“Travel into the world of Rituals and
rediscover happiness in the smallest things.
It is our passion to transform everyday
routines into meaningful rituals. It is our
mission to turn something as simple as a
warm bath, a cup of tea or a relaxing
massage into a wonderful experience.”
(Homepage website Rituals)
Mark Hoppenbrouwers,
Supply Chain Director of Rituals:
“We need a partner that
will grow with us and
will always be a step
ahead of us”
The Rituals philosophy is as simple as it is powerful. “Enjoy the everyday moments in life,” according to Mark Hoppenbrouwers, Supply Chain
Director at Rituals. “This is the basis upon which
the number of body and home care products has
grown over the years. Besides the well known fragrance sticks, Rituals offers a multitude of products, including gift sets with care products for
him and her, eau de parfum, gemstone make-up,
tea and home & yoga wear. Products that can
be used on a daily basis are great as a gift for
yourself and also as a surprise for someone else.
Every outlet has its own sampling table where our
beauty products can be sampled in peace. Our
employees are trained at the Rituals Academy in
order for them to be able to provide clients with
personal advice.”
Innovation
“Innovation is an important success factor for Rituals”,
explains Hoppenbrouwers. “Rituals is constantly developing new products. A range that surprises. A new
make-up line based on gemstones was launched
recently. Technology is not the first priority when we
develop a new product. We first look for an inspiring
story. As regards the make-up, we went to China and
ancient Egypt, where powdered gemstones have been
used as beauty products for many centuries. Cleopatra
was one of the first women to use them. We take a story
like this and then build our product around it. This is how
every product has its ritual.” 4
Rituals was established in 2000. Survival was the issue in the
early years. How can you turn a brilliant idea into a healthy
company and build a brand identity without large advertising budgets? The correct business model had to be found
for the innovative brand concept. After this important pioneering phase, a decision was made after four years to establish
an own chain of outlets and to retail the products in luxury
department stores. Although it took another four years to
grow from one to two outlets, in 2008 the number of outlets
increased rapidly, from 65 to 95. Rituals now has 190 outlets,
250 shop-in-shops and five City Spas spread over twelve
countries. In 2011, fifty new outlets were opened, including
in Italy, Sweden and Brazil. The combination of top quality
home and body products for an affordable price and the unique, slow shopping experience forms a strong foundation for
success. The growth in the last year will probably continue
in 2012. Preparations are currently underway for the launch
of the range in the United States in the first quarter of 2013.
InfoZine | March 2012
in the outlets”, says Hoppenbrouwers. “Wim Bosman
understands our wishes and instructions, and fulfils
them. That is important, certainly when we deploy
extra employees in order to process the items straight
away. Drivers help to stack the pallets and unload the
products so that they can take the pallets with them
again immediately. That works very well. These may
seem to be small things, but this approach does make
the processing of the products in the outlets much
easier.”
Mark Hoppenbrouwers, Supply Chain Director of Rituals
Rituals products are sold in the Rituals outlets, shopin-shops in major department stores, in hotels and
by various airlines. “We do not advertise, but we do
distribute. You see Rituals everywhere and there is
always an outlet nearby.”
Storage and distribution
Wim Bosman provides the transportation for the
stocking of the 65 Rituals outlets in the Netherlands.
“Wim Bosman was selected as logistics service provider
in 2009 on the basis of price, capacity and competence.
The combination of storage and distribution was also
a reason to work together. Moreover, a number of
Rituals products are categorised as dangerous goods,
with specific requirements for storage and transport.
Wim Bosman possess the required permits and
implements the necessary measures. The products
are delivered from the warehouses in ’s-Heerenberg
on the basis of the agreements made in consultation.
For example, we find it important that the drivers
ensure that the pallets of products are delivered at an
agreed time in the morning, before it gets really busy
Large-scale campaign offers
Furthermore, Rituals needs a logistics service provider
that has enough capacity to support the growth. Large
orders must be picked when a new outlet is opened.
“On a day like that you must be able to rely 100% on
the truck with products arriving on that day, at that
specific time. This also applies to the launching of new
products, such as very recently in February during the
launch of our home & yoga wear. That was an extremely
successful large-scale campaign. Wim Bosman creates
a separate street in the warehouse during a campaign
period, so that all of the launch products are located
next to each other. This increases the order picking
capacity, with the result being that we can stock
our outlets simultaneously during the launching of
new products. A method of working that makes the
difference between a mediocre and a good partner. We
need a partner that is involved in the thought process,
grows with us, and is reliable and flexible. A partner
that can respond to periods of fluctuating volumes.
The Christmas season is a good example of this type
of period. During a recent meeting with franchisers
it became apparent that we have had a flawless
Christmas peak. That is a great compliment. Certainly
when you consider that our outlets are mainly located
in city centres where special logistics requirements
and restrictions are in force, such as here on the
Kalverstraat in the heart of Amsterdam.”
Sustainability
Outside the Netherlands, the orders shipped to
Brazil require a great deal of extra handling and
administration. “This involves complex logistics
orders and labour-intensive registration of the batch
codes. Next year we plan to export to the United
States. If we intend to become a global brand we
must look for a partner with worldwide cover. We are
going to study what Wim Bosman can mean in the
supply chain. The acquisition by Mainfreight offers
global opportunities. Wim Bosman recently won a
prize for being the logistics service provider with
the most sustainable operations. I also want to see if
we can also progress in this regard. I am convinced
that sustainability goes hand in hand with efficiency.
Furthermore, sustainability is ideally appropriate for
the Rituals products”, concludes Hoppenbrouwers InfoZine | March 2012

activities in the Benelux.

From white spot to logistics hotspot
On 18 January 2012, the ‘Logistics DNA Arnhem
Nijmegen Region’ report was presented to the
provincial council of Gelderland (Netherlands).
This report (executed by order of Lindus, Chamber
of Commerce, Arnhem Nijmegen urban region
and LEC Liemers) details the qualities of and opportunities for the regional logistics sector in
Gelderland.
The report indicates that logistics concerns more
than just trucking from A to B. Various companies are
active in the region that execute high value logistics
operations, thereby adding a great deal of value. For
example, quality control, repair and assembly.
Favourable starting position
The logistics sector in Gelderland, with more than
25,000 employees and an added value of 1.65 billion
Euros annually, is clearly highly enterprising. The construction of the motorway A15 will strengthen the
region. In addition, the logistics training offered by the
Hogeschool Arnhem Nijmegen (HAN university of applied sciences) provides an outstanding foundation for an
effective training structure. This favourable starting position requires further development, according to the report.
Logistics deployment
Logistics is very emphatically included on the implemen-
10
tation agenda of the provincial goods transportation
programme. This year, 1.8 million Euros will be made
available to further reinforce the climate for establishing logistics businesses in Gelderland and thereby
enhance the economic strength of the province.
Secure Lane
During the debate, Transport en Logistiek Nederland
(TLN, the national association for Transport and
Logistics) emphasised the urgent need of carriers and
shippers for a Secure Lane. This will combat criminality
on motorways and at parking areas with the aid of
camera surveillance. A plan is currently worked out for
the creation of a Secure Lane on the motorway A12.
Core group
A core group will be created that will prepare an investment agenda for the logistics sector. Measures such as
efforts concerning strategic acquisition and a strategic
vision for the logistics sector will be part of this For more information, please contact:

Safety & Quality Assessment Systems (SQAS)
An SQAS audit is executed in order to ascertain
whether an organisation meets the requirements
that are stipulated in relation to safety and quality
during transportation and the storage and cross
docking of packaged environmentally dangerous
goods. Wim Bosman in ’s-Heerenberg (Netherlands)
achieved an above average score in the SQAS audit.
What is SQAS?
SQAS is an evaluation system that guarantees safe and
high quality transportation, storage and cross docking
of dangerous (chemical) goods. The CEFIC (European
Chemical Industry Council) developed the SQAS quality
standard.
The audit
A detailed, objective and factual report was created
on the basis of 513 questions for Transport and 544
for Warehousing. The SQAS audit revealed that Wim
Bosman ’s-Heerenberg meets the requirements of SQAS
Warehouse and SQAS Transport Service. This involves
the examination of various processes, the training of
team members and the registration of and response to
incidents. The SQAS audit revealed that Wim Bosman
12
scores extra points for the number of trained safety
officers, the equipment at various locations, registration
and the following up of incidents.
The SQAS audit provides an even better guarantee of
quality, safety and environmental care within a company
– certainly in combination with ISO certification – and
is especially important for companies in the chemical
sector Editor’s explanation: The SQAS audit was altered on 1 July 2011. The
methodology is unchanged in relation to the generic effect, but there have
been a number of specific changes in terms of content. Wim Bosman was
evaluated on the basis of the updated SQAS audit.

of a normal 6x2 truck with a height-adjustable BDF
switching system. A dolly with two axles is connected
to the back of the truck. A regular, and also new, 13.60
metre trailer can be connected to the dolly.
Advantage
Two Ecocombis can carry the same amount of freight as
three normal trucks. Since the fuel consumption of both
types is nearly the same, this means that two Ecocombis
reduce the CO2 emissions by more than 100,000 kg per
year.
Virtual driver Wibo
Our virtual driver Wibo is present on the backside of
the new trailers: a unique design with an informative
character Besides the two new Ecocombis the Wim Bosman fleet
is further expanded with forty new universal trailers.
These trailers can be used as part of an Ecocombi.

Seven days per week to Turkey
Using intermodal transport enables Wim Bosman
to offer the possibility to transport products to
Turkey on a daily basis.
Figures
Despite the global crisis, Turkey’s exports grew by
18.2 percent in 2011. A total of 101.2 billion Euros of
products was exported in 2011. An enormous increase
in comparison with 2002, in which exports generated
27.8 billion Euros. This makes Turkey one of the largest
export growth markets in the world.
Intermodal transport
Intermodal transport combines transportation by
road, water and rail, and this saves road mileage.
The Turkish logistics service provider Ekol and Wim
Bosman are working as partners, transporting as
many groupage, partial and complete loads as
possible via intermodal transport.
Multimodal
Besides the fact that this multimodal method is
one of the most environmentally friendly forms of
transport, there are even more advantages: transit
of international shipments is possible without transit
documents, negative effects due to weather conditions
are negligible and transportation also continues on
the weekend, non-stop.
With more than twenty years of transport experience to
and from Turkey, Wim Bosman offers clients complete
support in terms of advice, multimodal transport
solutions, speed and budget. Having Turkish speaking
team members, customs specialists and dedicated
transport planners means that Wim Bosman can always
offer an appropriate transport solution More information about shipments to and

Winner Entrepreneur’s prize Transport and Logistics
The Entrepreneur’s prize for Transport and
Logistics is a prestigious Dutch prize in the
logistics sector with which Transport en Logistiek Nederland (TLN, the national association
for Transport and Logistics) encourages entrepreneurs to devote more attention to continuous
quality improvement, professionalization and
innovation in the sector. On Saturday the 26th
of November, during the annual TLN congress,
the Wim Bosman Group was announced as the
winner of the Entrepreneur’s prize for Transport and Logistics 2012 in the large company
category. This year’s theme was Corporate Social
Responsibility.
Minister Schultz van Haegen
“The great efforts taken in relation to CSR and then
applying it in practice prompted the jury to announce
Wim Bosman as the winner of the Entrepreneur’s prize
for Transport and Logistics 2012”, according to Karel
Noordzij (chairman of the jury). CCO Mario Schoofs
received the prize from the Minister of Infrastructure and
Environment, Ms. Melanie Schultz van Haegen.
Jury report
According to the jury, Wim Bosman, with its own
Sustainability Manager - Leonie van Driel – has made
great strides. The Wim Bosman Group has achieved its
ambitious aims. Wim Bosman is clearly implementing
the CSR policy and is leading in the sector. “We have
Wibo, a virtual driver who serves as an example. Wibo
started life in cartoons relating to damage prevention.
The goal of the cartoons is to increase awareness
amongst drivers in an appealing way”, according to
Leonie van Driel.
Corporate Social Responsibility
For the Wim Bosman Group, sustainability is about
the manner in which it executes the core tasks of a
logistics service provider. Wim Bosman is aware
of the socio-ecological impact of its activities and
accepts social responsibility by altering its business
operations appropriately. A CSR programme has been

ECO-service
“One of the sustainable solutions that we have developed
is the ECO-service. Where possible, we use a longer lead
time, which enables us to load more efficiently and to make
more effective use of intermodal solutions. This is how we
reduce CO2 emissions. We used to be primarily focused
on speed, but now we also include the environment in
our approach to clients. Naturally, we are the ambassador
of the concept and must take every effort to encourage
our clients to adopt this new way of thinking”, according
to Leonie van Driel Would you like more information on sustainability?
