Mustang Owners Club of
Southeastern Michigan
The Mustang Owners Club of Southeastern Michigan was founded in November
1975 by a group of individuals with the desire to protect and preserve the Ford
Mustang as one of the most attractive and fun filled cars ever made available.
We are enthusiasts of all ages with a love affair of the many generations of
America’s Premiere Pony Car. Whether it’s a coupe, convertible or fast back
from 1964 ½ to the new 2005 GT or the 2007 Cobra, we love them all. The
mission of club members is to collect, restore and preserve the history of the
Mustang along with the stories of the people and the roles that they played in
making this one of the great cars of the 20th Century. Although ownership is not
a requirement for membership, your enthusiasm, expertise and and/or love of the
automobile are most welcome.

PRESIDENTS MESSAGE
Special 2007 Commemorative Edition
Accelerator
Once again, we decided to do something a little different. Instead of a
special issue dedicated to just the Mustang Memories Car Show; we
decided to include photos from the entire summer in this special
newsletter. We worked with a new printer and found a way to offer
more pages for about the same price as last year. I hope all of you
enjoy remembering the many MOCSEM activities from the 2007 car
season. A special thanks goes to Bob Paul, Chris Richardson, Mark
Storm, and Greg Majka who provided photos from Mustang
Memories. I would also like to thank Bob for all his hard work every
month in putting together the newsletter. But he really outdoes himself
on this issue!
Putting together this issue reminded me of the many events we
organized as a club in 2007. Early in the year, Jenny Root gathered input from the membership that clearly stated that you wanted more
events and activities. It was obvious to me that people responded to our packed calendar of events. We had a lot of fun and the weather
cooperated most of the time. I was particularly pleased with the attendance at events in the past month. MOCSEM had 27 cars at the
Mustang Club of Mid-Michigan car show in September. About 15 cars cruised up to Birch Run together and all the club cars parked in the
same row. MOCSEM was recognized with the Club Participation Award. We had a great turnout at the Mustang cruise-in held at UNOS
Chicago Grill in Westland (35 cars) and a good number of people enjoyed the hayride and potluck at Mayberry State Park. Uno’s was a
wonderful host with a great parking spot, food discounts, and advertising on the Westland Mall sign. We look forward to doing monthly
cruise-ins there next year as well. The hayride provided more food,
chili, and desserts than most people could handle. But we could
always make room for Jello!
By the time you receive this newsletter; most of you will have
received and responded to the MOCSEM board of director election
ballots. I would like to point out the obvious – none of the positions
were contested. We will have some new faces on the board because
Mark and Phyllis Berk have decided to step down after a number of
years as Trustee and Treasurer respectively. However, I am
concerned that there is little interest among members in running for
board positions. I believe it is healthy for any organization to have
some regular turnover in its governing body. New people bring new
ideas and the membership won’t get sick of seeing and hearing the
same people at the front table every month. It is also important that
board members get the chance to take a break and enjoy just being a
club member for awhile. I encourage the membership to think ahead
to next year when more board positions will open and I hope some
new people will be willing to help lead the club.
Recently, Phil Smith and I had the privilege of being invited to a
monthly meeting of the Mustang Club of Mid-Michigan in Frankenmuth. We were asked to share our experiences with hosting a national
MCA show to help them put together plans for hosting a national in 2009. Phil prepared a very detailed summary of MOCSEM’s
experience with both the 1998 and 2003 shows and presented it to an attentive group. There were many questions asked and good ideas
shared. MCMM really appreciated the input and we will continue to provide any help we can during the planning phase. Dick Lebsack,
president of MCMM, and I are very pleased with the cooperative spirit between our clubs and we hope it continues.
Thanks again to everyone who attended the club events, helped out, and made this a memorable summer. Remember that there are still
some fun upcoming events like the December general meeting with a visit from Santa, and the Christmas party with fun gift exchange.
Make sure you contact Jenny or check the calendar for more details. The board is already working on ideas for next year, so please fill out
the activity survey so we can incorporate your ideas.
Happy Thanksgiving! May we all appreciate our many blessings.

NEWS FORM THE SOCIAL DIRECTOR
This sure has been a busy summer for the MOCSEM group, what with cruises, cruise-ins, and assorted other get-togethers and activities.
And the fun isn’t over yet! September 16th saw 15 cars, of all ages and models, caravan to the Birch Run Mid-Michigan Car Show, with a
total of 27 MOCSEM cars in attendance. The club received a prize and recognition for best represented, and several members received
trophies – congratulations to all. The only thing we needed to change is the fact that we don’t caravan home together. Even if we don’t
ALL drive back together, we need to make sure that at least 2 or 3 of us drive together – after all, there is safety in numbers. With it so
hard to find a ‘service’ station anymore, it’s even more important to have others with us, in case someone has car trouble. Let’s keep that
in mind for the next caravan.
There were 44 people at the ice cream social at Culver’s in Taylor. Even though we couldn’t all sit together, the weather was gorgeous so
we hung out together in the parking lot after enjoying a meal and/or ice cream treat. There were 50 people and 37+ cars at the first cruisein at UNO’s, and 27 people in 14 cars for the end-of-season cruise, which ended with a pizza party at my house. Both events were a lot of
fun. As of this writing, 49 signed up for the hayride/bonfire/potluck on October 13th, and 58 for the October 27th Appreciation Dinner at
Montana’s. Both of these events came and went by the time this was printed – were you able to participate in either or both?
Somehow, there isn’t anything extra planned for November, other than Officer Elections, which will be done through the mail. Please let
your voices be heard and return the ballots quickly. We will also be taking names for kids that wish to join us at the December meeting
and receive a gift from Santa. This is a nice family event, so be sure to get your child, grandchild, niece, or nephew signed up at the
November meeting. They must be at the December meeting to receive their gift. Also on December’s calendar is the Adult Christmas
Party on Saturday, December 15th, at 6 pm. It will be at Montana’s Steak and Seafood, which is located at 34290 Ford Road, Westland,
48185, behind the fitness center on the northeast corner at Wildwood. The cost will be $16.00 per person (collected that night), and there
will be a cash bar. Sign-ups will end by December 1st, so be sure to get your name on the list before then. If you wish to participate in the
fun gift exchange, bring a wrapped gift ($20.00 maximum) – everyone that brings one will get one.
Please fill out and get me the questionnaire that was in the last newsletter. This will really help when planning the activities for 2008,
which will be done in time to be approved by the Board at their January meeting. If you wish to mail it to me, please note that my address
was printed incorrectly in the last newsletter. It is 16641 Negaunee, Redford, 48240. You can also give it to me at a meeting or social
event. Thank you, in advance, for your input. I hope you’re all having a good time so far, and hope to see more of you at upcoming
events.
