AIA Award Exhibition Opening Night, Photography: Warren Taylor
Pin-up was delighted to host the 2013 Victorian Architecture Awards Exhibition of
Entries throughout the month of June. The exhibition design – produced by
Monash Art, Design & Architecture (MADA) and led by Callum Morton and
Warren Taylor – referenced Pin-up’s warehouse stud-wall framing and focussed
on the internal volume of the space. The design created a strong language for the
display of entry panels, a series of films and a purpose-designed wallpaper that
wrapped the gallery walls.
Celebrating 240 projects that were submitted for the 2013 Australian Institute of
Architects’ Victorian Architecture Awards, the field of entries demonstrated the
diverse range of practitioners and projects undertaken in Victoria, a reminder of
the long and involved process, often unobserved, associated with delivering a
building or architectural intervention.

Fostering a direct exchange between architects, designers and industry,
Monash Art, Design & Architecture (MADA) host transmaterial - a research
symposium investigating material innovation in the constructed environment.
Questions surrounding materiality, materials and material technologies have
recently come under renewed attention. This focus is in part fuelled by an
increased ability and growing sophistication in designing material performance,
the challenges of the material world (made manifest by the ecological crisis) and
by global economic transformations such as the shift of manufacturing away
from the developed world. Within this context there are new opportunities for
dialogue.
transmaterial provides an interface between disciplines that enables this
dialogue and fosters an exchange of knowledge through, across and beyond
materials and materiality. The symposium seeks to connect global issues in
materials, technologies and their ramifications with local concerns in
manufacturing and making.
Sponsored by the Victorian Endowment for Science, Knowledge and Innovation
(VESKI), the symposium brings together international and national thinkers and
practitioners from the fields of architecture, engineering and material science.
The event will comprise of a series of progressive presentations by invited
speakers, which will be followed a chaired panel discussion.

Pin-up welcomes back FOTO @ Pin-up to the program in November 2013. This
ongoing series of photography exhibitions invites a range of local, national and
international practitioners to explore the theme of materiality in their work. The
second exhibition of The Material Series explores the inherent qualities of glass
and engages with practitioners across architecture, interiors, fashion, food and
documentary photography.
