International Summer School on «Basic values of Civil
International Summer School on «Basic values of Civil Society» Armenia, Lake Sevan, July 4-11, 2015 Armenian Alumni of German speaking countries and Faculty of Sociology of YSU in cooperation with four partner institutions from civil society sector organized International Summer School on «Basic values of Civil Society», which took place in Armenia, Lake Sevan, July 4-11, 2015. The Summer School was funded by the Federal Foreign Service of Federal Republic of Germany and organizationally supported by German Embassy in Armenia, and addressed current trends in development of Civil Society with accompanying problems and peculiarities, concerning civil rights and problems with human rights protection, civil and human rights education, culture of cooperation and integration. The school designed to meet the goals which support Eastern partnership initiative with its target issues, was focused on bridging young representatives of human and social sciences as well as NGO activists who are considered as future leaders, with experts actively involved in the development of local initiatives as well as in teaching innovative courses focused on development of civil society. Instructors representing leading academic and research centers in the EU, in Armenia, Ukraine and Georgia, delivered presentations, led discussions and mentored the summer school participants. Participants included young representatives of education, research and NGO sector from Armenia, Ukraine and Georgia. All participants received rooms and meal at the Blue Sevan resort, covered by organizers. The space to lead the summer school was selected in order to comfortably host students and teachers, and accommodate participants taking into consideration modern education trends, including technical equipment, interactive teaching, and visualization. Transportation to and from the place wasalsoprovided. Except classes, it included cultural program tour for participants and teachers to the nice areas of Haghartin and Goshavank Monasteries. Each class took 1 hour and addressed specific issue, concerning International Human Rights, Values and Intercultural Communication, Gender Issues, Universalism and Cultural Relativism, Media Literacy and Media Discourse on Civil Society issues, Leadership and its potential for further cooperation. The teaching was accompanied with individual and group work, as well as with consultations, and round-table discussions in the end of each session. According to the survey conducted among the students after the last session of the Summer School, they mostly enjoyed the topics, the manner of teaching, and the group work.
