Excellence Sportive Sherbrooke
Sports & Recreation
Excellence Sportive Sherbrooke
Psychological
and neuropsychological
support for athletes
Over the coming years, athletes supported by Excellence
Sportive Sherbrooke will receive additional services in sports
psychology and neuropsychology thanks to assistance from
Amélie Soulard and Julie Bolduc-Teasdale.
Amélie Soulard, a PhD student in psychology at the Université
de Sherbrooke, began her internship with the Excellence
Sportive Sherbrooke team early this fall. This final two-year
project allows ESS to provide mental preparation services
to about 30 young athletes, young hopefuls for the 2013
Canada Summer Games, and to receive advice on evaluating
the Impulsion 2013 program. Amélie also helps the ESS work
team with organizational efficiency. Amélie Soulard and ESS
have been working together for over a year on the internship
project, thanks to Amélie’s participation in the support
program for training groups as a sports psychology consultant
for the Bishop’s Gaiters Women’s Basketball team.
“It’s a privilege and an extraordinary opportunity to continue
working with Excellence Sportive Sherbrooke and its athletes,
as I develop my organizational and strategic skills. I hope that
my presence is a plus, as much for the athletes we support
under the Impulsion 2013 program, as for the organization
itself which is currently showing great momentum!” said
Amélie Soulard on working for Excellence Sportive Sherbrooke.
As for Julie Bolduc-Teasdale, neuropsychologist and founder
of the Clinique de neuropsychologie du sport associated with
the Horizon Performance multidisciplinary team, she signed a
collaborative agreement with Excellence Sportive Sherbrooke
to support athletes who suffer concussions. Beyond posttraumatic support for victims of concussions, she offers an
approach that aims to establish a base level for at-risk athletes
early in the season, set up a recovery schedule in the event
of a concussion, and establish a protocol for returning to the
game. This approach is based on a test that is used to establish
a neuropsychological measure of the athlete’s cognitive
function under normal conditions.
“I am very happy to have the chance to work with the
Excellence Sportive Sherbrooke team. Concussions are real
injuries that require serious attention. Thanks to this new
partnership, I hope to provide athletes with ways to better
manage their symptoms following a concussion. This approach
seeks to optimize the recovery period, avoid athletes being
penalized in their school work, and ensure that they are in
the best physical and cognitive shape when they resume their
training,” said the new ESS collaborator.
“Recent events clearly demonstrate the importance
of prevention in contact sports that present risks
of concussions, especially among our youth as they develop.
A partnership such as the one offered by Ms. Bolduc-Teasdale
is a step in that direction, as is the agreement she established
with our colleague Rémy Fontaine for certain athletes on
the Triolet high school’s Harfangs team,” said Jacques Petit,
Executive Director at Excellence Sportive Sherbrooke.
ESS now on Twitter
Excellence Sportive Sherbrooke has taken a step further
into the world of social media with the creation of a Twitter
account with the name ESSherbrooke.
This new platform lets ESS share news about high-level sports
in Sherbrooke and updates about our organization with even
more people and organizations. Anyone interested in ESS
activities is invited to follow us. We will make it our duty to
follow everyone interested in high-level performance sports
and major sporting events.
Twitter users can access the Excellence Sportive Sherbrooke
account at www.twitter.com/ESSherbrooke or by clicking

Competition sites
take on Game colours!
We invite you to visit the Canada Summer Games-Sherbrooke
2013 Web site designed by Sherbrooke Web agency Lubie
Vision. This dynamic site lets you find information on a
variety of topics, including the disciplines, competition sites,
competitions calendar, and organization of the Games. Thanks
to a news section and our blog, you’ll also get the latest
developments on planning this major event that will take
place from August 2 to 17, 2013.
It’s now easier to identify Canada Summer Games competition
sites in Sherbrooke, Magog, and Coaticook thanks to clearly
identifiable banners! This signage is the first step in the
development of our brand image created by Bingo Publicité in
Sherbrooke. On the banner, you’ll see sports items associated
with the site and the slogan “Get in the games.” The
stunning photos were taken by Jocelyn Riendeau of Imacom
Communications.
Through the site, you can subscribe to our newsletter and
never miss a thing! While visiting the site, click our Facebook
and Twitter links. We want to be in direct contact with you –
the Canada Games are a community project that will have
a positive impact on the region. Follow the evolution of the
Canada Summer Games-Sherbrooke 2013 over the weeks
to come!
Last September, representatives from the National Sports
Organizations and regional sports leaders visited the various
sites together, the first in a series of formal meetings that
represent turning points in preparation for the Canada Games.
The first goal was to bring technical representatives from the
National Sports Organizations and sports leaders together
since they will be working closely together over the next
two years. Inspecting the sites also led to the establishment
of a list of improvements to be made to respect technical
standards. This meeting proved very productive, and the
necessary work will be carried out within the required
deadlines. Technical representatives from the National Sports
Organizations will return to Sherbrooke in February 2013, six
months before the games, for final adjustments if necessary.
Internal board
of management set up
to meet challenges!
The Canada Summer Games-Sherbrooke 2013 Host Society
can now count on an Internal Board of Management made
up of 19 department heads. This new format, implemented
by the Senior Management Team, will provide input from
experts in each of the 19 basic departments set up to ensure
smooth operations for the Games. The designated individuals
were selected for their broad experience in their field. The
departments include the sports program, site management,
sustainable development, health, and transportation.
Each department head is responsible for financial, material
and human resources needs, among others. Members of the
Internal Board of Management are currently participating
in various planning stages that will result in a complete and
final implementation plan by spring 2012.

Once the work is done, these department heads also have
the chance to participate, every four months, in the Super
Sports Challenge! The goal is to develop
the organizing committee’s abilities in
and knowledge of the disciplines to be
represented at the Canada Games. Quite
a feat for these people who have much
admiration for the real athletes!
