Institute of Oncology "Prof. Dr. Ion Chiricuta" Stained glass from the Old Building of the Institute ABOUT THE INSTITUTE The Institute of Oncology "Prof. Dr. Ion Chiricuta" (IOCN) was firstly established in 1929 by Prof. Dr. Iuliu Moldovan, under the name of “The Institute for Research and Prevention of Cancer”. It is one of the first cancer centers in Europe. Starting with 1965, the Institute goes over a modernization period, initiated by Prof.Dr. Ion Chiricuta. This is the reason why, ever since 10.08.1990, it will bear the name of The Institute of Oncology "Prof. Dr. Ion Chiricuta" Cluj-Napoca. The Institute of Oncology is a comprehensive cancer center of national public interest, with juridical personality, subordinate to the Ministry of Public Health. Mission The mission of the Oncology Institute is to contribute to the diminution of cancer's effects in Romania, through programs that integrate attendance, prevention, research and continuous education of all the professionals involved, and of course of the public. Vision Our vision is to be the first oncology center nationally and regionally, founded on the extraordinary quality of our members, on the attendance at excellent standards of our patients, on research and education. The Institute is also a provider of continuous medical education activities (CME).
