The Nehelani, Schofield Barracks
Experience authentic Hawaii in traditional Ho’olaulea fashion on September
12, 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.at the Nehelani, Schofield Barracks.Learn all about
the culture and customs of our Hawaiian hosts at this unique event. Watch
hula (dance) performances and lua (warrior) demonstrations and try your
hand at lei-making, coconut weaving and other traditional crafts. Play
some Hawaiian games or try your hand at local-style fishing. You could even
sample some traditional Hawaiian treats or learn how to make them instead!
Lots of experts will be on hand to talk about all things Hawaii, what you need
to know and must-dos during your time here in Hawaii.
Soldier Show, September 4 – Martinez Gym,
Schofield Barracks
The U.S. Army Soldier Show is a highly integrated, high-energy ensemble
production, offering a wide range of popular music and stage spectacle
to Soldiers and Families on Army Garrisons worldwide. Don’t miss your
chance to catch the U.S. Army Soldier Show’s performance of “Lights,
Camera, Action”, at Martinez Fitness Center Gym, Schofield Barracks on
September 4, at 7:00 p.m. Blue Star Card holders join us for a special
pre-show gathering for Family Fun Fridays, beginning at 6:00 p.m. at the
Tropics. Enjoy free Papa John’s pizza at Tropics and complimentary VIP
seating at the show! VIP seating is very limited. For more information or to

Opening Night: Barnum, September 10 – Richardson
Theatre, Ft. Shafter
Take in the real opening night experience with a free showing
of Barnum, at Richardson Theatre, Ft. Shafter on Thursday,
September 10, at 7:30 p.m. Barnum is the award winning show
that traces the career of America’s greatest showman from
1835 to 1889 when he joined James A. Bailey to form “the
greatest show on earth.” Enjoy free pupus prior to the show,
transportation, and a special reserved seating area! Spaces
are limited. Please register by September 4 with the Recreation
Activities Office by calling 655-0112.

Big R: Countdown to Redeployment, September 24
– Tropics, Schofield Barracks
Celebrate another month of deployment complete on Thursday,
September 24, from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m., at the Tropics. Join your
fellow Blue Star Card friends in cheering on the contestants in
the final round of Operation Rising Star, followed by a special
Blue Star Card version of Don’t Forget the Lyrics! Light pupus
and childcare will be provided. Spaces are limited for this event.

BLUE STAR CARD PROGRAM SPOTLIGHT:
The Army Community Theatre (ACT) has been serving the
military and civilian communities since 1942 and is located
at Richardson Theatre, Fort Shafter. ACT presents a season
of four major Broadway musicals and four plays in Readers
Theatre format. ACT was the first community theatre in America
to secure the amateur rights for MISS SAIGON, CATS, CURTAINS
and was one of nine selected to perform in the American
Association of Community Theatre’s competition in 2007.
The 2009-2010 theatre season includes the following performances:
September 2009 – Barnum
November 2009 – High School Musical 2
February 2010 – A Chorus Line
May 2010 – The 3 Penny Opera

Do you have a
Blue Star Card?
Spouses of deployed Soldiers are eligible to sign up for a Blue Star
Card, which will give them discounts at FMWR facilities, activities
and special events. Your Blue Star Card will be valid throughout
the entire deployment. To get your card, visit Army Community
Service on Schofield Barracks. (The IAP Offices are no longer
issuing Blue Star Cards).

A little information for Spouses with children.
Parents Night Out
Parent’s Night Out will be held September 12 (AMR CDC), and September 26
(Schofield CDC and Bennett Youth Center). For more information on Parent’s Night
Out or to make a reservation, call the Schofield Barracks CYS Services Registration
Office at 655-5314 or the AMR Registration Office at 833-5393.
Star Recipe of the Month:
Keiki Question of the month: My high school teen is looking for after school
activities to participate in. Are there any programs available to keep my teen busy
after school?
Answer: Yes, Child, Youth and School Services does have a new program called
EDGE! This program offers out-of-school opportunities for children and youth to
Experience, Develop, Grow and Excel by participating in cutting-edge art, fitness,
life skills and adventure activities, known as Art EDGE!, Fit EDGE, Life EDGE!, and
Adventure EDGE! Programs specifically for teens during the month of September
include: “Saddle Up”, bowling, adventure and fitness. For more information on

Health and Fitness Center STACC Site Information:
The STACC site for the Health and Fitness center will remain free for valid Blue Star
Card holders, Mon.-Fri., 8-11 a.m., at Kaala Community Activities Center, Bldg. 556.

Silly Star Scrambles
Ingredients
2 cups
cold milk
1 4-serving size package
instant chocolate
pudding
8 oz.
frozen whipped topping
(such as Cool Whip) ,
thawed
1 1/2 cups
crushed sandwich
cookies (such as
Oreos)
20
gummy worms
Whisk together milk and instant
pudding for two minutes, until
pudding is completely dissolved.Let
stand 5 minutes to thicken.
Stir in frozen whipped topping and
1/2 cup of the crushed cookies.
Spoon into 10 cups.
Sprinkle remaining crushed cookies
over the pudding mixture. Top with 2
gummy worms.
Chill until ready to serve. Makes 10
servings.
