Burke of Fredericktown’s Beyer Medical Group gave his testimony before the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Energy and Commerce, Subcommittee on Health, Feb. 11 in Washington D.C. The subcommittee’s hearing is entitled “Examining ICD-10 Implementation”. The latest U.S. deadline for adoption of ICD-10 medical coding system is in October. The federal government issued a mandate in 2011 for healthcare providers across the country to transition their current medical coding system (ICD-9) to the new ICD-10. Dr. Phillip Beyer, clinic owner, and Deborah McEuen, practice administrator, accompanied Dr. Burke on the trip to Washington, D.C. During his testimony Dr. Burke stated, “It is useful in the treatment of coronary artery disease because it provides tracking of which vessels received which grafts and this is invaluable.” Representative Frank Pallone of New Jersey also commented favorably toward ICD-10. He testified, “It is an improved communication tool for healthcare practitioners.” Beyer Medical Group of Fredericktown has a clinical staff of two family nurse practitioners, a pediatric nurse practitioner and a mental health provider. Follow The Daily Journal Dr. Burke who leads the team of healthcare providers said, “We were able to make the transition to ICD-10 in Oct. of 2013.” He listed leadership, team work, knowledge, and appropriate computer software as the key elements to the group’s success. “Our practice strives to stay on top of the ever changing rules and regulations in healthcare,” Dr. Most Popular Burke told the committee. “ICD-10 has been on the horizon for several years now. Our software vendor was ready for it. The PAHCOM affiliation afforded them the opportunity to join an ICD-10 Pilot Program.
