changing conditions, required skills and clients’ needs. Besides a large interest and participation of PI’s all over the world, the acceptance for the P.I. Summer School as THE international CPD did actually impress me. Covering learning, discussion, exchange of experience, networking and - needless to say - friendship, fun, sightseeing and adventure. Since 2004 I am something of a fixture to the Summer School, witnessing the improvement from a small, local, petty CPD to an international valuable event. But my challenge is not only to carry on but to progress. My focus is to give you a good as well as hard time, because you paid to learn, hear new things, refresh well known abilities, practice new skills, handle special techniques. Every Euro spent shall be worth the issue - and it will. Join us and participate to the 2016 IKD Summer School's principle: Knowledge, Skills and Excellence: We Meet the Challenges George Hirtl P.I. International Summer School - IKD Edition Franz and Bernhard Mader Austria "International Insurance Investigation - examples with practical relevance" www.bfsm.eu BFSM Schadenermittlung GmbH had its origins in a PI agency named SERVATIO, established in 1987 and following a 17 years‘ experience in the criminal service of the Austrian police forces. Today our services are used by Austrian, German, Swiss and other insurance companies aswell as their reinsurance partners. In 1990 the company started to focus on the requirements of the insurance industry, which resulted in an increasing numbers of assignments in this area and the subsequent renaming of the company from SERVATIO to the “Buero für Schadenermittlung” (office for ascertainment of damage). The increasing cross-border cases, initially in Central and Eastern Europe, but today worldwide, forced us to set up a worldwide network which we established over the years. In 2010, the "Büro für Schadenermittlung" had been renamed to BFSM Schadenermittlung GmbH when the company came under the management of the subsequent generation.
