The Muskingum University Nursing Pin is awarded to those individuals who have met
the requirements for the BSN. These graduates include students from the traditional prelicensure track and the MAP post-licensure track in the Nursing program.
Significance: This professional nursing tradition originated in the 1800's after the
Crimean War as a recognition of the courage, caring, and recognition of the importance
of evidence in guiding practice. It was Florence Nightingale who track mortality and
morbidity rates related to battle wound infections. Hand washing and sanitation practices
changed health care practices dramatically. The ceremonial practice of pinning is a
remembrance of those roots. Professional nurses recognize their symbolism of their
professional pin as their foundation for practice and the University that provided that
foundation.
The following Traditional Nursing Students will be eligible to receive their pins:
Laken Adams
Traci Alt
Shecky Baptista
Michael Barber
Josh Brindley
Jacob Caslow
Kaitlin Chorey
