Nat has over 35 years of executive level and mid level human resources experience in a variety of positions covering such industries as financial services, health care, hospitality, food service, food distribution, higher education, local and state government. Prior to the December 2000 founding of The Horizons Group, Nat was the Vice President of Human Resources for State Employees Credit Union of Maryland. In that capacity he directed the overall human resource function for the largest credit union in the State of Maryland. With over 450 employees and one billion dollars in assets, Nat was part of the senior management team that set the strategic direction for the credit union. Before joining SECU, Nat was the Regional Director for Human Resources for Service America Corporation, a major food service contractor. In that capacity, Nat supervised a team of 4 and was responsible for the regional human resources function, which consisted of approximately 8,000 employees in 16 states. Nat has been employed by The Marriott Corporation as Corporate Manager of Employee Relations and Manager of Employment, by Holiday Inns, Inc. as Manager of Employment, by Baptist Memorial Hospital Health Care System as Manager of Human Resources, by PYA Monarch a division of Sara Lee Corporation as Manager of Corporate Employee Relations, and by The HBH Corporation as an Overseas Recruiter. Prior to entering corporate America, Nat spent 10 years in Law Enforcement serving as a Maryland State Police Officer, a Prince George’s County Police Officer and as Director of Public Safety, Bowie State College (now Bowie State University). In 1998, Nat along with twelve other senior human resources’ executives founded the National Association of African Americans in Human Resources. In 2001 he was elected as the National President .This is an organization which represents over 7000 African American Human Resource professionals in 30 cities. In 2007 Nat was bestowed the Lifetime Member Emeritus designation of the organization. In 2013, Nat was elected Chairman of the National Board of Directors of the National Association of African Americans in Human Resources. Nat is also the 2011 – 2013 Immediate Past President of The University of Maryland University College National Alumni Association. The Alumni Association represents over 20,000 UMUC Alumni. Nat is a weekly contributor to radio station WEAA, Morgan State University on Mondays on the Sandy Mallory Show with his “Tips to Elevate Your Career” and a frequent presenter at the “Moneywise Empowerment Seminars“ with Kelvin Boston. He has spoken before numerous Civic Organizations, Colleges, and business organizations. Page 6 The Baltimore Ledger February 2015 Deputy Inspector General Gale S. Stone SSA/OIG Residence: Ellicott City, MD Born: September 10, 1964, Evergreen, Alabama Family: Spouse: Wendell Stone; Children: Thomas Stone (U.S. Naval Academy) Religion: Baptist Education: Huntingdon College (BA 1987), Certified Public Accountant (1990), The Johns Hopkins University (MS 1998) Career: Gale Stallworth Stone was appointed to the position of Deputy Inspector General on February 24, 2013. In this capacity, Mrs. Stone provides leadership and guidance in the planning, policy and program development and management of the Office of the Inspector General (OIG). Mrs. Stone has been a part of the Social Security Administration's OIG since its inception in March 1995. She previously held various positions at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) OIG. Since 1995, Mrs. Stone has held a number of leadership positions within the SSA OIG and was selected as a member of the Senior Executive Staff in 2000. Most recently, she served as the Deputy Assistant Inspector General for Audit, with primary responsibility for financial and information technology audits. She is also currently serving a 4year appointment to the Information Security and Privacy Advisory Board, which advises the National Institute of Standards and Technology. Mrs. Stone began her 29-year Federal career as a cooperative education student in the Birmingham, Alabama office of the HHS OIG. Over the years, Mrs. Stone has received numerous awards, including a 1996 Hammer Award, a 2002 Inspector General Award, and recognition from the former President’s Council on Integrity and Efficiency including a 2004 Glenn Roth Award, a 2006 Award for Excellence, and a 2007 Barry Snyder PCIE/ECIE Joint Award. Any new nominations should notify the Awards committee. Early Careers The committee is preparing two events: one in mid-January and one in March targeted towards local college students. The committee will send updates to the Editorial Committee to advertise the upcoming events. Editorial December newsletter will be sent to the website for upload. Please send any new updates to be included in the upcoming newsletter. Education and Programs The next meeting will be held next Wednesday at the Overhills Mansion. Greg Wallig and Cal Bassford will be speaking on “Risk and Reward of Social Media and Cloud Computing”. We also have a tentative motivational speaker for the Annual Awards Meeting at Rolling Roads, and currently searching for speakers for Early Careers and Ethics and Fraud training. January’s meeting will be a joint meeting with ASMC, 2 CPEs, at Dave and Busters. Meetings The committee is working with Rolling Road to finalize the menu for December’s meeting. The committee is also arranging door prizes and ticket drawings. Membership The committee is working with plans for membership by reaching out to potential members and those with an interest to assist the committee. AGA Web Conferences make earning CPE hours easy and affordable. This cost-effective educational tool is only $289 per phone line and attendance is unlimited. Web conferences feature experts on a variety of government financial management and performance topics. Further, the last 20 minutes of each program is devoted to call-in questions, which provides interaction between the listeners and speakers. The web conferences are held on Wednesdays from 2–3:50 p.m. ET. February 4th– Potholes on the Path to Performance Management Hopes for the utility of performance management techniques continue to run high in many circles. At the same time, entities that make efforts along these lines run into a variety of obstacles. This web conference will discuss some of the most prevalent issues that arise, and attempt to provide ideas for alleviating them.
