We had a good starting conversation regarding the purpose of the President’s Roundtable. I am committed to formally developing a network of Corvette Clubs who share in our love of cruising, fellowship and car shows. Over the next year, I will continue to make the case that we must network more and support each other’s club events and activities. I hope to seek out new opportunities and venues which will market not just our club but will benefit our partners of Corvette Clubs too. We can and should do more in educating others about our love for the Chevrolet Corvette. As always, I want to thank all our B-TRIPLE-C members, spouses, immediate family friends and business partners who continue to support us. The Baltimore County Corvette Club also known as the B-TRIPLE-C, is an active club drawing members from various areas in the Baltimore County community and the surrounding areas in Maryland. Our membership consists of Corvette Enthusiasts of all ages, professions, and backgrounds. We enjoy participating in informal social outings as well as fellowshipping with other car clubs. We have traveled to shows all up and down the East Coast and have met many fellow Corvette owners & clubs along the way. We love to network, so please e-mail us at BTRIPLEC@msn.com or contact one of our officers. Presently, the majority of our members own newer model Corvettes from the years 1998 to 2008. The club has grown over the last few years with a core group as well as new members joining yearly. Currently, meetings are held the first Saturday of each month at Applebees located at 6700 Baltimore National Pike in Baltimore, Maryland (www.applebees.com). The Club's many activities include displays at major events to sponsoring our annual All Corvette Car & Truck Show and our weekly Meet & Greets. We enjoy road rallies, Sunday cruises to country sites, picnics, youth car washes, community parades, Local and National car shows, and of course, our annual Christmas party. We adopted a youth group call the N-Full Motion Marching Band and Dance troupe (www.nfullmotionmarchingband.com) from Randallstown, Maryland in which we help raise money for their band uniforms and their continued operation. In 2005, we joined the United Council of Corvette Clubs (www.unitedcouncil.com), a national organization of corvette clubs (UCCC) which covers the Eastern and Midwest areas of the United States. In 2007, we joined the National Council of Corvette Clubs (www.corvettenccc.org). The National Council of Corvette Clubs, Inc. (NCCC) was founded in the United States as an all volunteer, non-profit organization in 1959 by a small group of Corvette owners enthusiasts! The membership in NCCC is comprised of nearly 22,600 Members and is the largest non-profit, all volunteer Corvette organization in the United States! The Baltimore County Corvette Club seeks a Chevy Dealer as a corporate sponsor. All are cordially invited to join us for a meeting or outing anytime you find yourself in the Baltimore Metropolitan Area. Visit our website at www.BaltimoreCoCorvetteClub.com for events and more information. 4 The B-TRIPLE-C’s : In Memory of Scott Baron, Sr. , RIP! Gone but not Forgotten 5 Meet & Greet at Security Square Mall The Baltimore County Corvette Club will renew it’s Meet & Greet event on the 1st Saturday of every month at Security Square Mall (weather permitting). The Meet & Greet sessions continue to reinforce the values our club holds near and dear. So whatever kind of car you have, Corvette, Mustang, or Dodge, bring your chair, wash and fill up your car and come on out to "fellowship" with folks. We have been encouraged by the number of people who have "dropped in" to observe, discuss and photograph the growing number of Corvettes on exhibit each week. Make sure you tell a friend or fellow Vette owner. www.securitysquare.com The Presidents’ Roundtable 1st Come out and join the fellowship Baltimore County Corvette Club Corvette Friends of Frederick MD Flying Vs Corvette Club Generations Corvette Club Juz Crusin Corvette Club Modified Corvette Club Second 2 None Corvette Club Tidewater Corvette Club Top Flight Corvette Club The Corvette Gazette 6 Annual Meet & Greet Kickoff - April 3, 2010!!! 3rd 1st The Corvette Gazette 7 2011 Chevy Corvette Z06 Carbon Limited Edition DETROIT -- When the 2006 Corvette Z06 was introduced, it represented the closest connection to the Corvette race cars ever. The 2009 Corvette ZR1 closed the gap between racing and production even further. This year, Corvette continues its tradition of track-to-street technology transfer with the 2011 Corvette Z06 Carbon Limited Edition. “Designed to further incorporate technology developed through racing, the Corvette Z06 Carbon Limited Edition is a tribute to the 50th anniversary of Corvette’s first race in the 24 Hours of LeMans,” said Jim Campbell, Chevrolet General Manager. “With a limited production of 500 units, this car is a must-have for the true Corvette collector and driving enthusiast.” The Corvette Z06 Carbon Limited Edition is another example of the expanded Corvette line-up. Five years ago, customers had the choice of a Corvette coupe or convertible. With the addition of the Z06, Grand Sport coupe and convertible and ZR1, Corvette enthusiasts now have more choices than ever. “For track use, the Z06 Carbon is the best balanced Corvette yet. It combines the lightweight and naturally-aspirated Z06 engine with the road-holding and braking of the ZR1,” said Tadge Juechter, Corvette Chief Engineer. “For technical tracks like Laguna Seca, the Z06 Carbon could shave up to three seconds off the Z06 lap time.” This limited edition Z06 will boast Brembo carbon ceramic brakes with specific dark gray metallic calipers. These powerful brakes were first introduced on the ZR1. Black 20-spoke 19-inch front/20-inch rear wheels complement the car’s Michelin PS2 tires. The Corvette Z06 Carbon will be available in two colors: Inferno Orange and the all-new Supersonic Blue. Black headlamps and mirrors, a ZR1-style body color spoiler, body color door handles, carbon fiber raised hood, and black carbon fiber rockers and splitter enhance the Z06’s dynamic design and reduce mass and aerodynamic lift. For track events, customers can also install the Euro-styled racing numbers that come with each car. The Z06 Carbon’s ebony leather and suede interior is complemented by blue or orange seat stitching to match the exterior color chosen. Other features include a unique steering wheel emblem, sill plate and logoed headrest. The suede used on the steering wheel, shifter, seat inserts, armrests and doors add to the luxury of this limited edition Z06. An optional Z07 performance package that includes the mechanical upgrades introduced on the Z06 Carbon can be added to a regular 2011 Z06. This package also includes Competition Gray 20-spoke wheels and all the chassis and cooling upgrades. The CFZ Z06 carbon fiber package includes black carbon fiber rockers, splitter and roof panel with the full-width body color spoiler. It can also be purchased with or without the Z07 package on regular Z06 models. The 2011 Corvette Z06 Carbon Limited Edition, as well as the new Z07 and CFZ Z06 option packages will be available in late summer. The Corvette Gazette 8 Maryland to Pass Single License Plate Bill . . . . FAILED! Maryland House Again Refuses to Pass Single License Plate Bill By Valerie Wood The Maryland Senate unanimously passed the proposed Bill to change the State law to allow single license plates, once again the Maryland House of Representatives in Annapolis refused to pass the revision in the law, by a vote of 13-7, with 3 non-votes. The Bill (House Bill 1063) was presented to the Environmental Matters Committee, chaired by Maggie McIntosh and voted on March 11, 2010. If passed, Maryland would have joined 21 states, including Pennsylvania and West Virginia, in requiring only a rear license plate. Please realize this measure failed by only 9 votes!! Pennsylvania, along with about 20 other states, continues to require only a back plate. Manufacturing and distributing two plates for each vehicle would greatly increase production time and cost to taxpayers, while offering little to no benefit. There is no empirical data proving that two plates improve vehicle identification. In addition, having to build up double the inventory would greatly slow down plate replacement. Maintaining a single back plate requirement allows customers to continue to display a decorative plate on the front of their vehicles, if they so choose. This was particularly disappointing to those of us who have been actively working to reach our legislators and effect a change in the State’s law. Given the State’s economical situation, and the estimate that nearly $1.2 million would be saved by eliminating the need for a front license plate during the next 2 years alone, it is particularly disheartening for those of us who love our sports cars. The arguments against the change in law appear to be fairly lame, primarily centering on a supposition that it will hinder criminal investigations—something which has been shown to be an erroneous assumption. The House of Representatives For: P. Stull (Frederick) A. O’Donnell (Harford) A. Serafini (Washington) T. Shewell (Carroll) W. Norman ( Harford) R. Sossi ( Caroline & Cecil) M. Weir (Baltimore) members’ votes were as follows: Against: M. McIntosh (Chair, Baltimore City) J. Malone (Vice-Chair, Baltimore & Howard) R. Cane (Dorchester & Wicomico) E. Bobo (Howard) A. Healey (Prince George's) D. Neiman (Prince George's) S. Lafferty (Baltimore) D. Stein (Baltimore) C. Glenn (Baltimore City) T. Hucker (Montgomery) M. Holmes ( Prince George's) V. Clagett (Anne Arundel County) B. Frush (Anne Arundel & Prince George's) No Vote: P. Beidle (Anne Arundel County) A. Carr (Montgomery) S. Ali ( Montgomery) This issue can be brought up again during next year’s General Assembly. If your delegates are among those who voted against the measure, you can certainly let them know you are not pleased and it may very well have an effect the way you vote in the next election! Let them know you want them to reconsider this measurer and pass it the next time it comes up for a vote. We are considering a petition drive. Can you help? We need your assistance!! The Corvette Gazette 9 Congratulations & Welcome to the Married Club!! The B-TRIPLE-C would like to congratulate club members Reggie & Jacina and Dennis & Charlayne on their recent nuptials. The Corvette Gazette The Corvette Gazette The Corvette Gazette 16 Corvette Wave Rules by Dan Woomer, President & Founder of Lost Caravan Corvette Club The Corvette Wave is an integral part of the mystique and culture of the Corvette owner experience. Corvette owners who wave at fellow Corvette owners when they pass on the road, show a mark of recognition that you are among the elite group of intelligent people who are driving America's True Sports Car. And as a member of this elite group, you should be recognized for your poise and intelligence. So for those who don't know the five simple Corvette Wave rules, here they are: 1. There is no excuse for not waving at your fellow Corvette owner. Although most Corvette own- ers have the class and understanding to accept when their wave is not returned, not waving is a serious breach of proper Corvette etiquette. 2. Whoever sees the other Corvette first, starts the wave. There isn't any rule about who waves first. This is simple; if you see another Corvette, wave! 3. Rules 1 and 2 apply to both sexes. As far as who starts the wave, it doesn't make a difference if you are a man or women. Rules 1 and 2 apply. 4. Any type of wave is okay. Whether you shoot a big wave up through your open Vette top, out the window, or a quick salute with your hand on the steering wheel, any wave that can be seen by the other Corvette driver is okay. However, this does not include any style of jester that can be interpreted as obscene or insulting. Remember, Corvette owners are a class act; while someone might have been rude or stupid to you, try not to return the favor. (This is a tough rule not to break with all the stupid drivers who manage to get a driver's license.) 5. A late wave is better than no wave. If you suddenly realize that a Corvette driver is passing and waving at you, get a wave off as soon as possible. The other Corvette driver may see your wave in their rear view mirror and realize that you where just a little late in getting your wave going. Although missing the timing of your wave is a "goof," getting off a wave that the other Corvette driver has a chance to see can acceptably cover this slip-up. So you can see the underlying concept here is simple:Wave at your fellow Corvette owners, whoever they are, whenever you see them. This will show you are a person who understands the full measure and etiquette that comes with your proud ownership of a Corvette. The Corvette Gazette 17 Corvette News from around the Globe! LD SO On March 11th 2010, after 7 years of ownership, I sold DigitalCorvettes.com. Patrick Gramm, Creator and former owner of DigitalCorvettes.com” I love DigitalCorvettes.com, the community, and treasure the memories and friendships formed. But, with 50+ clients on the business end and the server/software/operational demands of a community of nearly 100,000 members, I am forever in the position of having little time for anything else -- including the Corvette hobby. Beyond selling DigitalCorvettes.com, I've consolidated other aspects of my professional life including selling my interests in several other businesses. I will now put my sole business and creative focus into opening our Gramm Productions / Phoenix office, and launching a whole new wave of exciting Corvette and motorsports film productions and expanding current shows like 'Vette Garage: The Series'. The new owner of DigitalCorvettes.com is VerticalScope. No, these are not the guys that own CF! But, they have certainly amassed an impressive collection of car-related forums. They are car enthusiasts and have the infrastructure and expertise needed to keep a large scale forum such as DigitalCorvettes.com running strong. The first retail 2011 Corvette Z06 Carbon Limited Edition will be auctioned to the highest bidder at Barrett-Jackson’s Collector Car Event in Palm Beach, Florida on April 3rd. The 2011 Corvette Z06 Carbon is limited to 500 units and will feature its own unique VIN making this a true collectible. The offering of the first retail production Z06 Carbon at Barrett-Jackson is another example of GM using the high-profile event to raise awareness for its sports and muscle car offerings. In 2008, the first retail production Corvette ZR1 sold for $1,000,000 and the first 2010 Camaro sold for $350,000. In January 2010, GM auctioned a limited edition Z06 427 for $200,000. In all three cases, the money received for the cars was donated to charity. The Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction runs from April 1 to April 3 in Palm Beach Florida. Check out SPEED TV for live coverage of the auction. Wil Cooksey, former manager of the world’s only Corvette assembly plant and a member of the Board of Directors of the National Corvette Museum, will receive the prestigious Lee Iacocca Award August 21, 2010 at the “Cool Cars, Cool Mountains” Car Show in Gunnison, Colorado. Only 25 car clubs in the United States are designated annually by Mr. Iacocca to select recipients for the award that bears his name. 2010 marks the third year he has chosen the Gunnison Car Club, host of the nation’s first carbon neutral car show. The Iacocca Award was created in 2006 by automobile industry legend and best selling author Lee Iacocca to honor, in his words, “some of the world's most committed classic-car collectors and their passion for maintaining an American tradition.” Even more importantly, the award raises funds for The Iacocca Foundation. That foundation, created by Mr. Iacocca and his daughters after his wife died from diabetes, supports research toward finding a cure for the disease. To date more than $26 million in research has been funded by the Foundation. Mike Callihan, president of the Gunnison Car Club, says the choice of Wil Cooksey for the Iacocca Award was a natural one. “Wil is simply an incredible individual. Whether in the car business, on the boards of non-profit community organizations or on the race track he never gives less than his all out best. It doesn’t hurt that’s he’s a car nut from head to toe, either.” The Corvette Gazette 18 Ultimate Corvette Apparel & More www.UltimateCorvetteApparel.com The Corvette Gazette 19 The Baltimore County Corvette Club The Mighty B-TRIPLE-C Post Office Box 203 Owings Mills, Maryland 21117-9998 Tel: 410-258-8638 FAX: 410-654-4939 E-mail: BTRIPLEC@msn.com www.BaltimoreCoCorvetteClub.com Website Developed and Maintained by: www.4whatpurpose.com Our Mission The Purpose of the Baltimore County Corvette Club is to promote interest in, and the operation of the Chevy Corvette.
