This very special tour will be hosted by Dr. Harold Dibble.
Dr. Dibble is a world renowned American Paleolithic archaeologist best
known for his theory of lithic reduction and his methodological
advancements in archaeological fieldwork in France, Egypt, and Morocco.
He is currently Professor of Anthropology at the University of Pennsylvania
and Curator-in-Charge of the European Section on the University of
Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology.
This tour will be guided by Adrian Mialet.
Mr. Mialet and Dr. Dibble have joined together to lead groups with
National Geographic. Mr. Mialet has studied both history and art history
at the University of Toulouse in France. He received his professional
training as a National Tour Guide in English and Spanish. Mr. Mialet has
found his passion in the richly ornamental prehistoric caves in the region
and has lead tours with National Geographic, Smithsonian Travel, and the
National History Museum of New York.

Day 2 Sunday October 9th
Departure for a full day tour with Adrian.
Enjoy a guided tour of the cave of Pair Non Pair. (16 persons/visit).
Discovered in 1881, the cave of Pair-non-Pair contains engravings (featuring
horses, ibexes, cervidae, mammoths) which rank among the most ancient
examples of art made by prehistoric man (between 33 000 and 26 000 years
old).
Continue to Saint Emilion for a lunch on your own.

Begin this afternoon with a guided tour of the National Museum of
Prehistory. The museum features unique archaeological collections
chiefly discovered at the most prestigious excavation sites in the Vézère
Valley. The museum houses some 18,000 pieces and a collection of six
million objects.
Enjoy the town of Les Eyzies for a lunch on your own. In and around the town of Les Eyzies-de-Tayac
are a series of prehistoric rock dwellings, the caves include some of the mostsignificant
archaeological finds of the Upper Paleolithic (from about 40,000 to10,000 years ago) and Middle
Paleolithic (200,000 to 40,000 years ago) periods; the Eyzies-de-Tayac caves are among a series of
decorated grottoes in the area that were collectively designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in
1979.
Enjoy a guided tour of Font de Gaume. (13 persons/visits)
Font de Gaume is a unique World Heritage UNESCO LISTED. First
Discovered in 1901 brought a complete revolution in the conception of
the Cro-Magnon’s abilities. The 400 000 year’s old figures hidden in the
darkness, display polychrome paintings perspective effects and many
others amazing graphic tricks. Miraculously preserved Font de Gaume
remains one of the last great original painting cave still open to the public
after the closer of Lascaux and Altamira.
End your day by the visit of the cave of Cap Blanc. More than 15,000 years ago, the prehistoric men
sculpted bold animal images into the limestones cliffs creating a monumental friez.

Day 4 Tuesday October 11th
Adrian will guide your during this full day for a great experience.
Discover the troglodytique village of La Madeleine. Carved beneath a cliff
overlooking the picturesque Vézère River, the prehistoric troglodyte village
and UNESCO World Heritage Site of La Madeleine offers unique insight into
the Magdalenian culture, which prevailed in southern Europe for over 60
centuries from 15,000 to 9000 B.C. This ancient settlement of approximately
20 dwellings once accommodated 100 residents at a time.
Isabelle and Nicolas wait for you in the site of Castel Merle for a special lunch and a practical
afternoon.
Experience a “prehistoric lunch” on site.
The prehistoric site is a complex of prehistoric stone shelters more than 300 feet long, excavated and
preserved by several generations of the Castanet family. After the visit, Nicolas will give you a
demonstration of flint knapping and fire making.
Now it is time to practice!
Discover the Vezere Valley and go for a guided tour of the most famous prehistoric cave in the world:
Lascaux II. It is a replica of the cave of Lascaux - the most well known Stone Age cave art site in
Europe, if not the world. The colors of the walls are absolutely gorgeous, deep red, rich ochre and
black being the dominant tints. The pictures are beautifully painted and show a sense of perspective
and movement..
Option: Private Guided tour of Lascaux II.You will be welcome and guided by M; Tauxe Denis. He
is a Dortor at Natural History Museum and specialist in Prehistory. He will introduce you to the
context, differences between all animals represented,…This visit is a private visit more longer that

Your guide will take you to the amazing and beautiful village of
Beynac, listed as one of the most beautiful of France. You will go up
to the medieval castle and enjoy then a guided tour in the village.
Village of Beynac, linked firmly to its past, as to the rock on which it is
built, is a magnificent village which has managed to retain all of its
medieval charm. Classed among the most beautiful villages in France,
the visitor must engage the paved and steep little lanes, taking the time-worn stone stairways to be
able to admire the unhindered view of the Dordogne valley. Once onhigh, climb again, the chateau is waiting to welcome you in a free time.
Enjoy a sail on the Dordogne’s valley on a gabare. You will have a
wonderful view on the medieval castles and typical villages of the
Périgord.
Further, let go to the ancient bastide of Domme. From its rocky peak
the village overlooks the Dordogne valley offering an exceptional
panoramic view. Enjoy a guided tour of the medieval city to know one

Guided tour of the cave of Bernifal. Grotte de Bernifal is a cave decorated with
over 100 engravings and paintings. It includes engravings of horses, bison,
mammoths and ibex as well as the enigmatic tectiform (roof shaped) drawings
seen in many other caves of the same period. It has changed very little in more
than twelve thousand years, and has not been vandalised, since the original
entrance was blocked with rubble when the last artists left

Bernifal : Access DIFFICULT
Parking next to road. You will have to walk 15minutes to get into the cave. No electric system inside. At some point in the
cave the access is slippery if you want to visit all the cave. Warm people that they can visit half of the cave if they don’t want
to cross this slippery path. There is no bookshop, no facilities, no café,…The shelter is in the middle of the forest.
Enjoy a lunch in a farm house and taste the local product. After lunch enjoy a little walk in the forest
to visit a private rock shelter not open to the public.
In the middle of the afternoon return to your hotel to relax.

Saturday October 15th

Guided tour of Cougnac.
The cave has many prehistoric paintings dated to the upper Paleolithic.
Depictions include deer, Megaloceros, the ibex, and mammoths as well as
various schematic human figures, interpreted as wounded men, virtually
identical to similar figures at Pech Merle.
In route Stop in Cahors for a guided tour and a lunch on your own.
Continue to Cahors for a guided in tour in little train. This unmissable tour
uncovers the story of the most emblematic monuments of the history and
heritage of Cahors. The remains of the amphitheatre and the Cathedral of
