Knowing where the path is taking you requires some understanding of where the path has been. Greenacres’ path began officially in 1988 when the Foundation was formed, but the idea of Greenacres was born in 1974 in the dreams of Louis Nippert. The initial dream was to develop a place where children could come to learn about agriculture and the environment. Between 1974 and 1988 the idea grew and garnered the support of Mrs. Nippert and others. The result was that in 1988 Greenacres was born to provide a place for school aged children to learn about the environment, sustainable agriculture, and the classical arts. Each of these topics should cross everyone’s path so that we are grounded in our natural surroundings, we understand that we borrow the earth from our grandchildren, and we celebrate the talents of our friends. Today, Greenacres continues to grow and that growth is reflected in the breadth of Summer Camp Opportunities. Twenty five years ago Summer Camp was limited to environment offerings. We are proud to have this year’s summer campers choose from Environment Themes (Earth Explorers), Garden Themes (Garden Adventures), Equine Themes (Boots and Bridles), Arts Themes (Artstars) and Water Quality Themes (Make a Splash). This breadth creates something for everyone and reflects the breadth of Greenacres. The growth in program topics has not changed Greenacres’ commitment to QUALITY QUALITY QUALITY. Each and every camp has been designed to complement fall to spring classroom learning with summer activities that are pure edutainment. Rest assured that any camper at Greenacres will have a great time and come home with stories to share around the dining room table. Happy Camping!
