Tour Descriptions: This year we’ve divided the tour in three segments that offer 2 weeks in Roldanillo and 6 days in Medellin. Roldanillo Days#1 / Roldanillo Days#2: For 2 weeks we will be staying in Roldanillo located in The Cauca Valley. This flying playground with mountains, flatlands and hills over a vast area is the preferred site in Colombia for high-level XC competitions and it has become one of the favorite destinations of elite paragliders from all around the planet. After celebrating The PWC super-final in January 2013, with a perfect weather, Roldanillo will host The Paragliding World Championship in 2015. At this time of the year this site offers outstanding thermal flying conditions with climb rates averaging 6 to 800 fpm on a normal day . After our daily 2 to 3 hour flying routine we will usually relax at the swimming pool and other amenities that Hotel Los Viñedos offers. Thermal Flying Clinics: February 1st, through February 3rd, we will offer an optional Thermal Flying Clinic that includes over 6 hours of ground school and 3 days of radio assisted flying specifically oriented to thermal flying tips, by Luis Rosenkjer and Ken Hudonjorgensen. First theory classes will be January 31st in the afternoon after flying. 10 spots maximum. Medellin / Santa Fe: This part of the tour was designed having in mind those pilots that want to see more of this beautiful land and fly a new site everyday. On February 10th we will drive through a scenic road from Roldanillo to Medellin, and we will stop half way to fly at La Merced, one of our group favorite sites during the 2013 tour. This is an easy flying site with a gorgeous view. After our flight the journey continues to Medellin where we will stay for the next 5 nights. Privileged by the geography and climate, Medellin counts with a variety of flying sites within 2 hours drive. Being a big and modern city and having numerous flying sites nearby makes Medellin a pretty unique paragliding destination in South America. We will choose our flying site for the day based on the conditions and our plan is to fly as many places as possible. Everyday, after flying, we will have the opportunity to cruise into Medellin and enjoy this vivid city that has just won the award “City of The Year” http://online.wsj.com/ad/cityoftheyear Medellin and Roldanillo are two of the best flying areas in Colombia. Some of the sites, due to the valley flows, have some ridge soaring conditions, especially late in the day. During our 2013 Colombian tour we flew 12 out of 13 days. We expect an average of 8 to 9 out of 10 flyable days during this time of the year. Perfect balance for lots of flying and some rest… Commentaries: Colombia is a tropical country of incredible diversity and charm. Its location just north of the equator means good flying all year round. Its consistency and unique flying conditions keep attracting pilots from all around the globe. Colombians are very happy and receptive to new friendships, making the visitors feel at home. They are confident that their country has experienced a huge change. They are proud of it, and welcome all guests to witness this new Colombia where, as they say, the only risk is “wanting to stay”. Come join us and experience this marvelous land of friendly people and great flying… Accommodations: Our paragliding trips distinguish themselves from some other options by our excellent quality lodging choices. This trip will be no different. We will stay at the 4 star “Poblado Alejandria Hotel” in Medellin. It is strategically located at a very quite hillside and upper-class vicinity, “La Zona Rosa” for the locals, and only 15 minutes walking distance to Parque Llera (3 minutes in a taxi) to one of the most vibrant night-life and restaurant areas of Medellin. Only 10 minutes walk to some of the most impressive shopping centers and great views over the city from its rooftop. In Roldanillo we will stay at “Los Viñedos Hotel”, the single most luxurious accommodation in this area, also a 4 star hotel, located at a hill-top out-looking the whole valley where all our flying will happen, as well as the mountain range on the opposite side. A beautiful swimming pool is located at a very strategic area between the restaurant, the front desk and the rooms. Both hotels have free WI-FI service, a great breakfast, restaurant, gym, and very comfortable rooms for local standards. If you are the kind of person that needs a lot of space, you will need to book a single room for yourself… Los Viñedos Hotel, located on a small hill, offers a privileged point of view of our flying playground El Poblado Alexandria Hotel is located at a quiet hill, only fifteen minutes walk distance from El Parque LLera, one of the most vibrant night-life and restaurant areas of Medellin.
