A Perfect Pink Stumps Day
On Wednesday 29 June the Year 10 PASS girls and members of our wider
school community collaborated to set up a variety of stalls and activities for
Pink Stumps Day. Pink Stumps Day supports a very worthwhile cause, raising
money for breast cancer with proceeds from the day going to the McGrath
Foundation.
It was great to see everyone get involved and embrace the lighter side of
the day by wearing pink. Alongside this, an inventive way that the girls
decided to raise extra funds was by developing a ‘fine’ system for those who
forgot to wear pink clothes. Well done.

raise another $404.35 in order to pie her at assembly with
the biggest pink pie. Strathfield Girls are proud to present
The story of Jane and Glenn McGrath is known throughout this donation to the McGrath Foundation to help with the
research for a cure for breast cancer and to support the
Australia. The cricketer and his wife who suffered and
passed away from breast cancer, has led to the formation of charity’s breast care nurses.
what is now one of Australia's most respected and
recognised charities - the McGrath Foundation.
This esteemed charity raises money to place McGrath
Breast Care nurses in communities across Australia to
support families with breast cancer and spreads awareness
in young people, especially women. Since the formation of
the McGrath Foundation, there are over 110 McGrath
Breast Care nurses providing support and services free of
charge to over 44,000 families in our country.
Pink Stumps Day is a day to fundraise money for the
McGrath Foundation. This year, Pink Stumps Day at
Strathfield Girls High School was held on 29 June, and it was
a great success. Students and teachers dressed in pink, as a
part of a whole school mufti day. All the food from the
sausage sizzle (special thanks to Mr Ingrati for the amazing
sausages) and bake sale sold out and the winner for the lolly
-guessing competition was Nicole W from Year 10.
The Pink Stumps Cricket Game ran throughout lunchtime in
the hockey field where there were many enthusiastic
players and spectators. Both teachers and students
participated, but the students won by a greater margin.
The ‘pie-ing’ competition took place at assembly the
following day. With a total of $220.90, Mr Loke became
destined to be pied and so were the Year 10 PASS teachers,
Ms Cremin and Ms Edgtton after having raised more than
$1500. Since there was a tonne of cream left, we decided to
make extra pies, one for every other teacher who
volunteered. So we thank Mr Loke, Ms Philip, Ms
McDermott, Ms Cullen, Ms Shalini, Mr Down, Mr Grech, Ms
Paleothodoros and Ms Li for letting us pie them right before
parent-teacher interviews.
Overall, Pink Stumps Day raised $3595.65, but failed to
reach our goal of $4000. However, luckily for us, Ms Lyris
has extended the donation time to Term 3 Week 6 for us to
Sports News
High School and Netball to be held at Tempe Reserve. Year 8
students have had the opportunity to select their sport and
teams last Friday and were given a permission note which
needs to be returned this week.
Every term, 4 different classes from Year 7 and Year 8 are
involved in swimming lessons at Enfield Aquatic Centre
every Tuesday as part of their sporting program. Students
are provided with the opportunity to learn how to swim, as
well as a chance to extend their aquatic ability and increase
their fitness levels.
The PDHPE teachers at Strathfield Girls have created
numerous lessons to be followed at the pool, which range
from floating and kicking to learning different strokes and
survival skills. The aim of the program is to develop the
student’s skills so that they can become competent and
confident in the water, as well as creating fun activities so
that students can enjoy their time spent in the pool.
The Gala Day for Year 8 is approaching and will be held on
Wednesday 10 August. The Gala days are an opportunity for
our students to play a Round Robin competition against
other schools in our zone. The aim of the Gala Day is
participation and fun. Students in Year 10 PASS classes have
been given leadership opportunities as team coaches. They
will train their teams in the weeks leading up to the event
and assist with coaching and refereeing on the day.
Sports offered this year are: Soccer to be held at Mackey
Park, Marrickville, Oz Tag to be held at Waterworth Park,
Marrickville, European Handball to be held at Dulwich Hill
